JKSSB JE (Civil) Aspirants Demand Exam Reschedule Amid Highway Closure and Marathon in Srinagar

“Highway Closed, Marathon in City; How Will We Reach?” JKSSB JE (Civil) Aspirants Urge Govt to Reschedule Exam

Srinagar, Oct 31: Thousands of aspirants scheduled to appear in the JKSSB Junior Engineer (Civil) examination on November 2 have raised serious concerns over travel disruptions caused by simultaneous events and restrictions across Srinagar, urging authorities to reschedule the exam to ensure fair participation.

Aspirants appearing for the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) Junior Engineer (Civil) examination scheduled for November 2, 2025, have appealed to the administration to reschedule the exam in view of multiple restrictions and closures expected across Srinagar on the same day.

A group of aspirants told news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the date clashes with the International Marathon being held in the city, for which strict traffic restrictions and diversions have already been announced by the J&K Police.

Additionally, traffic advisories related to the Darbar Move and the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) for upward traffic are likely to make it impossible for many candidates, particularly from South Kashmir districts, to reach their centres, aspirants said.

“The simultaneous impact of the marathon, highway closure, and Darbar Move curbs will make travel to Srinagar nearly impossible for thousands of candidates,” the aspirants said in a joint representation.

They also expressed concern over the revised timing of the exam, from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, citing safety and travel difficulties for candidates returning to distant areas after dusk.

The aspirants urged the JKSSB and Divisional Administration Kashmir to consider rescheduling the exam to a “more accessible and candidate-friendly date,” ensuring equal opportunity for all. (KNC)

DSEK Announces Change in School Timings Across Kashmir Division from November 1

Srinagar, Oct 30 (KSA):
The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has announced a change in school timings for all Government and recognized Private Schools across the Kashmir Division, effective from November 1, 2025.

The order has been issued under Order No. 309-DSEK of 2025, dated October 30, 2025, by the Director General, School Education Kashmir, and applies to all educational institutions operating within the division.

Revised School Timings

According to the official notification, the new timings will be as follows:

S. No. Area New Timing
1 Schools within Srinagar Municipal limits 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
2 Schools outside Municipal limits of Srinagar District and other areas of Kashmir Province 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM

The new schedule will remain in force from November 1, 2025, until further orders.

Strict Compliance Ordered

The Directorate has directed all government and private institutions to strictly adhere to the revised timings without any deviation.

“All heads of institutions must implement the new schedule from the notified date and ensure that teaching activities commence accordingly,” the order states.

Copies of the order have been forwarded to key administrative and educational authorities, including:

  • Secretary, School Education Department, J&K
  • Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir
  • Deputy Commissioners of all districts
  • Director, Information Department (for public dissemination)
  • Chief Education Officers (All districts)
  • Doordarshan Kendra and Radio Kashmir

The DSEK has also requested the Information Department to publicize the change widely through print and electronic media to ensure that students, teachers, and parents are fully informed.

Reason Behind the Change

Officials said the adjustment in school timings marks the transition to the winter schedule, which is a routine practice in the Kashmir Valley.

The change is aimed at providing relief to students and staff amid falling temperatures and shorter daylight hours as winter sets in.

“This shift ensures safety and comfort for school-going children, especially during cold and foggy mornings,” said an official from the Directorate of School Education Kashmir.

J&K MBBS Graduates Decry “Unfair” Reservation Policy in NEET-PG Counseling, Demand Merit-Based Reforms

Meritorious MBBS Graduates Say Reservation Policy Denying Them PG Seats

Srinagar, Oct 31: Several MBBS graduates from Jammu and Kashmir have expressed deep resentment over what they described as “unjust and discriminatory” seat allocation in the NEET-PG counseling process conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE), alleging that the existing reservation policy has pushed meritorious candidates out of contention for postgraduate medical courses.

One of the affected doctors said he remains unemployed not because of lack of merit but because the current system gives disproportionate advantage to candidates from reserved categories. He pointed out that in the JKBOPEE’s present seat distribution pattern, a general-category aspirant with an All India Rank (AIR) of 1,000 competes against a reserved-category candidate ranked around 10,000, while a general candidate ranked 2,000 equates to a reserved candidate ranked 20,000.

“This is completely unfair. We study day and night, sacrificing years to achieve good ranks, but our efforts are nullified by a skewed reservation policy that undermines merit. Is this justice?” the doctor asked.

Several candidates echoed similar sentiments, saying that the system not only demoralizes open merit students but also leads to a waste of talent, as many bright MBBS graduates either opt for foreign universities or abandon the pursuit of postgraduate training altogether.

While officials maintain that the reservation policy follows constitutional provisions and government orders, discontent among doctors has continued to rise. Many are now calling for a comprehensive review of the NEET-PG counseling framework to ensure a fair balance between social equity and merit-based selection.

Several medical associations said that they have submitted formal representations to the authorities, urging the government to revisit the existing quota structure and restore confidence among merit-based candidates. [KNT]
