Normalization of Scores to be Eliminated for CUET-UG as Exam Restructuring is in Progress, says UGC Chief

NTA Plans Hybrid Mode for CUET-UG with OMR Sheets and Computer-Based Test

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is considering a hybrid mode for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG, combining OMR sheets and computer-based tests, aiming for the exam’s third edition. The move aims to shorten the duration and provide equal opportunities for students across diverse locations.

UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar highlighted the possibility of conducting papers with high registrations in the OMR mode, facilitating the selection of numerous schools as test centers. This approach aims to offer students the convenience of taking the exam in their hometowns, reducing the need for extensive travel.

The proposed hybrid mode involves adopting pen-and-paper tests for subjects with substantial registrations and computer-based tests for less enrolled papers. This strategic approach intends to streamline the CUET-UG, eliminating the need for normalization of scores by conducting exams for each subject on a single day.

Chairman Kumar emphasized that the shift to OMR mode enables a vast number of centers at schools and colleges, enabling a nationwide test on the same day. This adjustment aligns with the goal of providing students with their preferred centers while avoiding the complexities of normalization.

In essence, the NTA’s considerations for a hybrid mode aim to enhance accessibility, minimize logistical challenges, and streamline the CUET-UG examination process, benefiting students from various geographical backgrounds.
