NCDC Proposes Change in Higher Education Schedules to Encourage Part-Time Employment & Skills Development

Srinagar: In a forward-looking and innovative step, the National Child Development Council (NCDC) organized its Core Committee Meeting to deliberate upon an important proposal for educational reform that can reshape the landscape of higher education in India.

The main subject matter of deliberation was: “Changing the higher education class timings to 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM so that students above 18 years (post higher secondary) can pursue part-time jobs, skill development, or passion-based training in the second half of the day.”

The session began with Mohammad Rizwan introducing the topic, stating that education in India is compulsory only till age 14 or 10th grade. Post-secondary education (particularly undergraduate) does not provide students with sufficient flexibility to enhance financial independence or acquire hands-on experience.

This proposal seeks to: Enable students to work for part-time wages throughout the day, Provide them with practical exposure to occupational skills concerning their studies, Encourage self-sufficiency and financial expertise, Promote self-discovery and passion exploration through unfettered afternoons, and Enhance sleep hygiene and synchronize with the biological pace of students.

NCDC Master Trainer Baba Alexander said: “India’s largest strength is its youth. But we are not using or educating them properly. By adjusting the timing of classes and incorporating vocational work, students can gain practical skills alongside studying. That is necessary to create a future-proof workforce.”

He highlighted how this flexibility can: Asist in curbing brain drain, Augment GDP by engaging youth in the economy, Transform mindset of society towards dignity of labour, and Enable personalized career options in terms of interest and aptitude.

One of the NCDC members Radha while discussing about the topic has said that: “The majority of students take the career path laid down by their parents without knowing their interests. But later, when they go out for part-time jobs, they will know their strengths and gain confidence to pursue their own careers.”

She emphasized the importance of experiential learning so that students become more informed in choosing careers and handle actual problems.

Mohammad Rizwan of NCDC stated that: “This isn’t just about jobs. Students with artistic or athletic interests—such as dance, music, or sports—will at last get time to practice and develop them seriously.”

He emphasized the need to provide space for passion and creativity in conjunction with formal schooling.

NCDC member Anandhi said: “A lot of students from rural backgrounds fail to thrive at university because of language and cultural issues. Afternoon hours can be spent learning soft skills and language, enabling them to adjust quicker and develop.”

She also highlighted the mental well-being advantages of a balanced day and skill development opportunities for students from disadvantaged communities.

The session wrapped up with a compelling summary of all discussed perspectives, emphasizing: Financial independence enhances decision-making and self-discipline, Early work develops confidence and hardihood, Lower dropout levels, particularly among financially strapped young people, Improved utilization of biological and learning cycles (early morning concentration), Promotion of self-study, entrepreneurship, and creative exploration, and Improved parental awareness of alternative career options.

The NCDC, with complete consensus, decided to suggest this proposal to education departments and the Government of India for immediate approval.

Ganderbal, Sept 10 (KNO): The Food Safety Department has suspended the license and registration of three eateries, including two hotels and a dhaba in Kangan area of Ganderbal district after they failed mandatory food quality tests.

Incharge food inspector Fayaz Ahmad told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that samples were collected from several restaurants during routine checks.

“These samples were sent for laboratory testing, and after reports showed irregularities, the license of three establishments was suspended,” he said.

He said that legal proceedings will be initiated against the violators under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Authorities have appealed to the public to remain cautious and assured that regular inspections of hotels, restaurants, and dhabas will continue to ensure safe and hygienic food for consumers—(KNO)

CBSE Board Exams 2026: The board will commence the submission of examination forms for Class 10, 12 private students from today. Check details here.

The Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, will be commencing the examination form submission for private students of Classes 10 and 12 from Tuesday, September 9, 2025. The examinations will be conducted in February/March/April 2026 along with the Board Exams, the CBSE said.

Students who meet the eligibility requirements to appear in the exam as private candidates can submit their examination forms on the official website of the board at cbse.gov.in.

As per the official notification issued by the CBSE, only the following categories of students will be considered for the exam:

  1. Candidates of the session 2024-25 who have been declared ‘ESSENTIAL REPEAT in the 2025 examination result.
  2. Candidates of the session 2024-25 who have been placed ‘COMPARTMENT’ in the Main and Supplementary Examinations 2025.
  3. Candidates who have been declared ‘FAIL/ESSENTIAL REPEAT’ in 2020, 2021, 2022,2023,2024 & 2025.
  4. Candidates who have passed out in 2025 but wish to appear for improving their performance in one or more subjects.

Points to remember:

  1. The CBSE said that students can fill only one application form. They will not be allowed to apply again under any other category. Therefore, students need to select their category and other details carefully.
  2. Students will be examined only in the subjects and syllabus as prescribed for the year of examination. They must go through the eligibility and pass criteria as well as the current curriculum and scheme of studies available on the CBSE website carefully before filling the examination form.
  3. Students will be able to apply only for subjects that are auto-generated in the system.
  4. Students will be allotted new roll number by the Board for appearing in the examination in 2026. In other words, they will not be allowed to appear with the previous year’s roll number.
  5. Examination centre once allotted will be final and no request for a change of the centre will be considered. CBSE said that the examination centre will be allotted based on the city choice filled in the examination form by the student. Therefore, the city should be chosen very carefully.
  6. Students are required to provide the correct postal address.
  7. Students need to upload scanned jpg files of their photo and signature not exceeding 40 KB in size.
  8. Payment of fees for all activities are accepted only through netbanking/UPI/ Debit Card/Credit Card.

Srinagar, Sep 7, KNT: Paramedical students of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar have expressed deep anguish over what they termed as “injustice and negligence” by the authorities after being barred from appearing in their second-year regular examinations due to pending first-year backlogs, despite no supplementary exams having been conducted.

Students told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that they were informed just two days before the commencement of their examinations that they would not be allowed to sit in the second-year papers. They alleged that this sudden decision has created chaos and mental distress among hundreds of aspirants.

“Our first paper was scheduled on 2 September. After we raised our voices on social media, it was postponed with an assurance that the matter would be resolved soon. But till now, nothing concrete has been done. Every day, we are given false hopes that tomorrow the issue will be fixed,” the aggrieved students said.

They added that their next paper is scheduled for Monday, yet uncertainty continues. “This delay is playing with our careers and mental health. We are being punished for no fault of ours, while no supplementary exams were ever arranged by the authorities,” they said.

Srinagar, Sep 5 (JKNS): Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo on Friday voiced strong resentment against the administration for what she termed as mishandling of the Eid-e-Milad holiday observance in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a post on X, Itoo as per news agency JKNS wrote, “This is totally unjust that Eid-e-Milad, a sacred occasion for Muslims worldwide, is not observed as a holiday on the correct date in J&K. What does ‘subject to appearance of the moon’ mean if it is not followed? Despite repeated requests from the elected Government to shift the holiday, no action has been taken.”

She further accused the administration of “playing with the emotions of the people,” insisting that such matters should rest with the elected dispensation and not, in her words, with a “selected administration.”

Earlier, officials from the General Administration Department had confirmed that the holiday on account of Eid-e-Milad would be observed today. (JKNS)
