Srinagar, Dec 24: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a roster of Administrative Secretaries who will remain available at the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar, during the month of January 2026.

According to Government Order No. 1949-JK(GAD) of 2025, dated December 24, 2025 as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, senior officers from various departments have been assigned duties in a phased manner to ensure smooth functioning of the Civil Secretariat during the winter period.

As per the roster, Principal Secretary Culture Brij Mohan Sharma, IFS, along with Commissioner/Secretary General Administration Department M. Raju, IAS, Secretary Health & Medical Education Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, and Secretary Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Mohammad Aijaz, IAS, will remain available from January 5 to January 9, 2026.

J&K Govt Approves 18 Percent Hike in Public Transport Fares From January 2026

Srinagar, Dec 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved an 18 percent increase in public transport fares, with effect from January 1, 2026.

The decision, as per GNS, was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Principal Secretary to the Government, Finance Department, Santosh D. Vaidhya.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Avny Lavasa, Acting Transport Commissioner J&K Anju Gupta, Managing Director JKRTC Abdul Rashid War, Additional Secretary General Administration Department Rohit Sharma, Joint Transport Commissioner Vikas Anand, and Regional Transport Officer Jammu Jasmeet Singh. Several officials from the Planning and Development Department were also present. The Regional Transport Officer Kashmir joined the meeting through virtual mode.

Representatives of the All J&K Transport Welfare Association, led by its Chairman Karan Singh Wazir, also participated in the meeting.

During the discussions, the association highlighted a sustained rise in fuel prices, taxes, and operational costs. They pointed out that public transport fares had not been revised for nearly five years despite mounting financial pressure on operators.

After detailed deliberations, the Principal Secretary Finance agreed to the demand and approved an 18 percent hike in transport fares across the Union Territory.

Officials in the meantime said the revised fares will come into force from January 1, 2026, following issuance of a formal notification by the Transport Department. (GNS)

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued the latest weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, indicating largely stable conditions over the coming days, with brief spells of cloudiness and chances of light precipitation towards the end of December and the beginning of January.

According to the forecast, most parts of the Union Territory will experience partly cloudy to generally cloudy weather, while light snow over higher reaches and light rain over plains cannot be ruled out at isolated and scattered locations during specific periods.

  • Weather across Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain partly cloudy.

Srinagar, Dec 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday said that nearly 48 percent households in Srinagar enjoy uninterrupted electricity supply following a successful Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) trial with zero power cuts.

Office of the Chief Minister, in a post on X, per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), congratulated KPDCL on making another 83 areas in Srinagar 24-hour power zones following a successful RDSS trial with zero power cuts.

“With this, 108 areas in Srinagar now enjoy round-the-clock, uninterrupted electricity supply, benefiting 1.25 lakh households, nearly 48% of the city. Similar upgrades are underway in other districts to ensure 24×7 power supply,” he said—(KNO)

Avalanche warning issued for five districts in J-K

Srinagar, Dec 24: An avalanche warning was issued in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday in view of the recent heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of the Union territory, officials said.

The low danger avalanche warning has been issued for Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban districts. The avalanche is likely to occur 2,800 metres above these districts during the next 24 hours, they said.

People have been asked to avoid avalanche-prone areas and follow official advisories.

Most of the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir have received moderate to heavy snowfall this week.–(PTI)
