Winter Vacations Announced for All ITIs in J&K from January 13 to 22, 2026

The Directorate of Skill Development, Jammu and Kashmir, has officially announced winter vacations for all Government and Private Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The decision has been taken in view of the severe cold wave and harsh winter conditions prevailing in the region.

As per the official order issued by the department, students of all ITIs will remain on winter break for ten days from January 13, 2026, to January 22, 2026.

Official Order Issued by Directorate of Skill Development

The order was issued under Order No. 16 of 2026 dated 12-01-2026 by the Directorate of Skill Development, J&K, headquartered at Jammu and Srinagar.

The official notification states:

“Due to the intense cold wave and inclement weather conditions, all Government and Private Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) of J&K shall observe ten (10) days winter vacations w.e.f 13.01.2026 to 22.01.2026 for students only.”

This announcement applies to all ITI students enrolled in various trades across Jammu, Kashmir, and other regions of the UT.

Order Number 16 of 2026
Order Date 12 January 2026
Applicable To All Govt & Private ITIs of J&K
Vacation Period 13 January to 22 January 2026

Why the Decision Was Taken

Jammu and Kashmir is currently experiencing one of the harshest winter phases of the season. Continuous snowfall, freezing temperatures, icy roads, and foggy conditions have made daily commuting difficult for students.

The government took this decision to ensure:

  • Safety of students
  • Avoidance of weather-related accidents
  • Disruption-free continuation of academic activities after winter

Many ITI students travel long distances daily, and the weather conditions could pose serious risks.

Applies to Both Government and Private ITIs

The winter vacation order is applicable to:

  • All Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs)
  • All Private ITIs
  • Both Jammu and Kashmir Divisions

The Directorate has also instructed all Principals and Superintendents of ITIs to ensure the smooth implementation of the order.

When Will Classes Resume?

Since winter vacations end on 22 January 2026, all ITI students are expected to return to their respective institutes from:

Thursday, January 23, 2026

However, if weather conditions worsen further, the government may review the decision.

What Students Should Do

Students are advised to:

  • Regularly follow official updates from ITI authorities
  • Stay connected with their institute administration
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during the vacation period
  • Prepare for upcoming practicals and theory classes

The announcement of winter vacations from January 13 to January 22, 2026, has brought major relief to thousands of ITI students across Jammu and Kashmir. The move reflects the government’s concern for student safety amid severe winter conditions.

All students should enjoy the break responsibly and stay prepared for the resumption of classes.
