KU’s 2020 batch B.Ed students protest in Srinagar

Rehan Qayoom Mir

Srinagar, Sep 18 (KNO): The students of the B.ED 2020 batch Monday staged a protest against the University of Kashmir, demanding a separate examination or an extension of dates.

Scores of students gathered at Srinagar’s press enclave, holding placards in their hands, demanded justice.

The group of students, while speaking to the media, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), demanded a separate examination or an extension of dates.

“We are regular students, but our examination is being conducted through distance courses, and the problem is that distance students were issued a date sheet four months ago, while we received ours only four days ago. We have approached the university authorities many times, but they haven’t listened to our pleas,” said a female student.

“The distance students have had much more time to prepare, but we are being given just four days to appear in the examinations, which is sheer injustice,” the students said and demanded early redressal of their grievances—(KNO)

Backbone of conflict profiteers’ ecosystem in J&K dismantled: LG Sinha

Asks people to isolate those trying to disturb peace

Lays foundation stone of 125 bed hospital in Budgam

Naveed Ul Haq

Budgam, Sep 18 (KNO): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said that the administration is committed to make Jammu and Kashmir free of terrorism, saying they have been ‘successful in breaking the backbone of ecosystem of conflict profiteers’.

Addressing a huge public gathering after laying the foundation stone of a 125-bed hospital at Reshipora in Budgam, he according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that people should isolate those who are trying to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

“We salute our soldiers and police personnel who laid down their lives in combating terrorism. I assure the people that we will make J&K terror-free. This is our resolve,” he said.

According to LG Sinha, conflict profiteers who kept the people of J&K away from mainstream development, those who built their houses in foreign countries and sent their children abroad for studies think that they only have all the rights on government resources.

“We have been successful in breaking the backbone of ecosystem of conflict profiteers and will strike the last nail in the coffin of these subversive forces,” he said.

Sinha said that people should discharge their duties and contribute in the development of J&K.

“Development should become a powerful people’s movement in all 20 districts and the elements making efforts to disturb peace must be isolated by the society,” he added.

He said that security forces sacrificed their lives while fighting with terrorists for peace and happiness of people of Jammu and Kashmir. “If people want to see happy J&K, they need to identify the black sheep in their society who work behind the curtains to disrupt the peace of Jammu and Kashmir and save the society from black sheep. With your endeavour, we will succeed in this endeavour,” Sinha added.

He said that the much-awaited 125-bedded District Hospital Complex at a cost of Rs 49.32 crore at Reshipora will fullfill the demand and dream of people in Budgam.

“People’s health is the top priority of administration and this project is a testimony to our commitment to bring better health facilities to small towns, strengthening public health service delivery, minimizing inconvenience and referrals to tertiary health care centres in Srinagar,” he added.

The Lt Governor highlighted the efforts of the administration to establish transparent and responsive governance.

“We have traveled a long distance in the last three years in terms of speedy execution of projects within the stipulated period and eliminated the gap between the aspirations of people and the delivery by administration with dedication and commitment,” he said.

Highlighting the achievements of the administration, he said they are working to ensure electricity for 24 hours. But some people, according to him, are trying to get it without paying bill.

“We try to get in touch with every household so they may benefit from government health schemes. But some people want to block that Yojana. Some people are unhappy with the fact that we are attempting to reach out to those who are eligible for the Pradhanmantri Awas Yojna in order to fulfil their desire to live in their own home by giving them 5 Marla land,” he said.

Sinha said that some elements are unhappy with this initiative because they do not want happiness and change in the lives of ordinary people.

He reiterated that no outsider would get the land under the scheme. The LG said the administration, under the guidance of Prime Minister, is working diligently to ensure there is no scope for discrimination and corruption.

Highlighting the PM Vishwakarma scheme the LG said the scheme provides the benefits including toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000, training of artisans, Rs 500 per day during training, collateral-free credit support up to Rs 1 lakh (first tranche) and Rs 2 lakh (second tranche) at a concessional interest rate of 5%, incentive for digital transactions and marketing support, he said.

“J&K is the biggest beneficiary of the reformative schemes introduced by the central government in the last few years. We will make every effort to extend the benefits of this Scheme across the UT and transform the lives of the artisans and craftspeople of Jammu Kashmir working with their hands and tools,” he said.

“It will be ensured that the eligible beneficiaries are being identified at panchayat level, their ID cards are prepared at District level and the final list will be notified at UT level,” he added.

On the occasion, the Lt Governor lauded the public representatives and District Administration for commendable efforts to create smart facilities for the people and inspiring other districts as well to follow in their footsteps. “I am confident very soon the dream of Smart City Budgam will be realized,” he said.

He said the administration has also initiated the process of establishing Cluster University in Budgam.

LG in Budgam: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting earlier today to review the developmental scenario in the Budgam.

He appraised the sector-wise implementation progress of Centrally sponsored and the UT Government schemes and the developmental projects in the district.

Sinha directed the district administration to explore new opportunities for private investment in the hospitality sector to provide a boost to tourism and to facilitate new industries.

“Youth engagement and Education are another two key sectors which require dedicated focus by the district officials,” the Lt Governor observed while directing the Education department to prepare a roadmap to bring male-female literacy rate at par. The Banks were directed to provide necessary financial assistance for employment and livelihood generation programmes for youth and women.

He further emphasized on promoting Farmers Producers Organisation and exploring avenues for Cooperatives in all the sectors.

The Lt Governor impressed upon the officers to adopt a proactive approach and make dedicated efforts to identify the eligible beneficiaries under PM Vishwakarma and other such schemes.

The Lt Governor also sought the progress of Transit Accommodation for the employees in Budgam, and passed explicit direction for the completion of the project by October 2024.

The meeting also discussed the arrangements being made by different departments in view of Gandhi Jayanti. The Lt Governor called for active participation of officials and every section of the society in all the events.

Akshay Labroo, Deputy Commissioner Budgam gave a detailed overview of the development scenario in the district.

He also apprised the Lt Governor on the progress made under Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, Jal Jeevan Mission, Multi Dimensional Poverty Index- Ambitious Plan, Restoration of Heritage Sites etc.

The chair was apprised that 8342 farmers are registered on Daksh Portal in the district.

Earlier, the Lt Governor interacted with various public delegations and assured them of appropriate action on the genuine demands and issues projected by them.

Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Secretary, Forest, Ecology and Environment; Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lt Governor; Vijay Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Sujit Kumar, DIG CKR Srinagar and other senior officers attended the meeting—(KNO)
