Srinagar, Dec 18 (KNO): From August 2019 to December 6, 2023, a combined total of 31,830 vacancies in the government sector, including positions in J&K Bank, have been filled in Union Territory, while several other measures were taken for creation of employment opportunities to the unemployment youth, the government data revealed here on Saturday.

An official document available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), states that the Government of Jammu & Kashmir has taken several measures for creation of employment opportunities to the unemployment youth, which includes Implementation of self-employment schemes across various sectors to establish sustainable income-generating ventures for unemployed youth.

It stated that a cumulative total of 7.4 lakh self-employment and livelihood opportunities have been created or reinforced since the fiscal year 2021-22, extending up to December 6 2023.

The document also stated that the government introduced new initiatives such as Mumkin, Tejaswani, and Spurring Entrepreneurship under Mission Youth, aimed at facilitating the establishment of business units and sustainable livelihood projects, particularly in the transport sector.

“Job fairs and placement drives have been organized at divisional and district levels, creating a platform for unemployed youth and potential employers, resulting in enhanced job placement opportunities. Over the last two years, a total of 151 job fairs were conducted, with participation from 1631 companies,” it said.

The government announced the introduction of skill development programs for FY 2023-24, aiming to address skill gaps among the youth. Between 2020 and October 2023, a total of 4,74,464 candidates actively engaged in career counseling sessions, while 2,12,109 candidates participated in awareness campaigns for career guidance.

The government implemented governance reforms, conducting transparent large-scale recruitment drives post-reorganization. The establishment of the Accelerated Recruitment Committee in 2020 oversees public sector recruitment. Anantnag, Dec 18 (GNS): Authorities in Anantnag district on Monday warned Private Schools coaching centers in south Kashmir district for being involved in tuitions despite winter break.

“It has come to the notice of undersigned that some Private Schools are involved in tuitions despite winter break and are forcing the students to report such centers. Similarly, some coaching centers are also functioning without proper approval and registration,” reads a circular issued by Chief Education Officer Anantnag.

“Before action as warranted under rules is initiated against them, the management of these schools and tuition centers are put on strict instructions to desist from this activity henceforth,” the circular, a copy of which lies with GNS reads, adding, “Moreover, Zonal level monitoring committees already constituted for the purpose of monitoring are also put under strict instructions to maintain strict vigil over the violators for the said directions and prompt reporting to this office thereof.”(GNS)

Four earthquakes hit Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, tremors felt in North India

Srinagar, Dec 18: Earthquake in Kargil: Within minutes, four earthquakes jolts union territories Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday. The tremors were felt in Ladakh’s Kargil and Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar.

An earthquake of 5.5 magnitude on the Richter Scale hits Kargil in Laddakh, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) informed. The tremors were felt at around 3:48 pm.

As per the NCS, the epicenter of the quake was Kargil and the coordinates were 76.74°E and 33.15°N. The depth was 10 km. Fortunately, no reports of any damage have been reported so far. More details are awaited.

The National Center for Seismology (NCS) is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring of earthquake activity in the country.

Second Earthquake hits Ladakh: Another mild-density earthquake struck Ladakh. The magnitude of the quake was 3.8 on the Richter Scale.

Third quake: An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 on the Richter Scale struck Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir today.

Fourth Earthquake: Earlier this month, two earthquakes of mild intensity struck the Union Territory of Ladakh within a span of eight hours, officials said. Although no reports of any damage were reported, they added.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the first tremor measured 3.4 on the Richter scale occurred at 8.25 am. Its depth was 10 km below the surface at a latitude of 35.44 degrees and longitude of 77.36 degrees.

The second earthquake of 3.7 magnitude was noted at 4.29 pm at a depth of 5 km below the surface at a latitude of 35.23 and longitude of 77.59 degrees, it said.–(IndiaTV)
