Srinagar to Jammu Train Timetable 2025 – Check Jammu Kashmir Train Timing

Vande Bharat Train Timetable Announced: Only Four Stations Between Jammu and Srinagar

In a landmark development for Jammu and Kashmir’s rail connectivity, the Ministry of Railways has officially announced the timetable for the newly launched Vande Bharat Express trains between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar. These semi-high-speed trains will halt at only four key stations—Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Banihal, and Srinagar—ensuring swift and efficient travel for passengers across the region. Two train pairs have been sanctioned under train numbers 26401/02 and 26403/04, operating six days a week with one maintenance day. The schedule aims to optimize operational efficiency and passenger convenience.

According to the released timetable, train number 26402 will depart from Srinagar at 2:00 PM and reach Jammu Tawi at 6:50 PM, operating every day except Tuesday. Another train, 26404, will leave Srinagar at 8:00 AM and arrive in Jammu at 12:40 PM, not running on Wednesdays. From Jammu, train number 26401 will depart at 6:20 AM and reach Srinagar at 11:10 AM, except on Tuesdays. Meanwhile, train number 26403 will operate at 1:20 PM from Jammu, reaching Srinagar by 6:00 PM, with Wednesday as its weekly off. The Vande Bharat service is expected to revolutionize daily commuting, tourism, and business travel in the region.

This enhanced rail connectivity is part of a broader transformation in Jammu and Kashmir’s transport infrastructure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the region on June 6 to flag off the new train services and inaugurate the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River and India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge at Anji. These projects, under the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), represent engineering excellence with over 272 km of railway lines, 36 tunnels, and 943 bridges built across the challenging Himalayan terrain at a cost of ₹43,780 crore. The fully electrified and modernized railway system is paving the way for cleaner, faster, and more inclusive regional growth.

The Banihal–Sangaldan section, featuring advanced ballastless tracks, was commissioned in February 2024, marking the arrival of electric trains in the Kashmir Valley. Final safety inspections for the 111-km Banihal–Katra section began in January 2025, moving closer to full connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. Additionally, the newly formed Jammu Railway Division under Northern Railway, with its headquarters in Jammu city, is set to better serve the transport needs of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, and adjoining regions. With major station upgrades and goods terminals coming up, this development is a game changer in integrating lives, economies, and landscapes across northern India.

The Ministry of Railways has released the timetable for the newly introduced Vande Bharat Express train services between Jammu Tawi and Srinagar, marking a major milestone in enhancing rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.

The semi-high-speed trains will operate with limited halts, stopping only at four key stations along the route—Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Banihal, and Srinagar.

According to the Ministry’s notification, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), two pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains have been approved for the route under train numbers 26401/02 and 26403/04.

These trains will run six days a week, with each taking one day off for maintenance and operational efficiency.

From Srinagar, train number 26402 will depart at 14:00 hrs and reach Jammu Tawi at 18:50 hrs, except on Tuesdays. Another train, 26404, will depart Srinagar at 08:00 hrs and arrive at Jammu Tawi by 12:40 hrs, operating every day except Wednesday.

On the return journey, train number 26401 will leave Jammu Tawi at 06:20 hrs and reach Srinagar by 11:10 hrs, except on Tuesdays. Meanwhile, train number 26403 will depart Jammu Tawi at 13:20 hrs and reach Srinagar at 18:00 hrs, not operating on Wednesdays.

The service is expected to be a game changer for tourism, business, and daily commuting in the region.

The Vande Bharat Express is set to glide swiftly between Katra and Srinagar, cutting down travel time and setting a new benchmark in comfort for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This development is more than just a new train service—it stands as a symbol of how far the region’s railway network has come over the last 11 years.

On June 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir to mark this progress. He will flag off the new Vande Bharat trains and inaugurate two engineering marvels: the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab and India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge at Anji.

The rail map of Jammu and Kashmir has been redrawn with precision and purpose. Projects once seen as distant dreams have become functional links, connecting lives, livelihoods, and landscapes. With full electrification, a dedicated railway division, and station modernisation underway, the region is now firmly on track for faster, cleaner, and more inclusive growth.

The Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) is one of the most ambitious railway projects undertaken in independent India. Stretching 272 kilometres through the rugged Himalayas, the project has been built at a cost of ₹43,780 crore. It includes 36 tunnels spanning 119 kilometres and 943 bridges that knit together valleys, ridges, and mountain passes.

In February 2024, a new 48-km rail line between Banihal, Khari, Sumber, and Sangaldan was commissioned, along with the newly electrified 185.66-km Baramulla–Srinagar–Banihal–Sangaldan section. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the valley’s first electric train and also launched train services between Sangaldan and Baramulla stations. The Banihal–Sangaldan section features ballastless track (BLT), ensuring a smoother and more comfortable ride for passengers.

In January 2025, final safety inspections began on the 111-km Banihal–Katra section of the Jammu division, paving the way for full train connectivity between Jammu and the Kashmir Valley. This section features 97 km of tunnels and four major bridges spanning 7 km. Meanwhile, Jammu station is being redeveloped with eight platforms and modern facilities to offer a world-class travel experience.

Also in January 2025, Indian Railways inaugurated the new Jammu Railway Division under Northern Railway, with its headquarters in Jammu city.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 6, this division was carved out of the Ferozepur Division to better serve the rail transport needs of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of Punjab.

The division includes 11 key goods terminals, facilitating the movement of food grains, cement, coal, fuel, and perishable produce across the region

NEET PG 2025 Unlikely Before August 3, NMC Informs Supreme Court

0
NBEMS has informed the Supreme Court that NEET PG 2025 can’t be held before August 3 due to the need for single-shift logistics and nationwide arrangements. It has sought permission to conduct the exam on August 3.

