Qazigund, Jan 28: The 270 kilometre Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was partially opened for traffic on Wednesday, with authorities working to clear vehicles stranded at multiple locations in Qazigund. The highway was closed on Tuesday following heavy snowfall.

Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that priority is being given to stranded light motor vehicles (LMVs) at various points in Qazigund to ease congestion and ensure safe passage.

They said snow clearance operations are underway on vulnerable stretches, while salt and urea are being sprinkled at identified spots to prevent skidding and improve road conditions.

The officials added that the highway will be opened in a phased manner, subject to weather conditions and road safety assessments.

Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official traffic advisories before undertaking their journey.
Meanwhile, flight operations at Srinagar Airport resumed this morning. These were temporarily suspended due to poor visibility caused by snowfall.

“Arrivals and departures to and from the airport are now back on schedule, easing travel for stranded passengers,” officials said adding they have advised travelers to stay in touch with airlines for updates as weather conditions remain unpredictable—(KNO)

Trapped by snowfall, doctor rides excavator to reach Shopian hospital to perform surgeries

Srinagar: Braving treacherous weather and waist-deep snow, a doctor posted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday proved that a sense of duty can triumph over even nature’s harshest challenges as he reached his hospital atop an excavator to attend to patients.

Dr. Basharat Pandit, a resident of south Kashmir’s Pulwama and currently staying in Srinagar, is a gynaecologist posted at the district hospital in Shopian.

He set out from home at 7.30 on Tuesday to cover the nearly 55-km journey. While snowfall was light in and around Srinagar, conditions worsened in south Kashmir, where Shopian received three to four feet of fresh snow

After reaching Shopian, his car got stuck, forcing him to walk nearly three km in a desperate bid to reach the hospital.

“It was early morning, and most roads were not cleared. I started walking, but then a JCB (excavator) came along, so I hopped onto that,” Pandit told PTI over the phone.

He said he took the excavator to the hospital and arrived there around 10.30 am.

“It was a sense of responsibility and duty… It was the sense of duty towards my patients, especially the pregnant women, who could otherwise have faced problems,” he said.

Pandit said he had to reach the hospital at any cost to perform procedures on pregnant women.

“Many patients were lined up for procedures, and there were some emergencies as well. Referring the patients to other hospitals in this heavy snow would have created difficulties,” he said.

The doctor said his department performed 10 surgeries during the day, and all the patients were stable. (PTI)

JKSSB Deputy Superintendent Fee Refund 2026: Last Chance to Submit Bank Details (Extension Notice)

Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has issued an important extension notice regarding the refund of examination/application fee received from candidates who had applied for the post of Deputy Superintendent in the Directorate of Stationery and Office Supplies, Jammu & Kashmir. The said post was earlier advertised by JKSSB vide Advertisement Notification No. 05 of 2020 dated 24 December 2020 (Item No. 162).

As per the latest notice dated 27 January 2026, JKSSB has clearly informed that the post has been withdrawn, and therefore the board is providing candidates a final opportunity to claim refund of their submitted application/examination fee. This extension notice is especially important for all those applicants who have not yet submitted their bank details for refund processing, as JKSSB has announced that this is the “last and final opportunity” for eligible candidates.

According to the official communication, JKSSB has advised all concerned candidates to furnish their bank account details through the refund link available on the official JKSSB website. The board has also fixed a specific time period for submission of refund-related bank details. The refund link will remain active for only 07 days, starting from 28 January 2026 and will close on 03 February 2026. Candidates must ensure they complete the process within this given window, as the Board has strictly mentioned that no further request regarding the refund will be entertained after the deadline.

The notice has been issued to facilitate candidates who had earlier applied for the Deputy Superintendent post but could not claim their refund. Such candidates are now required to submit correct and active bank details in order to receive the refund amount. It is strongly advised that applicants fill in their information carefully, including account number, IFSC code and other banking details, because any incorrect information may lead to delay or failure in receiving the refund.

JKSSB has shared the refund submission link in the notice. Candidates can access it directly and complete the process online. The link mentioned for submission is:

The board has highlighted that the link is provided through the official website only, and candidates should avoid any unofficial sources to prevent mistakes or fraud. The refund process is completely online, and candidates do not need to visit any JKSSB office physically for this purpose.

This notice is crucial because many candidates often miss earlier deadlines due to lack of information, technical issues or non-awareness of the refund process. With this extension, JKSSB has provided an additional chance, but at the same time has made it clear that this will be the final extension. Therefore, all eligible candidates are advised to take immediate action and submit their bank details as soon as possible.

It is also recommended that candidates keep a screenshot or printout of the submitted form details as proof. In case of any issues, candidates may later contact JKSSB helpdesk or relevant department with proper submission evidence. However, candidates must not wait for the last day because heavy traffic on the website could lead to technical difficulties.

In conclusion, the JKSSB refund extension notice is a major update for candidates who applied for the Deputy Superintendent post advertised in 2020. Applicants should complete the refund claim process between 28 January 2026 and 03 February 2026 without fail. Any candidate who fails to submit their details during this period may permanently lose the chance to get refund of their application fee.
