CBSE Class 10 Second Board Exams 2026: Date Sheet Announced, Check Timetable & Guidelines

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially released the date sheet for the Class 10 second board examinations for 2026, bringing clarity for students preparing for the upcoming session. According to the announced schedule, the exams will begin on May 15, with Mathematics (Standard) and Mathematics (Basic) as the first papers. This second phase of board exams is part of CBSE’s new evaluation system aimed at giving students an additional opportunity to improve their scores.

All examinations will be conducted in a single shift, starting at 10:30 am and continuing until 1:30 pm for most subjects, while some papers will conclude earlier at 12:30 pm. The structured timing ensures uniformity and gives students adequate duration to complete their papers. Schools and exam centers are expected to follow standard guidelines issued by CBSE to maintain smooth conduct throughout the examination period.

The introduction of the two-board exam system marks a significant shift in CBSE’s assessment approach. Implemented from the 2026 academic session, this system allows students to reappear in up to three subjects to enhance their performance without waiting for an entire academic year. It is designed to reduce academic pressure and provide flexibility for students aiming for better results.

CBSE has also outlined clear eligibility criteria for students who can appear in the second board examination. These include students who appeared in at least three subjects in the first exam, those who passed but want to improve their marks, compartment category students, and candidates who replaced a subject with a sixth subject. Additionally, students from the previous year’s compartment category, those attempting improvement or additional chances, and eligible sports students are also permitted to appear.

However, certain students will not be eligible for the second board exams. These include candidates who failed or did not appear in three or more subjects in the first attempt. Students placed under the ER (Essential Repeat) category will also have to wait until the next academic cycle to reappear. CBSE’s structured eligibility rules aim to ensure fairness while offering deserving students a second chance to succeed.

CBSE 2nd Board Exam Datesheet: The Central Board of Secondary Education has released the date sheet for the Class 10 second board exams. The session two exams will commence on May 15, starting with Mathematics (Standard) and Mathematics (Basic). The exams will be held from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, while a few papers will conclude at 12:30 pm.

The two-board exam system was introduced by CBSE last year and is being implemented from the 2026 board exams. It allows students to improve their scores in up to three subjects.

  • Percentile shows your relative performance among candidates
  • It accounts for variation in difficulty across exam shifts
  • Same marks can result in different percentiles

BTech Admission Cutoffs for NITs & IIITs

While JEE Advanced is for IITs, JEE Main scores are used for:

  • NITs (National Institutes of Technology)
  • IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology)
  • GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes)

Safe Percentile for Top Colleges

  • Top NITs (CSE): 99+ percentile
  • Mid-tier NITs: 95–98 percentile
  • IIITs: 90–97 percentile
  • Lower NIT branches: 85–90 percentile

(These are indicative ranges based on trends and may vary yearly.)

Marks vs Percentile Insight

Mosques Lead Anti-Drug Crusade in Anantnag; Religious Call Amplifies Police Crackdown on Narcotics

Anantnag, Apr 22: In a powerful community-led push against the drug menace, mosques across Anantnag district echoed a strong call for a “war against drugs,” urging people to shun narcotics and help eradicate illegal cultivation.

During congregational gatherings and through loudspeaker announcements, Imams and mosque committees appealed to the general public to actively participate in the “war against drugs” and strictly refrain from engaging in or supporting any form of illegal crop cultivation, particularly narcotic substances such as cannabis and opium poppy.

The announcements emphasized the social, moral, and legal consequences of drug abuse and illicit cultivation, urging families and community members to remain vigilant and report any such activities to the authorities. The religious leaders also highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding the youth and preserving the social fabric of the district.

J&K Police have appreciated this proactive and responsible role played by the religious institutions, terming it as a strong example of police-public partnership. Private Schools Warned Against Forcing Costly Books; FFRC Cracks Down on Profiteering

Committee directs strict adherence to NCERT curriculum; violation may lead to de-recognition

Srinagar, Apr 22: The Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a strict circular directing private schools not to compel parents to purchase expensive books from private publishers, warning of stern action against violations.

As per the circular issued by April 17, 2026, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, complaints have been received that some schools are forcing parents to buy books costing around ₹3500, allegedly in nexus with private publishers to gain monetary benefits. The committee observed that such practices amount to profiteering and place an undue financial burden on parents.

The FFRC reiterated that as per guidelines of affiliating bodies including CBSE and JKBOSE, only NCERT-prescribed books are part of the approved curriculum, and private schools have no authority to enforce the purchase of additional costly material.

It further directed all private schools to strictly comply with these norms and submit compliance reports, failing which action including de-recognition may be initiated against institutions found violating the orders. — (KNC)
