University of Kashmir Issues Notice on Shortlisting Criteria for Level-6 Subordinate Posts

University of Kashmir Issues Notice on Shortlisting Criteria for Level-6 Subordinate Posts

The University of Kashmir, a NAAC-accredited institution with Grade “A++”, has officially notified candidates regarding the shortlisting criteria and selection scheme for the appointment to Level-6 subordinate posts. The notification outlines the exam pattern, marking scheme, skill/trade test details, and selection methodology, providing much-needed clarity to aspirants who have applied or plan to apply for these posts.

The notice has been issued by the Deputy Registrar (Recruitment) and applies to all subordinate positions where the shortlisting process is required based on the number of eligible candidates.

Overview of the University of Kashmir Recruitment Notice

The University has framed a transparent and structured selection process depending on the number of eligible candidates for each post. The criteria ensure fairness while maintaining merit-based recruitment.

The selection framework is divided into three major categories based on the count of eligible applicants:

  1. Posts with more than 20 eligible candidates
  2. Posts with 20 or fewer eligible candidates
  3. Posts with less than 5 eligible candidates

Each category has a distinct evaluation mechanism, which candidates must understand carefully.

Selection Process for Posts with More Than 20 Eligible Candidates

For posts where the number of eligible applicants exceeds twenty (20), the University will adopt a two-stage selection process.

1. OMR-Based Written Test

Candidates will first be required to appear in an OMR-based written examination. The key details of the test are as follows:

  • Total Questions: 80 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Marks per Question: 1 mark for each correct answer
  • Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer
  • Total Duration: 90 minutes

This written test is designed to objectively assess candidates’ subject knowledge and aptitude relevant to the post.

2. Skill / Trade Test (Wherever Applicable)

Depending on the nature of the post, shortlisted candidates will be called for a Skill or Trade Test.

  • Candidates will be shortlisted in the ratio of 1:5 per post based on marks secured in the written test
  • The Skill/Trade Test will carry 20 marks
  • Only candidates who qualify the written examination will be considered for this stage

The Skill/Trade Test aims to evaluate practical proficiency and job-related skills, especially for technical or operational roles.

Final Selection Criteria (For More Than 20 Candidates)

The University has clearly stated that:

  • Final selection will be based on composite merit, calculated from:
    • Marks obtained in the OMR-based written test
    • Marks obtained in the Skill/Trade Test (if conducted)
  • Only those candidates who appear in both tests will be considered for final appointment
  • Selection will strictly follow the order of merit

If a particular post requires only a written test, the selection will be based solely on written test marks.

Selection Process for Posts with 20 or Fewer Eligible Candidates

For posts where the number of eligible candidates is less than or equal to twenty (20), the University has relaxed the shortlisting requirement.

Key Points:

  • No separate shortlisting test will be conducted
  • All eligible candidates will be:
    • Allowed to appear directly in the OMR-based written test, or
    • Called for a Skill/Trade Test, depending on the post requirements
  • The University reserves the right to decide the appropriate assessment method

Selection Basis:

  • Final selection will be made purely on merit
  • Merit will be calculated based on:
    • Written Test marks, or
    • Skill/Trade Test marks, as applicable

This provision ensures faster recruitment when the applicant pool is small.

Re-advertisement Clause for Posts with Less Than 5 Eligible Candidates

The notification also includes a critical clause regarding posts with very few applicants.

Important Condition:

  • If the number of eligible candidates for any post is less than five (5):
    • The post shall be re-advertised

This ensures adequate competition and maintains the integrity of the recruitment process.

Why This Notification Is Important for Aspirants

This notice is highly significant for candidates aspiring for Level-6 subordinate posts at the University of Kashmir because it:

  • Clearly explains the exam pattern and marking scheme
  • Removes ambiguity regarding shortlisting and selection
  • Helps candidates strategize preparation effectively
  • Ensures transparency and fairness in recruitment

Understanding the criteria in advance allows candidates to focus on accuracy, especially due to negative marking in the written test.

Key Highlights at a Glance

  • ✔ OMR-based test with 80 MCQs
  • 0.25 negative marking for wrong answers
  • 90 minutes exam duration
  • ✔ Skill/Trade Test of 20 marks (where applicable)
