CS office bids farewell to outgoing Chief Secretary

Jammu, Nov 30 (KNO): The office of the Chief Secretary, J&K Thursday bade farewell to the outgoing Chief Secretary, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta on his superannuation at the Civil Secretariat, Jammu.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Mehta recalled his tenure as the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and expressed his appreciation to the contribution and support provided by the staff of the office.

Dr. Mehta also acknowledged the contribution of the General Administration Department in promoting coordination within the administrative team of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged upon all officers and support staff to feel proud on the success of their efforts in promoting transparency and efficiency in J&K.

On this occasion, the staff extended warm wishes on retirement filled with health and happiness.

The event was attended by the Special Secretary, Additional Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries, Under Secretaries, Private Secretaries besides other gazetted and non-gazetted staff of the twin sections of the Civil Secretariat here—(KNO)

Srinagar, Nov 30 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir is all set to receive 293 Megawatt (MW) of power supply from the centre from tomorrow.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Principal Secretary Power Development Department H. Rahesh Prasad said, “Central government has allocated 293 MW more power to Jammu and Kashmir government.”

He said the supply will be received from December-01. “This is in addition to the recently purchased 500 MW agreement.”

“I think power supply is sufficient now during the and our focus shall be on revenue collection,” Prasad said—(KNO)

Authorities in Anantnag ban selling of petrol to two-wheelers without helmets

Srinagar, Nov 30: The authorities in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have imposed ban on selling of fuel to two-wheelers who ride without helmets and has asked all petrol pump owners to install CCTV cameras in their fuel stations.

According to an order, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) deputy commissioner Anantnag has asked all petrol and filling stations in the district shall not sell petrol to two-wheelers without helmets.

The directives have come in wake of the rising accidents in the district particularly involving two-wheelers.

Per the order petrol pump and filling station owners have been asked to install CCTV cameras, which should clearly show the footage of the buyers.

“The Petrol stations selling fuel to such traffic rule violators shall be personally held responsible and shall be dealt as per the law. Any violation of this order will be dealt in accordance with section 188 of IPC,” it said—(KNO)

NIT Srinagar Asks Students To Vacate Hostels With Immediate Effect for Winter Vacations

Srinagar, Nov 30 (GNS): National Institute of Technology, Hazratbal Srinagar, has instructed all students to vacate hostels with immediate effect.

The instructions, the authorities said, are being made in pursuance of declaration of winter vacations.

“Pursuant to declaration of Winter Vacation for students w.e.f 30.11.2023 vide Order No. 60 of 2023 issued under endorsement number NITS/R/23/600 dated 30.11.2023 all hostel boarders (Boys and Girls) are instructed to vacate the hostels with immediate effect”, reads a circular, as per GNS. (GNS)

Srinagar, Nov 30 (GNS): National Institute of Technology Dargah Hazratbal and Islamia College of Science and Commerce Hawal have suspended all academic activities for the day.

Islamia College of Science and Commerce Hawal has however informed the students that backlog examinations of 3rd semester shall be conducted as per schedule.

Mughal Road Shut Down Amid Recent Snowfall

Mughal road closed due to fresh snowfall

Poonch, Nov 30 (GNS): Mughal road, connecting Kashmir Valley’s Shopian district with twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, was closed due to fresh snowfall on Thursday, officials said.

They said that there was fresh snowfall at several places along the road including ‘Pir Ki Gali’, leading to the closure of the thoroughfare.

DySP PC Surankote Hamid Ali Bandey confirmed to GNS the closure of the road.

Earlier this year, the road, considered as alternative to Jammu-Srinagar Highway, was closed on several occasions due to snowfall, particularly in ‘Pir KiGali’ and its adjoining areas.(GNS)
