Fresh WD may trigger snowfall over J&K during next 48 hours: MeT

Srinagar, Jan 14: A weak Western Disturbance (WD) is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 hours, potentially bringing light snowfall to the higher reaches, officials said.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar, this feeble WD is likely to impact the region between January 15 and 16, with light snowfall expected in areas such as the picturesque Sonamarg and its surrounding regions.

“The weather is expected to remain predominantly dry across the region until January 20,” the MeT office stated.

There is a possibility of another wet spell January 20-21.

Meanwhile, there was a slight improvement in night temperature amid overcast sky, but recorded below freezing point triggering severe cold conditions across the Kashmir valley on Wednesday.

Night temperature in Srinagar recorded during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday at a low of -4.2°C against the -5.1°C recorded the previous day, the MeT office said adding this was 2.2°C below the average for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during the period.

Despite a marginal improvement in minimum temperature, Pahalgam remained the coldest place in Kashmir valley with a low of -7.8°C on Wednesday against the -8.4°C on the previous night.

This was 1.9°C below normal for the tourist spot of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the period.

Gulmarg also witnessed an improvement by a few notches and recorded at -6.2°C against the -6.5°C a day ago and this was, however, 1.6°C above normal for the ski resort of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district for the day.

Kupwara recorded a low of -4.7°C against the -5.5°C the previous night and this was 2.2°C below normal for the frontier Kashmir district in north Kashmir during this period of the season.

The picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir stayed at -3.4°C for the second consecutive day on Wednesday and it was a few notches below the average for the place during the period.

Qazigund on Srinagar Jammu national highway recorded a low -5.6°C against the -6.4°C and it was 2.6°C below normal for the gateway to Kashmir during the period, the MeT office said.–(UNI)

UGC-NET January 15 Exam Postponed

NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the postponement of the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) December 2024 exam, which was originally scheduled for 15 January.

The decision comes in light of the Pongal, Makar Sankranti, and other festivals taking place on that date.

In an official statement, Rajesh Kumar, Director (Exams) of the NTA, explained, “The NTA has received representations to postpone the UGC-NET December 2024 examination on account of Pongal and Makar Sankranti and other festivals on 15 January 2025. In the interest of the aspirants, the NTA had decided to postpone the UGC-NET December 2024 exam scheduled on 15 January only. The new date of the exam will be announced later.”

The UGC-NET December 2024 exam, which is being conducted for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor appointments, and Ph.D. admissions, was initially scheduled from 3 January to 16 January. The exams, being held in the Computer Based Test (CBT) format, cover 85 subjects.

CUET UG 2025 Exam Dates Updates

NTA will soon declare the CUET exam dates 2025 at nta.ac.in. It is expected that NTA will conduct CUET UG Exams 2025 in May/June 2025. The mode of examination will be Computer Based Test mode. The CUET exam date and slot timings will be determined based on the programme or paper opted for by candidates. Last year, over 13 lakh applicants registered for the CUET exam, and this number is expected to increase this year.

CUET UG 2025 Exam Pattern Updates

As per the revised CUET UG Exam Pattern, the CUET exam will be conducted in CBT mode and the format of the exam will be multiple-choice questions. CUET UG Syllabus 2025 Updates

The National Testing Agency will release the CUET 2025 Syllabus along with the information brochure in PDF form. The CUET UG Syllabus is expected to remain the same as the previous year’s syllabus. However, any changes made in the syllabus will be updated here. Candidates are advised to go through the CUET UG Syllabus of their selected subject to prepare for the CUET UG exam. The number of subjects for CUET UG has been reduced to 37 after discontinuing 20 foreign languages and six domain subjects.

J&K BOPEE Invites Applications for Medical and Paramedical Courses Admissions 2024

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (J&K BOPEE) has issued a series of important notifications regarding admissions to medical and paramedical courses for the 2024 academic session. These updates cover admissions to MD/MS, DNB, BPT, BUMS, and other postgraduate medical courses in government and private colleges across the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu & Kashmir.

1. Management and NRI Seats at ASCOMS, Jammu

A notification [NEET-PG-NN 002 Dt.10-01-2025] invites candidates to apply for MD/MS management seats under the Hindu Minority (HM) and Non-Resident Indian (NRI) quotas at Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS), Jammu. The admissions will be conducted through joint counseling by J&K BOPEE after lowering the NEET PG merit criteria.

2. NEET PG MD/MS/PGD Courses

Offline applications are invited for MD/MS/PG Diploma courses in government and private medical institutions in J&K. This comes following a reduction in the NEET PG merit threshold. Candidates can apply from January 10, 2025, to January 12, 2025. [Notification NEET-PG-NN 001 Dt.09-01-2025]

3. Provisional Selection for DNB Courses

The provisional selection list for DNB (Post MBBS, Post Diploma, and Post MBBS Diploma) courses 2024 has been released. These selections were made after the 2nd Mop-Up round of physical counseling held for seats in government and private colleges of J&K. [Notification DNB-NN-201 Dt.30-12-2024]

4. BPT and BUMS Courses Admissions

J&K BOPEE has announced the provisional selection list for leftover seats in Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) and Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) courses. 5. Second/Mop-Up Round for DNB Courses

The board conducted a second and mop-up round of physical counseling for DNB admissions (Post MBBS, Post Diploma, and Post MBBS Diploma) on December 26, 2024, to fill vacant seats in government medical colleges of the UT. [Notification DNB-NN-199 Dt.26-12-2024]

6. Leftover Seats for BPT and BUMS
