Rain brings relief to farmers as prolonged dry spell ends

Farmers now preparing for high-density apple-picking process

Srinagar, Aug 15 (KNO): After enduring a prolonged dry spell and intense heat, farmers across Kashmir are finally breathing a sigh of relief as much-needed rainfall has arrived in the region. The showers, which began on Thursday, have brought renewed hope to farmers, especially those in the agriculture and horticulture sectors.

For nearly three months, Kashmir had been gripped by unusually dry conditions, which raised concerns among farmers about the impact on their crops. However, the rainfall has rejuvenated their spirits and brought optimism for a better yield.

Mohammad Saleem, a farmer of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) expressed his relief, saying that the prolonged heatwave and dry spell had led to the outbreak of various diseases in orchards and paddy fields.

He said the rain would help in combating issues like Alternaria and spider mites, which had plagued their crops. “This rain will enhance the shine of the produce, as well as its size and quality,” Saleem added.

Similarly, Sameer Ahmad, another farmer, said the rainfall is crucial for both agriculture and horticulture, including the saffron crop. “The lack of rainfall had raised concerns about the quality and yield of the apple crop, with many growers fearing significant losses. However, the recent showers have rekindled hope among the farming community,” he said.

Growers also said that the timely rain would benefit high-density apple orchards, which are now expected to enter the harvesting phase. “These modern orchards, known for producing higher yields of premium quality apples, are now poised to begin the harvesting season in full swing,” they said.

The rain has not only replenished soil moisture levels but has also ensured that the apples will grow to their optimal size and quality, promising good returns for the growers.

Farmers are now preparing for the high-density apple-picking process, which is expected to commence in the next two to three days. The recent rainfall is seen as a blessing, as it has revived hopes for a successful season and alleviated the stress caused by the prolonged dry spell.

Experts have echoed the sentiments of the farmers. “This spell of rain is crucial for the farming community in Kashmir. With the high-density apple-picking season set to begin, growers are looking forward to a productive and profitable period ahead,” they said—(KNO)

UGC NET June 2024 Examination Rescheduled, check new date

0

The original UGC NET exam, scheduled for August 26, has been rescheduled to August 27

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has updated the schedule for the UGC NET June 2024 examination, with a significant change affecting the date of one of the exam sessions. Originally planned for August 26, 2024, the exam will now be held on August 27, 2024. This adjustment has been made due to the celebration of Shri Krishna Janmashtami on August 26, which is a significant occasion in India.

The UGC NET June 2024 examination will span from August 21 to September 4, 2024. It will cover 83 subjects and will be administered in a computer-based test format across various cities in India. Despite the shift in the date for August 26, the overall schedule for the examination remains unchanged, as confirmed in the latest public notice from NTA.

Candidates are encouraged to regularly visit the official NTA website at nta.ac.in to stay informed about any further updates or changes. The website also provides the latest notification regarding the intimation of exam city centres, which has already been made available. This intimation slip, released on August 12, 2024, is intended to give candidates advance notice of the city where their examination centre will be located.

It is important to note that this intimation slip is not the admit card. The admit card, which will be issued separately, will include detailed instructions and additional information necessary for the exam day. The intimation slip merely serves as a preliminary notification to help candidates plan their travel and other logistics ahead of the exam.

The UGC NET June 2024 exam was initially scheduled for June but was postponed due to reports of malpractice, which necessitated a rescheduling. Candidates should continue to check the NTA website for updates and ensure they are prepared with the correct examination details and documentation.

PM Modi Promises 75,000 Additional Medical Seats Over the Next 5 Years

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced today that the Indian government plans to create 75,000 new medical seats over the next five years.

This decision, part of a broader effort to expand the nation’s healthcare infrastructure, was revealed during his address to the nation on the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day.

In his speech, PM Modi highlighted the government’s accomplishments over the last decade, particularly in the healthcare sector. “In the last 10 years, we have ensured that there are nearly 1 lakh medical seats. Nearly 25,000 youngsters go abroad for medical education, and they are having to go to such places that it astonishes me,” he stated.

Recognising the growing demand for medical education within the country, he added, “Due to this, we have decided that in the next five years, we will create 75,000 new medical seats.”

INCREASING HOSPITALS AND MEDICAL SEATS

PM Modi emphasised the government’s commitment to increasing the number of hospitals and medical seats in India.

He acknowledged that this move would not only fulfil the dreams of many aspiring doctors but also enhance the country’s overall healthcare capacity.

“We have expanded the health infrastructure by sanctioning an increase in the number of hospitals. We have also announced an increase in the number of MBBS seats in medical colleges so that our children can fulfil their dream of serving the nation as doctors,” he said.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The Prime Minister also spoke about the achievements of students from tier-2 and tier-3 cities, particularly in the fields of science and technology.

“There are 100 schools in my country where children are making satellites and also aspiring to release them one day. Today, thousands of tinkering labs are inspiring millions of children to take up the path of science and technology,” Modi noted.

He encouraged the youth by saying, “Today there is no dearth of opportunities, as many opportunities as you want, this country is capable of creating more opportunities. Sky’s the limit.”
