No phone, 9-hour study routine: Meet JEE Mains 2025 topper Om Prakash

Hailing from Odisha, the 17-year-old topper credits his success to discipline, family support, and Kota’s competitive environment.

This 17-year-old boy Om Prakash Behera from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, has secured the All India Rank 1 in the JEE Mains 2025 April session. With a perfect score of 300/300 in the January session and consistent performance throughout, Om Prakash has set a shining example for lakhs of engineering aspirants across the country.

Born on January 12, 2008, Om Prakash comes from a well-educated family. His father, Kamlakant Behera, serves in the Odisha Administrative Services, while his mother, Smita Rani Behera, is a college lecturer. Demonstrating unwavering support, his mother took a three-year break from her career to move to Kota and support his preparation journey.

After scoring 92% in his Class 10 exams, Om Prakash enrolled at Allen Career Institute in Kota and became part of its regular classroom program. He emphasised the role of Allen’s faculty, study material, and Kota’s highly competitive atmosphere in shaping his preparation.

“Allen’s guidance and Kota’s environment were instrumental. Here, both content and competition are at their best,” he shared.

His daily routine included 8-9 hours of self-study, along with rigorous test analysis and correction of mistakes. “My mantra was to focus on the present, not dwell on the past,” said the topper. Staying away from mobile phones was also a conscious decision for him, considering the distractions they pose in today’s digital age. Instead, he turned to novels for mental relaxation.

Currently preparing for the JEE Advanced, Om Prakash aspires to pursue BTech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay.

His story is a testament to what focused effort, family sacrifice, and the right guidance can achieve. For every JEE aspirant, Om Prakash’s journey is more than just a success story — it’s a roadmap to the top.
