Prompt action for forcing parents to purchase non-recommended textbooks: Edu Minister

Srinagar, Jan 04 (KNO): Following the hue and cry regarding purchase of textbooks other than those prescribed by JKBOSE, the Minister of Education, Sakina Itoo Saturday said that the government will take prompt action against the private schools who are found guilty.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the minister said, “The complaint of the parents will have a prompt action. If any school is found guilty, we will make sure that action is taken on the very next day.”

“We have already constituted a zonal and district level Committee who will monitor the violations done by the private schools,” she said.

About the selling of textbooks by private schools within the institute, the education minister a day before haf said that the government has constituted a district and zonal level committee. “They have been asked to monitor the violation so that appropriate action is taken against those private schools.”

In the meantime, sources informed KNO that the government is mulling to cancel the recognition of those private schools immediately after the complaint if found guilty.

“If any private school is found guilty in sale and pursue of non-recommended textbooks will face the de-recognition very next day,” sources said.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) officially commenced the application process for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-PG) 2025 on January 2, providing a gateway to postgraduate programmes in central universities and other participating institutions. Interested candidates can register on the official NTA website by 1 February 2025.

Major Changes in CUET PG 2025

This year, the NTA has introduced significant updates in the examination pattern, fees, and exam centres:

Reduced Exam Duration

The exam duration has been further reduced to 1.5 hours (90 minutes), compared to 1 hour 45 minutes (105 minutes) last year and 2 hours (120 minutes) previously. Despite the shorter duration, the number of questions remains the same at 75.

Changes in Exam Centres

Additionally, the number of domestic exam cities has decreased from 300 to 285, but new international centers have been added in Abu Dhabi (UAE), Oslo (Norway), and Frankfurt/Berlin (Germany). Candidates now have the option to select four preferred cities for the exam instead of two.

Increased Application Fee

The application fee has also been revised. For candidates applying within India, the fee has increased by ₹200 for up to two test papers, with an additional ₹100 for each extra paper. International applicants face a fee hike of ₹1,000 for up to two test papers and ₹1,500 for any additional papers.

These changes aim to streamline the process while accommodating a broader range of candidates globally.

The Central University of Kashmir, Ganderbal, J&K, has invited online applications for admission to its Post-Graduate (PG) programmes for the academic year 2025. The admissions will be conducted through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET PG) 2025, managed by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Activity Schedule for CUET (PG)-2025:

  • Online Application Submission: 2nd January to 1st February 2025 (until 11:50 PM)
  • Last Date for Fee Payment: 2nd February 2025 (until 11:50 PM)
  • Correction Window for Applications: 3rd February to 5th February 2025 (until 11:50 PM)
  • Announcement of Examination City: First week of March 2025
  • Admit Card Download: Four days before the exam
  • Date of Examination: Between 13th March and 31st March 2025
  • Display of Recorded Responses and Answer Keys: To be announced
  • Declaration of Results: To be announced

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the examinations for both 10th and 12th standard will commence from Feb-15.

JKBOSE further said that the exams of 10th and 12th standard in soft zones will culminate on March-17 and March-19 respectively—(KNO)

JKSSB Fresh Exam Calendar 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has released an advance notice regarding the OMR-based written examination for recruitment to various posts. Candidates are informed that the tentative schedule for the examinations is outlined in Annexure “A”, attached to the official notice.

  1. Tentative Schedule:
    The examination dates are tentative and subject to change. The final dates, along with details for downloading admit cards, will be announced in due course.
  2. Representation for Exam Date Clashes:
    • Candidates who have applied for multiple posts and encounter a clash in examination dates are advised to notify the Board.
    • Such representations must be submitted within 03 working days from the issuance of this notice.
    • The Board will consider these representations to make adjustments, if feasible.
  3. Syllabus:
    • The syllabus for all posts is annexed to the notice as Annexures “A” to “BG”.
    • Candidates are advised to refer to these annexures for detailed preparation guidelines.
