PM Modi to flag off train to Kashmir on February 17

Srinagar, Feb 11 (KNO): Marking a significant milestone in the completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate train to Kashmir on February 17.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the Prime Minister will flag off the specially designed Vande Bharat Express from the Jammu division.

“After years of dedication, engineering brilliance, and relentless efforts, the long-cherished dream of Kashmir’s rail connectivity has finally been realized. The Vande Bharat Express will soon run on this historic route,” the official said.

As part of the USBRL project, Indian Railways has conducted multiple successful trial runs, traversing some of the nation’s most iconic bridges.

The Anji Khad Bridge, with its 331-meter-high pylon, stands as a remarkable feat of engineering, while the Chenab Bridge, at 359 meters, holds the distinction of being the world’s highest railway bridge—surpassing even the Eiffel Tower. These bridges not only enhance regional connectivity but also showcase India’s technological and infrastructural prowess.

“The train has been specially designed to operate efficiently in Jammu and Kashmir’s harsh winter conditions on the Katra-Srinagar rail route,” the official said, adding, “It features advanced climate-resistant technologies, including heating systems that prevent water and bio-toilet tanks from freezing.”

Additionally, he said that the air-brake system is optimized for smooth operations even in sub-zero temperatures.

“The Vande Bharat Express also includes embedded heating elements in the windshield to automatically defrost the driver’s front lookout glass, ensuring clear visibility in extreme winter conditions,” the official said, adding, “Apart from these specialized adaptations, the train offers all standard Vande Bharat amenities, such as fully air-conditioned coaches, automatic plug doors, mobile charging sockets, and more.”—(KNO)

Schools in Kashmir to Reopen as per Schedule: Director of Education

Srinagar: The government does not currently plan to modify the winter break schedule for schools in Kashmir, and the previously issued order in this regard would remain in effect, even if the weather continues to improve, Director School Education GN Itoo said Saturday.

Parents, according to the Director, only have to pay half of the transport charges for winter months, and any infraction from the schools’ end would attract severe consequences.

With regard to the parents being continuously forced to pay capitation fee and other miscellaneous charges by the schools, Itoo said the issue will be looked at and addressed in a time bound manner by the committee headed by the Joint Director, School Education.

“The government does not plan to alter winter break schedule for the schools in Kashmir. Since an order has already been issued in this direction, there will be no revision in schedule even if the weather improves further,” Director School Education told media on the sidelines of a felicitation function of 122 newly promoted principals at Kothibagh Higher Secondary School here.

About the shortage of government supplied textbooks, Itoo claimed that 60 percent of free textbooks have already been distributed to government schools in Kashmir while the department would ensure 100 percent distribution before schools reopen after winter vacation.

“Since the decision to restore Nov-Dec academic session upto 9th standard was taken on a short notice. JKBOSE did not get enough time for the ground work but as of now at least 60 percent of free textbooks have been distributed to the government schools and the distribution process is going on,” he added.

In response to a question on how the preparations for the board exams are progressing, the Director said everything is in order and that the exams would be conducted transparently.

“The board exams would be conducted transparently, according to a directive made by the minister in a meeting that was attended by the chairman BOSE, the administrative secretary, and all CEOs recently.  To promote greater coordination and better arrangements for mountainous regions, the minister in charge is presiding over another meeting that includes representatives from BOSE, DSEK, all SSPs, and DCs,” he added

NEET UG 2025: NTA adds new rule for tie-breaking, check details here

NTA said if a tie remains unresolved after the existing method, an independent expert committee will provide guidance and resolve it through a “random process”.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has added a new rule to break ties in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG 2025) scores if the existing ones are not enough to arrive at a conclusion

In the NEET UG information bulletin, NTA said if a tie between candidates’ marks remains unresolved after the existing seven-point method, an independent expert committee will provide guidance and resolve it through a “random process”.

NEET UG 2025 tie-breaking rules

In a situation when two or more candidates obtain equal marks/percentile scores in the NEET UG 2025, the inter-se-merit will be determined as follows:

  1. The candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Biology (Botany & Zoology) will be given preference in the All India Rank (AIR) list, followed by
  2. The candidate who obtains higher marks/percentile score in Chemistry, followed by
  3. The candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in Physics followed by
  4. The candidate with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects in the test, followed by
  5. The candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany & Zoology), followed by
  6. The candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Chemistry, followed by
  7. The candidate with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics.

If these seven criteria are exhausted and the tie still persists, NTA will resolve them through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee.

However, this is not the only change to NEET UG 2025. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to return to the pre-COVID pattern from 2025 onwards.

This means two other significant changes to the exam compared to last year: the number of questions and the time allotted to attempt the test will be reduced.

Optional questions, introduced temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, will no longer be applicable.

Aspirants Frustrated Over Silence on JKSSB Constable Exam Investigation

Aspirants Fume Over Lack of Update on JKSSB Constable Exam Inquiry

Srinagar, Feb 10, KDC: Aspirants for the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) Constable exams are growing increasingly frustrated as the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has failed to provide an update on the inquiry into alleged discrepancies in the recently declared results.

Despite assurances from the board to investigate the matter, no progress or communication has been shared with the candidates, leaving them in a state of uncertainty.

The controversy erupted after the JKSSB announced the results for the JKP Constable Telecommunication and Photography exams. Candidates raised alarms, alleging that top scorers in these exams had previously scored poorly in the simpler JKP Executive/Armed/SDRF paper. Many questioned how candidates who had performed poorly in the earlier exam could suddenly excel in the more technical and challenging Telecommunication and Photography papers.

In response to the outcry, the JKSSB initiated an inquiry, with Chairperson Indu Kanwal Chib stating that the board would thoroughly examine the allegations within a specific timeframe. However, aspirants while talking to  Kashmir Dot Com said that no updates have been provided since then, leaving them feeling increasingly disheartened and confused.

Efforts to reach Chairperson Indu Kanwal Chib for comment were unsuccessful, as repeated calls went unanswered. Candidates expressed their growing dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency and communication from the JKSSB.

“We’re in the dark. It feels like our concerns are being ignored. We’ve been waiting for weeks with no response. How can we trust the system if it doesn’t provide clarity?” a delegation of aspirants said.

Candidates have urged  the JKSSB to act swiftly, claiming that the delay and lack of communication are only fueling their frustration and distrust in the system.

“We’ve invested our time and energy into this process, and now we’re left with nothing but uncertainty,” said an aspirant, wishing not to be named. “If our concerns aren’t addressed soon, the faith in the system will be shattered for good.”

This recruitment drive, which was the first major one since 2019, included exams held on December 1, 8, and 22, 2024, to fill 4,002 vacancies in various departments. While the exams included an aptitude test and technical questions, the integrity of the results is now under intense scrutiny. (KDC)