If you’re waiting for the NEET PG 2025 exam, there’s a new update. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has informed the Supreme Court that it cannot conduct the exam before August 3. This comes after the top court directed that the exam must be held in a single shift nationwide — unlike last year’s two-shift format.

Originally scheduled for June 15, the exam now needs fresh arrangements. And not just a few — we’re talking over 1,000 centres across 250+ cities, plus nearly 60,000 staff to manage everything from invigilation to security.

WHAT NBEMS TOLD THE COURT

In an affidavit, NBEMS said this time is essential for planning. They cited Tata Consultancy Services, their tech partner, saying the scale of the computer-based exam needs massive coordination. Roles to be filled include system operators, lab managers, registration staff, and electricians.

They also highlighted that NEET PG is a high-stakes exam. Any chances of malpractice need to be strictly avoided, which means help from law enforcement agencies and tighter centre controls.

WHY THE CHANGE?

The shift to a single session was triggered by a petition from United Doctors Front, arguing that different sessions could lead to unfairness. The Supreme Court agreed, saying holding it in multiple shifts could result in varying difficulty levels for candidates.

NBEMS has now proposed the August 3 date, with the exam set to be held from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, subject to the Court’s final nod.

WHAT NEXT FOR ASPIRANTS?

A final decision from the Supreme Court is awaited. Meanwhile, students are advised to check the official NBEMS website regularly for any updates regarding the new exam schedule.

NCDC Core Committee Demands Holistic Curriculum Reforms in All Levels of Education

NCDC Core Committee Demands Holistic Curriculum Reforms in All Levels of Education

Srinagar: In a landmark step towards educational overhaul, the National Child Development Council (NCDC) Core Committee has suggested a comprehensive resolution for revamping academic syllabi right from early childhood to professional courses. The resolution was placed on the table at the council’s recent core committee meeting, where its members expressed consensus support for incorporating newer generation technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and digital learning into the country’s curricula.

The session transcript began with a unanimous agreement: educational systems need to adjust to stay in tune with the new realities of a fast-paced technology-driven world. “We cannot rely entirely on teachers anymore,” said a member of the committee. “Learning does not just take place in the classroom anymore. Self-learning, online platforms, and interactive technologies need to contribute more in determining student knowledge, too.”

Members of the committee recognized that although some school curricula have started to incorporate courses such as robotics, a lot of institutions have yet to use old syllabi, instruction techniques, and examination systems in their vocational and professional courses.

“This is a timely and essential resolution,” according to one member, who continued, “The Alpha and Beta generation students are digital natives. Our strategy needs to address their mode of learning and future requirements.

A core committee member, stressed the necessity of change starting at the school level and then extending to university levels. “Teachers need to keep themselves updated continuously so students are prepared not only for exams, but also for life,” she added.

Another member noted that education and industry were drifting apart. “It’s still the case in many colleges that students are being taught out-of-date modules. Meanwhile, industries—particularly IT industries—are changing day by day. We need to provide a foundation to students from college itself in terms of how present-day technologies work,” she implored.

Baba Alexander, NCDC Master Trainer, emphasized the redundancy of the existing model of lectures and assignments. “Even in the education of doctors, students are not being introduced to robotic surgeries or advanced diagnostic equipment. The syllabus hasn’t caught up with actual practices,” he said. He urged a move away from strict, teacher-centric syllabi to a more comprehensive, technology-enabled and resource-based approach.

Members of the committee emphasized the need to provide students with access to online tools and AI-based platforms such as ChatGPT, allowing them to pursue independent learning from a young age. This would encourage autonomous thinking, flexibility, and greater interest in learning subject material.

The resolution also emphasized the importance of reform in the assessment process, pushing for ongoing and applied assessment models rather than conventional exam-based systems.

In conclusion, the NCDC core committee called upon governing and regulatory bodies—including university councils and professional education boards such as AICTE and medical councils—to take urgent steps toward updating curricula. “This is not just a reform—it’s a necessity,” said one member. “The future of our children depends on how well we prepare them today.”

Reservation committee to submit report before set deadline: Sakeena Itoo

Says steps underway to address doctor shortage, post creation under review

Bandipora, Jun 04 (KNO): Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo on Wednesday said that a reservation committee, constituted by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is examining all related representations and is expected to submit its report before the scheduled deadline.

Earlier, the 2024 reservation policy has sparked protests in Kashmir, where 69% of the population now competes for just 33% open merit seats.

Itoo while speaking to the media persons during her visit to Bandipora, said a reservation committee has been formed by the Chief Minister to examine the matter.

She said the representations received have already been reviewed, and the committee is expected to submit its report within the given timeframe.

Responding to issues related to the health sector, Itoo said that all doctors, who were earlier attached, have now been detached and sent back to their original postings.

She said there is a shortage of doctors in the region, and added that the government has taken steps to address the issue. “After this government was formed, the Chief Minister ordered the recruitment of 500 doctors, who have now been posted to remote areas,” she said.

Itoo added that while the shortage still exists, the government is working on a proposal to fill the remaining gaps in staffing.

She also said that the process of creation of new posts, which has been under a ban since 2007, is currently being examined. “The government will try to address this issue because there is a need. Where there is shortage, creation must take place. Inshallah, it will be done soon,” she said.

Regarding departmental shortages, the Minister said that any such issues will be verified and appropriate action will be taken. “If the sanctioned post exists at a certain place, the doctor will be sent back there,” she added.

The Minister said that the government is working on all fronts including detachment, recruitment, and post-creation to strengthen the healthcare system in Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
