Srinagar, Jun 28 (KNO): A day ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, the residents Batwara, Sonwar, Indra Nagar, Shivpora, and other adjacent areas have been pushed to the wall as the electricity supply has not been provided to them since 4 PM on Wednesday.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the residents of Batwara, Sonwar, Indra Nagar, Shivpora, and other areas expressed their concerns as Eid is being celebrated tomorrow across Jammu & Kashmir.

They mentioned that the electricity in their area has started playing hide and seek, as it suddenly went missing around 4 in the afternoon.

“We have bakery items, food, and other perishable goods in our refrigerators, and they will get spoiled without electricity. Please tell us what we should do,” said a local resident.

“This is the peak time for my business, and without electricity, I can do nothing. I am being forced to work under candlelight, and my work has suffered a lot. I feel helpless now,” said a barber from the area.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Chief Engineer KPDCL Javed Yousf Dar told KNO that a faulty electric pole near Sonwar receiving station was the cause behind the issue and that they were working on repairing it.

Meanwhile, the CE assured that the supply will be restored within some time—(KNO)

Inflation, losses sustained by horticulture reason for sluggish sales

Bhat Imran

Srinagar, Jun 28 (KNO): Markets in Kashmir witnessed only 50 percent sales compared to previous years ahead on Eid-ul-Adha.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) president Javid Ahmad said they do not have a precise percentage of loss but there was a 50 percent decline in sales.

“We cannot be sure about the exact percentage of loss on Eid ul Adha but the difference is more than 50 percent from the previous year. As compared to the previous Eid, Kashmir recorded a minimum of 50 percent loss,” he said.

He cited decline in sales of Kashmir handicrafts market and losses sustained by the horticulture sector last year for the slump on Eid.

He said that inflation in the business across the world is the reason for sluggish business.

“We are sure about the 50 percent of loss because the horticulture sector didn’t get the money as per the market rates last year,” he said.

The chamber president added that horticulture is a big sector worth Rs 9000 crores with thousands of families involved. But fruit growers did not meet their demands.”

He also said that the handicraft sector saw slump in turnover from Rs 2500crore to 500-600 crore.

“If we talk about tourism, it is going well, but it cannot heal the loss all alone,” he said.

Tenga said that KCCI was optimistic to get better sales and market in the coming months. “We have given all the suggestions to the government. Till the time our demands are fulfilled, we are doing all that we can to overcome the loss,” he said.

In the meantime, prominent industrialists, Shakeel Qalander said that the inflation on essential item and low earnings of business communities were some of the major reasons for low business this Eid.

He also agreed that it was more than 50 percent of loss in business on Eid—(KNO)

J&K Bank Customers Infuriated As mPay Services’ Crash Ahead of Eid Ul Adha

J&K Bank Customers Infuriated As mPay Services’ Crash Ahead of Eid Ul Adha

Babar Rather

Srinagar, Jun 28 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir Bank customers have been left high and dry just a day before Eid Ul Adha as they faced significant issues in accessing mPay services – the bank’s mobile banking application.

News agency GNS received numerous calls from customers across Kashmir who reported difficulties logging into their accounts, rendering them unable to perform important transactions during the all important festival.

“The mPay service, which is crucial for digital transactions, especially for the Muslim community ahead of Eid-ul-Adha to purchase goods and items have been experiencing an unexpected outage. This has been causing quite an inconvenience to us all,” said Bashir Ahmad, a local from Srinagar.

Customers expressed their disappointment and dissatisfaction with the bank’s digital transaction system, particularly the app, which seemingly crashes without warning, creating a new low in the customer satisfaction.

The customers highlighted the inconvenience of such outages, particularly during significant religious occasions like Eid Ul Fitr, Eid Ul Adha, Baisakhi, and Diwali.

“With the Jammu and Kashmir Bank imposing limitations on ATM transactions, customers often prefer money transactions through app systems like mPay. Consequently, the responsibility of ensuring smooth operation of bank transaction apps, including mPay, lies with the top management of Jammu and Kashmir Bank,” said another consumer Shabir Ahmad from Bandipora.

Expressing their discontent, consumers took to social media platforms to share memes and posts highlighting the issue.

”The inconvenience faced by Jammu and Kashmir Bank customers on the eve of Eid Ul Adha raises concerns about the reliability of digital banking services during critical times, emphasizing the need for swift action to rectify these recurring technical issues,” said another consumer, Mohd Arif from Kulgam.

Despite efforts to contact the Bank’s top IT officials, no response was received to several calls and WhatsApp messages made by this correspondent. (GNS)
