Dy. Forester, Forest Guard Caught Taking Rs 11,000 Bribe by ACB

Srinagar, June 5 (JKNS): The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday trapped and arrested a Deputy Forester and a Forest Guard red-handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹11,000 from a complainant in Kalidhar Forest Range.

Spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, ACB received a complaint alleging therein that public servants namely Surinder Kumar, posted as B.O (Deputy Forester) in the Range Office, Kalidhar, Block Chowki Choura (now under transfer) and Kewal Krishan, then posted as Forest Guard with the said Dy. Forester (now posted at Forest Check Post Bridge, Akhnoor), demanded illegal gratification for release of additional CDR., it reads.

The accused persons had demanded a bribe of ₹14,000 from the complainant for release of additional CDR, which was deposited by the complainant during the execution of the work namely “Construction of 126 Boundary Pillars in Compartment No. 12/K, Nada Chargiyal Forest, Kalidhar Forest Range” allotted in reference to e-NIT No. 27 of 2024-25 dated 07-11-2024 of Forest Department, it reads.

After negotiation, the accused public servants have agreed to take bribe amount of Rs 11,000/- (Rs 3000/- for the Dy. Forester and rest of the amount for Forest Guard) from the complainant for doing the needful. Since, the complainant didn’t want to pay bribe and he approached Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servants under law, it reads.

On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirms the demand of bribe by the public servants concerned and accordingly, a case FIR No. 11/2025 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and section 61(2) BNS, 2023 was registered in Police Station ACB Jammu and investigation taken up, statement reads.

During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servants were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of ₹11,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused persons were arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due process of law., it reads.

The bribe money was also recovered from their possession in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team. Moreover, searches are also being conducted in the residential houses of both the accused in presence of independent witnesses and Magistrates, it reads.

Harwan man dies, 4 injured in Nehru Park accident

Srinagar, June 06 (KNO): A 30-year-old man from Srinagar lost his life and four others sustained injuries late Thursday night in an accident on Boulevard Road here.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Danish Ahmed of Harwan died after suffering critical injuries when two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK01AQ-9509 and JK05K-4404 had an head on collission near Nehru Park.

Other injured were identified as Parvais Mir, son of Mohammad Afzal, resident of Baramulla; Amir Wani, son of Abdul Rashid Wani, resident of Bandipora; Yasir Ahmad Khan, son of Abdul Hamid, resident of Pattan; and Abid Hassan, son of Ghulam Hassan, resident of Wahdatpora Budgam.

They are undergoing treatment in the hospital and their condition is stable, the official added.

Direct train between Jammu and Srinagar will run in September: Union Minister

Jammu, June 05 (KNO): Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Thursday said that the direct train between Jammu and Srinagar will run in September after work on Jammu railway station is completed.

Speaking to the reporters, the minister, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that work on Jammu Railway station is going on. “The work is expected to be completed by September. With the availability of platform 5 and 6, Vande Bharat trains will run between Jammu and Srinagar directly in September,” he said.

The Union Minister visited Jammu Railway station where he inspected the ongoing development works. His visit comes as part of the preparations for the launch of a much-anticipated train service to Kashmir.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to flag off Vande Bharat trains tomorrow at Katra. He will also inaugurate Chenab & Anji bridges. Besides, he will lay the foundation and inaugurate several projects worth Rs 46,000 crore in Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)

New Online Application Portal

To streamline the registration and application process, the UPSC has launched a new online application portal.

This year, candidates were required to register first on the One-Time Registration (OTR) platform available on the Commission’s website. The OTR profile only needs to be created once in a lifetime and can be done at any time throughout the year.

Candidates who had already registered on the OTR platform could directly proceed to fill out the online application form for the examination.

Negative Marking 

There is a negative marking for incorrect answers in the Objective Type Question Papers:

• For each incorrect answer, one-third (0.33) of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted.
• No penalty is applied for unanswered questions

CSE Selection Stages

The Civil Services Examination is conducted in two successive stages:

Preliminary Examination (Objective Type): For shortlisting candidates for the Main Examination
Main Examination (Written and Interview/Personality Test): For final selection to various services and posts

Prelims Exam Structure

• The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective-type papers (multiple choice questions) carrying a total of 400 marks.
