Major Weather Spell to Hit Jammu & Kashmir From May 29 to 31

Srinagar, May 29: People across Jammu & Kashmir are advised to prepare for a change in weather conditions, as the region is expected to witness intermittent scattered rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds this afternoon, particularly in isolated areas.

According to the latest forecasts, a more widespread and significant weather spell is set to affect the Union Territory starting from tomorrow evening (May 29) and will likely continue until May 31.

During this period, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated across most of the plains of Jammu & Kashmir, which may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and disruption in daily activities.

In the higher reaches, particularly over Zojila, Sonamarg, Drass, and Kargil, moderate snowfall with isolated heavy spells is likely. These conditions may impact travel and transportation through mountain passes, and tourists and residents in these areas are urged to exercise caution. [KNT]

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has released the Phase-V Notification for Class 10th Answer Script Photocopy 2025 for the Annual Regular Session. The notification is intended for students who have applied to obtain Xerox copies of their answer sheets.

According to the official notice, candidates listed in the notification are advised to collect the photocopies of their answer scripts from the Office of the Deputy/Assistant Secretary, Secrecy Unit-I, KD Block No. 03, New Campus, Bemina, Srinagar, on 28-05-2025.

Power Shutdown Alert: Grid Substation Mir Bazar & Transmission Line to Remain Shut on 28 May for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025 Preparations

The Office of the Executive Engineer, System & Operation Division Bemina, Srinagar, has issued an official notification regarding the scheduled power shutdown for the 475 MVA, 220/132 kV Grid Sub Station at Mir Bazar and the 220 kV Transmission Line from Wanpoh to Mir Bazar (Ckt-1st & Ckt-2nd). The shutdown is being carried out for the preparation and readiness of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025.

  • Time: 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM
  • Outage Load: 350 MW

The Power Controller Kashmir has requested the general public and concerned authorities to note the shutdown and cooperate accordingly. Publicity through electronic and print media has also been advised to inform residents about the power interruption.

The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination was successfully conducted on May 25 (Sunday) in two shifts, each lasting two hours. Candidates appeared for two papers – General Studies (GS) Paper 1 and General Studies (GS) Paper 2, both of which are objective-type in nature. These papers are designed to test candidates on a wide range of topics, from current affairs and history to comprehension and logical reasoning. The preliminary stage serves as a screening test for the main examination and plays a critical role in shortlisting candidates for the next round. Notably, negative marking is applicable for incorrect responses in the objective-type questions, which means candidates must attempt questions carefully.

This year, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) aims to fill approximately 979 vacancies in various prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and others through the Civil Services Examination 2025. The examination process is conducted in two major stages: the Preliminary and the Mains. After clearing the prelims, candidates must appear for the Mains examination, which consists of a set of descriptive papers, followed by a final round of interview or personality test. Each stage holds its own significance, and the final merit list is prepared based on performance in the Mains and Interview rounds.

To access the question papers, candidates need to visit upsc.gov.in, click on the “Examinations” tab, and open the “Active Examinations” section. Then, they must navigate to the “Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025” page and scroll down to find the question paper links for GS Paper 1 and GS Paper 2 in the second table. By downloading these PDFs, candidates can analyze the questions, assess the paper’s difficulty level, and use them for future preparation. A Parliamentary panel has also suggested that UPSC should release the answer key immediately after the examination to ensure greater transparency in the evaluation process.

The prelims exam was conducted using two question papers – General Studies (GS) paper 1 and General Studies (GS) paper 2.
