FM Announces ₹1.48 Lakh Crore Budget for Education, Employment, and Skills Development

Budget provides Rs 1.48 lakh cr for education, employment, skill: FM

New Delhi, Jul 23: The Union Budget for 2024-25 will provide Rs 1.48 lakh crore for education, employment and skilling in the country.

Presenting the Budget in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said it will focus on employment, skilling, MSMEs and the middle class.

She added that the government has extended the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for five years which is benefiting 80 crore people of the country.

As mentioned in interim budget, there is a need to focus on poor, women, youth and farmers, the minister said.

She added that people have given unique opportunity to the Modi government to take India on the path of strong development, and all-round prosperity.–(PTI)

Fresh Weather Forecast for Jammu and Kashmir for the Next Few Days

Kashmir likely to get respite from heatwave with rain showers

Srinagar, Jul 23: Kashmir is expected to experience a mix of sunny and cloudy conditions with intermittent rain showers over the next few days, according to a weather forecast issued Tuesday by independent weather forecaster Kashmir Weather.

Temperatures across the region are expected to improve, with a slight chance of rain in the morning or late afternoon in Kashmir. The Jammu region is forecast to see a pause in rain by Tuesday night, with overnight showers possible for the next two days.

The weather service, as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust warned of a moderate risk of landslides and shooting stones on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

For pilgrims undertaking the Amarnath Yatra, the forecast predicts a mix of clouds and sun with a possibility of rain showers, but overall dry weather. Temperatures at the holy cave are expected to peak around 20 degrees Celsius and drop to 10 degrees Celsius at night. (KNT)

Directs concerned depts to launch ‘Ek Ped Shaheedo Ke Naam- paying respect to martyrs by planting trees’

Srinagar, Jul 22 (KNO): Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha Monday chaired a high-level meeting with the Deputy Commissioners, and senior officers of Civil and Police administration to review the preparations for Independence Day Celebration.

The meeting was attended by Sh Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; Sh Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Sh RR Swain, DGP; Sh Dheeraj Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, Ecology and Environment Department; Sh Chandraker Bharti, Principal Secretary Home Department; Administrative Secretaries; Divisional Commissioners; Deputy Commissioners, SSPs, HODs and senior officials of Security forces, Civil and Police Administration, in person and through virtual mode.

The Lt Governor directed the District Administrations and the line departments to ensure all arrangements for hassle- free and smooth conduct of the Independence Day events across the UT.

He emphasized the importance of all stakeholders working together to facilitate people’s active participation and meticulous planning of activities and events to honour freedom fighters, unsung heroes and the martyrs.

The Lt Governor directed for organising Swachhta Pakhwada from August 01 to August 14, 2024. He also directed the stakeholder departments to launch a 15-day campaign ‘Ek Ped Shaheedo Ke Naam’ at prominent public places and memorials.

“This campaign, paying respect to martyrs by planting trees, should become a mass movement, all over J&K UT. Every individual, family, eminent personalities from various walks of life must come together to make the campaign a success,” the Lt Governor said—(KNO)

Teachers and Parents Call for Adjusted School Hours or Extended Summer Break Amid Heatwave

Heatwave: Teachers, parents urge school timing change or add’l summer break

Srinagar, Jul 22 (KNO): With the persistent heatwave in Kashmir, teachers and parents on Monday urged the School Education Department to either adjust school timings or announce an additional summer break.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Teacher Association (JKTA) Hatim Qayoom said the persistent heatwave is affecting the studies badly and the concerned should consider the change in school timing in both rural and urban areas.

“Due to the extremely hot weather conditions, nowadays, students in schools are feeling low mostly from afternoon onwards. This is affecting their studies badly,” Qayoom said.

He requested the concerned authorities to take appropriate measures in this regard.

Meanwhile, a delegation of various fronts visited the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) in this regard.

Parents of the students have also urged the government either to change the timing of schools or extend the summer break.

One of the parents of a student, Manzoor Ahmad said the current weather conditions in Kashmir were not favourable for the students to attend the classes.

He however said that schooling is also important for students. “The government should either announce further summer vacations or shall change the timing of schools immediately,” he said.

Another parent said he has decided to keep his son back at home till the weather situation improves. “Nothing is more important than the health of my son. I can bear this loss but I can’t compromise the health of my child,” he said.

Pertinently, Kashmir Valley is reeling under intense heat waves and the MeT department has informed that the situation will almost remain the same for at least a week.

Director of School Education Kashmir Tassaduq Hussain Mir was not available for their comments.

Meanwhile, top officials of the School Education Department said that they were assessing the situation in this regard. “We will seek suggestions from the concerned stakeholders and will take a call accordingly,” the official said.

JKPSC Postpones Lecturer-I Automobile Engineering Interview

Srinagar, July 22, 2024 – The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) has announced the postponement of the interview for the post of Lecturer-I in Automobile Engineering in the Skill Development Department. The interview, initially scheduled for July 26, 2024, at the JKPSC office in Solina, Srinagar, is postponed until further notice.
