Eid-ul-Adha: SMC to clean places of worship, collect animal hides, offal

Srinagar, Jun 26 (KNO): Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha festivities, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to carry out cleanliness around all major masjids and shrines in the city. It also warned of strict action against those throwing hides and offal of sacrificial animals on the roadside.

A senior official at SMC told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that they have directed all the concerned officials to carry out cleanliness around all major places of worship in Srinagar. He said the corporation has also made arrangements for the collection of hides and offal of sacrificial animals.

“Teams have been constituted for the collection of hides and offal of sacrificial animals. However, if anyone is found throwing them on the roadside or drains, will be dealt with as per municipal laws,” he said.

The places identified for the Eid prayers will be cleaned, and for that, all elaborate arrangements have been put in place, the official said.

Earlier, people used to donate the hides of sacrificial animals to masjids, local committees, religious seminaries, and orphanages. But owing to the decline in the market value of hides in the past few years, and with no buyers around, many people started throwing hides and offal on roadsides, causing inconvenience and clogging of drains in many city parts—(KNO)
