Thousands gather for Army recruitment rally in Baramulla

Srinagar, Nov 11: Baramulla town witnessed a huge response this morning as thousands of young candidates assembled for the Army recruitment rally organized by the 161 Infantry Battalion Territorial Army (Home & Hearth) Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI).

News agency KINS reported that the recruitment drive, which began at 6:00 AM at Ganthmulla, will continue until November 17, 2024, screening aspirants from various districts for different soldier roles within the Territorial Army.

“From early this morning, candidates gathered here to try their luck at the Army recruitment drive. I even observed that thousands of candidates began arriving as early as 4 a.m., forming long queues for the recruitment,” one of the officials told KINS.

Officials said that this rally provides a structured opportunity for eligible candidates from designated areas, including Baramulla, Kupwara, Ganderbal, Budgam, and Bandipora, to undergo document verification, physical screening, and medical examinations.

The recruitment schedule is organized by the Army, with Baramulla’s candidates being screened on November 11-12, Ganderbal and Budgam on 13 and Kupwara and Bandipora on November 14.

The positions available include roles such as Soldier General Duty, Clerk, Chef, and several specialized trades like Artisan Woodworker and Equipment Repairer. Additionally, two reserved days on November 16 and 17 will allow for the completion of pending medical exams.

The Territorial Army has emphasized that certain roles, including clerks and tradesmen, are open only to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.–(KINS)

According to an official notification issued by Deputy Registrar Recruitement Kashmir University reads, Due to administrative issues, it is hereby informed to all the concerned candidates that the interviews which were scheduled from 11 to 14th November, 2024 for the posts of Assistant Professor advertised vide Notice No. 13 of 2023 dated 19-12-2023 have been postponed till further notification, it reads.

Kashmir higher reaches to receive snow during next 24 hours: MeT

Srinagar, Nov 10: The higher reaches of Kashmir Valley are likely to experience rain and snowfall during the next 24 hours, officials said.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Sunday predicted light rain and snowfall over the higher reaches of Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours, officials said.

The MeT office said the weather will generally remain cloudy on Sunday, and there is a possibility of light rain and snow over the higher reaches and over the north and a few places in central Kashmir during the next 24 hours.

It said the weather will generally remain dry from November 12 to 14.

The possibility of another fresh spell of light rain and now over the higher reaches and at the scattered places of the Kashmir valley from November 15 to 16.

Kashmir weather independent observer Faizan Arif said a fresh weak Western disturbance (WD) is set to impact Jammu and Kashmir from Sunday night.

“Under its influence, light rain and snow is expected in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir and likely to continue till the early morning of November 12,” he said, adding “the impact of the WD will be mostly seen over the higher reaches of North Kashmir, Pir Panjal Range, and higher reaches of Bandipora and Ganderbal districts.”.

Arif said another WD, but weaker, is going to impact between November 14 and 16 and may cause light snowfall over a few higher reaches of Kashmir Valley.

The daytime temperatures are expected to fall by 2- 6°C; besides, there is a possibility of a significant dip in the nighttime temperatures from November 17 onwards, he said.

Kashmir is witnessing a long dry spell that led to the record low water level in the main river Jhelum and other tributaries of the valley.

Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake and other parts of the valley are engulfed with mist and shallow fog amid cold weather conditions, forcing tourists and locals to wear warm clothes.

The minimum temperature recorded during the intervening nights of Saturday and Sunday in Srinagar was 3.6°C, and it was 1.7°C above normal for the summer capital during this period of season.

The maximum day temperature was recorded in Srinagar on Saturday at 21.6°C, and it was 4.3°C above normal, the MeT office said.–(UNI)
