JKBOSE postpone exams, new dates to be issued soon

Srinagar, Mar 20 (KNO): Hundreds of 12th standard students on Wednesday were left to lurch as JKBOSE distributed 11th standard question paper to the students during examination.

The news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) spoke to some of the examination in-charges and candidates appearing in the annual regular exams of class 12th who expressed concern about the lackadaisical approach of the Board authorities.

One of the students said that the exam pattern of the Physical Education was entirely different as was shown and notified by the Board.

“Ironically, only two marks were taken from the 12th standard syllabus. Rest of the question paper of 12th standard was set from 11th standard syllabus,” she said.

One of the examination in-charge said that students in the center were crying, while even a couple of students fainted.

Officials of JKBOSE said that they have postponed the exams and will issue a notification accordingly. “We got the information and we have decided to reschedule the exams. New dates will be issued soon,” the official said—(KNO)

Northern railway slashes ticket prices for Kashmir, restores pre-COVID fares

Srinagar, Mar 20: In a major relief to train commuters, Northern Railways has reduced ticket fares to pre-COVID times in the Kashmir valley, officials said on Wednesday.

A top railway official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that railways reinstated Second Class Ordinary Fares on passenger trains in Kashmir .

“The fare charges have been dropped by nearly 40-50%, reverting to pre-COVID levels,” he said, adding that previously, the ticket fare was Rs 35 from Sadura station to Srinagar, now it has been reduced to Rs 15.

Amid forecast for wet spell from March 21, night temp rises in Kashmir

Srinagar, March 20(GNS): Amid forecast for rains and snow on March 21-22, night temperature recorded a rise at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

While generally dry weather has been forecast during the next 24 hours, a meteorological department official here told GNS that there is possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at many places with thunder/lightning & gusty winds over plains of Kashmir and Jammu division from March 21-22.

On March 23, he said, weather is expected to be generally dry weather and on March 24, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected with light rain/snow at few places.

From March 25-26, he said, generally dry weather is expected while from March 27-28, weather is generally going to be partly to generally cloudy with possibility light rain/snow at few place.

Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a minimum of 4.2°C against 2.5°C on the previous night which was below normal by 0.5°C for the summer capital of JK for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 2.4°C against 2.2°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 1.1°C against minus 0.9°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C below normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 4.0°C against 3.8°C on the previous night and it was 0.5°C above normal, the official said.

Kupwara town recorded a low of 1.9°C against 1.5°C on the previous night and it was 1.2°C below normal there, the official said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 0.8°C against minus 1.0°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 1.5°C for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 14.6°C and it was below normal by 0.3°C for the winter capital of J&K.

Banihal recorded a low of 8.6°C, Batote 9.3°C and Bhaderwah 4.6°C, he said. (GNS)

School Education Department Demotes Teachers with Fake Degrees

Srinagar, Mar 19: The School Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has demoted two teachers, Anita Sharma and Raman Chanyal, who secured promotions using fraudulent postgraduate degrees, reverting them back to teaching roles.

Reports inform news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that an investigation revealed that both teachers had obtained postgraduate degrees in Chemistry from Magadh University in 2003, despite the university not offering such a course at the time. As a result, Anita Sharma, currently serving as the Principal of Higher Secondary School in Sarna, Samba, and Raman Chanyal, Principal of Higher Secondary School in Machhedi, Kathua, have been directed to resume their duties as teachers.

The disciplinary action comes after it was discovered that Sharma and Chanyal had advanced in their careers based on falsified academic credentials. Sharma was promoted to the position of in-charge lecturer in 2004, following which she was posted at Government Higher Secondary School in Mansar. However, her failure to provide original qualification documents led to the suspension of her allowances between 2004 and 2006.

Official reports divulged that the School Education Department issued an order on March 5, instructing the Chief Education Officers of Samba and Kathua districts to reassign Sharma and Chanyal to teaching roles. Both teachers have been directed to report to the office of the Chief Education Officer in their respective districts—(KNO)

PDD suspends 12 employees, initiates disciplinary proceedings

Srinagar, Mar 19: The government Tuesday suspended twelve employees of Power Development Department and initiated disciplinary proceedings against them.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Principal Secretary Power Development Department H Rajesh Prasad in this regard has issued suspension orders against 12 employees.

The suspension and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against five In-charge Assistant Executive Engineers (AEE’s), two Assistant Engineers (AE’s) and five Junior Engineers.

Prasad in different suspension orders of the employees of KPDCL and JPDCL said that the disciplinary proceedings under rule-33 of the J&K Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956 are contemplated against them.

Accordingly, the Principal Secretary therefore placed all the 12 employees under suspension with immediate effect.

“The suspended officers shall remain attached with the concerned Executive Engineers till further orders,” it reads—(KNO)
