All regional parties of J&K should unite for statehood restoration: Engineer Rashid

Says no new government should be formed until statehood is restored

Srinagar, Oct 7 (KB): The member of Parliament (MP) and former MLA, Er Rasheed, on Monday said all regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir should unite and demand the restoration of statehood.

He said whoever secures a majority in the upcoming elections should prioritize ‘unity and collectively push’ the central government for statehood restoration.

“I suggest that all regional parties of Jammu and Kashmir, including Congress, National Conference, PDP, Peoples Conference, and others, unite on this front,” he told the media while addressing a press conference here in Srinagar, as per the news agency Kashmir Bulletin (KB).

He added, “Until statehood is restored, no new government should be formed.”

Meanwhile, Er Rasheed’s statement comes at a time when political discussions about statehood are intensifying across the region. Moreover, his appeal has sparked conversations in political circles about the future of the region’s governance. —(KB)

Srinagar, 7 Oct (KB): National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on monday said that NC-Cong alliance will accept PDP and all willing other parties support for government formation.

Farooq Abdullah’s statement comes after PDP’s senior leader Naeem Akhtar told this correspondent that they are ready to extend Support to the NC-Cong alliance.

Farooq Abdullah while talking to reporters in Srinagar as per news agency Kashmir Bulletin said,I congratulate them (PDP) with heart that she (Mehbooba Mufti) also wants to take Jammu and Kashmir out of these difficulties.

“I believe that the more we work together, the faster we can accomplish things. I don’t think we will tell anyone that we won’t accept their support. Rather… I will wholeheartedly accept it, and I want all the good people to come forward so that we can help this state come out of this crisis. That is very important,” Farooq said.

It is important to mention that earlier PDP’s senior leader Naeem Akhtar told KB that they are ready to support the NC-Cong alliance, “Yes, we are ready to support the alliance, any secular arrangement that includes Congress, as we are part of the INDIA alliance with them,”Naeem told KB earlier. No changes in Sarpanch eligibility criteria: RDD & PR refutes social media post

Srinagar, Oct 7 (KB): The Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj, Jammu & Kashmir, has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media regarding new qualifications for Sarpanch candidates in the Union Territory.

A viral social media post alleged that the J&K government had issued a notification under “J&K Panchayati Raj Act, 1989 under Section 6, 2022,” introducing new eligibility criteria for those aspiring to become Sarpanches. The post claimed that candidates would need to be permanent residents of J&K, be at least 25 years old, and have a minimum educational qualification of 12th pass, among other requirements.

However, the Department has categorically denied these claims, terming the news entirely false and fabricated.

In response, the Department has emphasized that no new notification has been issued and that the current eligibility criteria remain as they have been under the J&K Panchayati Raj Act of 1989.

The RDD has also clarified that any changes or amendments to this Act would be announced through official channels, not through unverified social media posts.

The RDD has cautioned social media platform users against spreading fake news stories related to changes in local governance structures or election processes. (KB)

IGNOU extends last date for admission to October 15

Srinagar, 7 Oct (KB): Keeping in view of the requests from the students across the country, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has further extended the last date for admission to its various programmes for the ongoing academic session to October 15, 2024 in order to accommodate potential learners who were unable to complete their admission formalities within the initially announced timeline.

In a statement issued here to news agency Kashmir Bulletin reads, Prospective students who wish to enroll for the ongoing academic session are encouraged to take advantage of this extended deadline. This additional time offers an opportunity for those who may have faced challenges or delays in completing their applications earlier.

The University offers approximately 300 Under Graduate and Master Degree Programs under ODL mode of education and 50 online programs. E-prospectus is available on IGNOU website for more information, it reads.

Regional Director, Dr. A.H. Rizvi emphasized the university’s commitment to providing accessible and flexible education opportunities to learners across the Kashmir Division including the UT of Ladakh.

It further reads, Dr. Rizvi, said that this is the last opportunity for July 2024 admissions as the admission to all the academic programmes offered in Open Distance Learning or Online Learning mode for the July 2024 admission has been extended further till 15th October 2024 except for Semester based and Certificate programmes.

The bank is planning to hire approximately 8,000 to 10,000 employees, including general banking staff and technology experts. As of March 2024, the bank had a total of 232,296 employees, with 110,116 officers working at the end of the last financial year. When asked about capacity building, CS Shetty mentioned that the bank continuously retains and upgrades existing employees to meet the evolving needs of the customers.
SBI plans to open 600 new branches across India during this financial year for network expansion. As of March 2024, the bank currently operates 22,542 branches nationwide. Setty revealed that the branch expansion strategy focuses on emerging areas, particularly residential colonies that are currently underserved. Setty stated, “We aim to add around 600 branches this year.”

The eligibility of candidates has been divided into four categories-

Land loser candidates: These candidates are those whose land has been acquired for a KRCL project. The spouse (wife/husband), son, daughter, grandson, and granddaughter of land losers are also eligible. These candidates will be given the first preference in the selection process.
