School Edu Deptt to monitor its issues highlighted in different media platforms

Administrative Secretary orders creation of Media Cell

Srinagar, Jan 12 (KNO): In order to address the various issues of the School Education Department, the government Friday asked the concerned officials to monitor the issues of the department being highlighted in different media platforms.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in this regard, newly appointed Administrative Secretary, School Education Department Piyush Singla ordered creation of a departmental social media handle- cell.

Singla accordingly accorded formulation of a social media cell of School Education Department comprising of deputy secretary to the government for School Education Department, Personnel Officer, Directorate of School Education Jammu, Personnel Officer, Directorate of School Education Kashmir and representative of Samagra Shiksha, JKBOSE and SCERT.

He said that the media cell shall attend referral of daily departmental activities for social media handle. “It also shall monitor strengthening the mechanism for an active interaction of the department on social networking groups and through other means.”

Singla said that the cell shall also focus on creation of publicity materials in the forms of advertisement, publications, video, audio clips in collaboration with the field officer. “It shall also monitor the issues of the department highlighted in different media platforms.”

The administrative secretary said that the cell shall work under the overall supervision of a special secretary to the government for the School Education Department.

“The supervisory officer shall create a technical team for regular updation of information for various social media handles for which separate orders shall be issued,” he added—(KNO)

Dept to replace nearly 9,000 DTs that have turned obsolete or are out-aged: Pr Sec PDD

Srinagar, Jan 12 (KNO): In addition to consumer smart metering, Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) is mulling to install smart meters in over 40,000 Distribution Transformers (DTs) of Kashmir region

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), PDD Principal Secretary H Rajesh Prasad said, “JKPDD is all set to replace nearly 9,000 DTs that have turned obsolete or are out-aged.”

Prasad said: “Besides the department is going to install smart meters in all 40,000 plus DTs functioning in the Kashmir region so that we have a complete chain from feeder meter to DT meter to consumer meter.”

He said that the department aims to measure the energy right from the source to make it more accountable.

In the meanwhile, the official documents in this regard accessed by KNO reads, “KPDCL currently operates approximately 40,000 Distribution Transformers (DTs).”

“Additionally, there are proposed plans to add 9,000 DTs under the RDSS. Among these DTs, 10,000 are to have smart meters installed under the PMDP, while the remaining DTs covered under RDSS,” it reads.

It also states that the primary objective of implementing smart meters at the DT level is to enable accurate energy accounting and monitoring.

The Principal Secretary said, “The 10,000 DTs under PMDP have not been started yet because it is being covered under RDSS of which tendering has been done and installation have been initiated.”—(KNO)

As Dry Spell Prolongs, MeT Says Similar Trends Seen in Past in J&K

Freezing Night Temp Continues As Srinagar Records Minus 4.0°C

Srinagar, Jan 12 (GNS): As prolonged dry spell led to increased day temperature in Jammu and Kashmir with Banihal surpassing all-time record with 23.4°C on previous day, the weather department here on Friday said years with prolonged dry spells in past (2018, 2016, 2015) also showed similar trends of maximum temperature.

“Due to prolonged dry spells, the maximum temperature at many stations recorded 6-8°C above normal with highest maximum temperature recorded over Banihal station (23 4°C) on 11th January (Previous all time record 22.6°C on 18th January 2003),” said a meteorological department official here.

Contrary to this, he said, the places engulfed with dense fog recorded 9 to 10°C below normal with Jammu, Samba and Kathua recording 8.6, 8.8 and 8.9 °C maximum temperature on January 11.

“Years with prolonged dry spells also showed similar trends of maximum temperature in the past—(2018, 2016, 2015)”.
He said dry weather likely to continue till January 20 with feeble WDs approaching on Jan 12th & 17th evening.

“Under the influence of these WDs, Generally cloudy weather with light snow over isolated higher reaches is expected,” he said, adding, “18-20th January: Generally dry weather.”

He said slight improvement in visibility and reduction in dense fog is expected on January 13 in Jammu and is expected to redevelop with cold day conditions from January 13 onwards till 16th January.
Meanwhile, freezing weather conditions amid prolonged dry weather continued as Srinagar recorded a low of minus 4.0°C on Thursday.
The meteorological department official here told GNS that while Srinagar recorded minimum temperature of minus 5.0°C on the previous night, the temperature was 1.9°C below normal for the summer capital of J&K for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 4.2°C against minus 4.6°C on the previous night, he said. The minimum temperature was 1.2°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, the MeT official said.
Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5.3°C against minus 6.3°C on the previous night and it was 1.8°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 2.4°C, same as on the previous night and the temperature was above normal by 1.2°C for the place, the official said.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.4°C against minus 5.3°C on the previous night and it was 1.5°C below normal there, the official said.
Gulmarg, the official said, recorded a low of minus 3.2°C against minus 3.5°C on the previous night and the temperature was 4.7°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir.
Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 3.7°C against 4.7°C on previous night, and it was below normal by 3.3°C for the winter capital of J&K.
Banihal recorded a low of minus 0.4°C, Batote 4.5°C and Bhaderwah 1.3°C, he said.

Kashmir valley is under ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the 40-day harsh period of winter, which will end on January 30. However it does not mean an end to the winter. It is followed by a 20-day-long period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ that occurs between January 30 and February 19 and a 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which is from February 20 to March 1.
