JEE Main 2026: CBSE Directs Schools to Provide Class 11 Registration Number for Applicants – Complete Guide, Instructions, and Important Dates.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is one of the largest engineering entrance exams in India, conducted every year by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam serves as the gateway to prestigious engineering institutions such as NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and is also the qualifying exam for the JEE Advanced, which leads to admission into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). With lakhs of students appearing each year, the application process needs to be smooth, accurate, and transparent.

For the JEE Main 2026 exam, an important update has been issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Schools have been instructed to provide the Class 11 registration number of students who are applying for the exam. This information has been made mandatory while filling out the JEE Main 2026 application form, and a large number of students had previously reported not receiving this number from their schools.

What Has CBSE Announced?

The CBSE recently directed all affiliated schools to ensure that students applying for JEE Main 2026 are provided with their Class 11 Registration Number without delay. This registration number is generated when a student is enrolled in Class 11 under CBSE and remains the same throughout Class 12.

Why is the Class 11 Registration Number Important?

The Class 11 registration number helps verify a student’s identity, school affiliation, and examination records across CBSE systems. By linking the JEE Main application to this number, the authorities aim to:

  • Reduce misinformation and document discrepancies
  • Ensure genuine identity verification
  • Simplify data tracking for Class 12 board exam results
  • Maintain transparency between schools and exam boards

What Happens If a Student Does Not Have the Registration Number?

If the number is missing:

  • The school must provide it immediately
  • The student should not delay the application
  • If a school refuses, students can raise a complaint with CBSE regional office

Free Ride Scheme Leaves E-Bus Project Stuck Over Unpaid Dues

Women’s free ride scheme leaves SRTC, e-bus project struggling

Govt yet to compensate losses; 8 smart buses grounded due to lack of funds

Officials say repeated letters sent to clear liabilities, no response so far

Srinagar: More than eight e-buses in Srinagar have been grounded due to lack of funds needed for repairs and purchase of spare parts.

The government has also not cleared the liabilities owed to the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) for providing free travel to women passengers.

Top officials in the transport department told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the corporation has written several times to the government seeking compensation for losses incurred after the administration directed SRTC not to charge women passengers. Officials said no payments have been released so far.

They added that the e-bus project will struggle to survive if adequate funding is not provided immediately.

“We have written to the government many times, and the process continues even today. We are seeking mitigation of losses incurred due to the directive of ferrying women passengers free of cost,” a senior official said.

He said earlier reports about e-buses losing lakhs of rupees every day reflected only part of the problem, and that the actual losses are even higher.

Due to insufficient funding, the corporation has been unable to carry out timely repairs. Several buses now have deflated tyres or remain grounded for want of spare parts.

“Out of 20 e-buses operating in Srinagar, more than eight have been grounded. The number may rise if the situation continues,” the official said.

The NC-led administration launched the Zero Ticket travel initiative on April 1 this year, allowing free travel for women in Smart City e-buses and JKSRTC buses across Jammu and Kashmir. The measure was projected as an important step for women’s safety.

However, concerns were raised at the time that women passengers constitute a significant share of the overall ridership, and the initiative could affect the revenue of private transporters who rely heavily on female passengers.

Officials had also warned that the decision could put additional strain on the already cash-starved state exchequer—(KNO)
