Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police Advisory for January 20, 2024

Passengers and light motor vehicle (LMV) operators are advised to travel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NHW) during the day. Avoid traveling at night due to the risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal. Heavy motor vehicle (HMV) operators and owners are requested to avoid overloading and carry sufficient fuel while traveling on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. They should also double-check the fitness of their vehicles before starting their journey. Only HMVs with 6 or 10 tires will be allowed to travel on the Dhar road.

Traffic Plan and Advisory for January 20, 2024: Subject to fair weather and clearance of the road, LMVs, passenger cars, HMVs, and load carriers will be allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44). Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline.

Security Forces Convoy Movement: Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces (SFs) vehicles will be allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44).

Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road: Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, vehicular movement on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road will be allowed from both sides. LMVs followed by HMVs will be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 8:30 am and 11:00 am. Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs will be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 12:30 pm and 3:30 pm. No vehicle will be allowed after the cut-off timings. SFs Convoy, plying from Srinagar to Kargil, will leave Srinagar at 8:00 am. SFs Convoy plying from Drass to Srinagar will plan their movement in such a manner so that Civil Traffic doesn’t get disturbed.

Mughal Road: Tomorrow, subject to fair weather and good road conditions, vehicular movement on Mughal road will be allowed from both sides. These vehicles will be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm after the green signal from road agencies.

Advisory:

People are advised to undertake the journey on NH-44 only after confirming the status of the road from Traffic control units.

MeT predicts rains, snow next week in Jammu and Kashmir

Night Temp Falls Further In J&K As Srinagar Records Minus 4.9°C

Srinagar, Jan 19 : Weatherman on Friday forecast light snow at isolated higher reaches on January 25 and light rain and snow over scattered places for subsequent two days in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Dry weather is likely to continue till January 24 with generally cloudy on 20th evening,” a meteorological department official.

On January 25, he said, light snow at isolated higher reaches was expected while from January 26-28, light rain and snow was expected over scattered places.

“As per indications of different models, there is possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at many places very likely from January 29-31,(Detailed information will be shared in coming days),” he said

The MeT department also forecast redevelopment of moderate to dense fog and fall in day temperature over Jammu Division during next three days.

Regarding minimum temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 4.9°C against minus 4.6°C on the previous night and it was 2.8°C below normal for the summer capital of J&K for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 5.0°C against minus 4.2°C on the previous night, he said. The minimum temperature was 1.7°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, the MeT official said.

Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 6.3°C against minus 5.8°C on the previous night and it was 0.9°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 1.4°C against minus 0.9°C on the previous night and the temperature was above normal by 2.5°C for the place, the official said.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.0°C against minus 4.5°C on the previous night and it was 1.9°C below normal there, the official said.

Gulmarg, the official said, recorded a low of minus 3.6°C against minus 4.5°C on the previous night and the temperature was 4.1°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir.

Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 5.0°C against 5.7°C on the previous night, and it was below normal by 2.1°C for the winter capital of J&K.

Banihal recorded a low of minus 0.8°C, Batote minus 1.7°C and Bhaderwah minus 0.4°C, he said.

Kashmir valley is under ‘Chillai-Kalan’, the 40-day harsh period of winter, which will end on January 29. However it does not mean an end to the winter. It is followed by a 20-day-long period called ‘Chillai-Khurd’ that occurs between January 30 and February 19 and a 10-day-long period ‘Chillai-Bachha’ (baby cold) which is from February 20 to March 1(GNS).

The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) in Kashmir is embarking on an exciting research project aimed at enhancing the nutritional content of hydroponically grown tomatoes and lettuce. The project, titled “Biofortification of hydroponically grown tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) with thiamine and zinc alone or in combination and their validation in animal counterpart,” is funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, DST New Delhi.

The focal point of this three-year project is the cultivation of tomatoes and lettuce through hydroponics, a soilless cultivation method. Researchers at SKUAST Kashmir will be specifically focusing on fortifying these crops with thiamine and zinc, either individually or in combination. Thiamine, also known as Vitamin B1, plays a crucial role in energy metabolism, while zinc is essential for various physiological functions, including immune system support.

The ultimate goal of this endeavor is to create crops with heightened nutritional value, contributing to a healthier and more balanced diet for consumers. The research is not only significant for addressing nutritional deficiencies but also aligns with broader agricultural innovations.

JKSSB Matric Level Posts Document Verification

The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has withdrawn a notice issued on January 16, 2024 regarding the supplementary document verification for Matric Level Posts. The notice was issued vide Notification No: JKSSB-COE0EXAM(UT)/88/2023-03 (7314392).

A new date for the document verification will be notified separately.

The JKSSB is the government agency responsible for recruiting for non-gazetted posts in the Jammu and Kashmir government. The board conducts written examinations and interviews for these posts.

The withdrawal of the notice is likely to cause inconvenience to candidates who were preparing for the document verification. However, the JKSSB has not given any reason for the withdrawal of the notice.

It is important to note that the JKSSB website is the only official source of information about recruitment to non-gazetted posts in the Jammu and Kashmir government. Candidates are advised to regularly check the website for updates.

Gas Pipeline to Kashmir: Regulatory Body initiates bidding process to lay 325-Km gas pipeline

Proposed pipeline to originate from Gurdaspur-Jammu gas pipeline’s termination point

Srinagar, Jan 19 (KNO): In a significant move, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has commenced a bidding process for laying 325-kilometre long Jammu-Srinagar gas pipeline.

Documents accessed by news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reveal that the Board has invited bids for grant of authorization for laying, building, operating or expanding Jammu-Srinagar natural gas pipeline with an initial system capacity of at least 2.0 MMSCMD including common carrier capacity.

The bids were invited on January 12, 2023, the documents show.

In a move aimed at catering to the natural gas requirements in J&K, the PNGRB had last year initiated a suo-motu proposal for development of the Jammu-Srinagar natural gas pipeline. After completion of public consultation process and based on discussions with the entities/stakeholders during the open house discussions, PNGRB had decided to invite online application-cum-bid for authorization to develop Jammu-Srinagar natural gas pipeline spanning about 325 kilometre with minimum system capacity of at least 2.0 MMSCMD including common carrier capacity during the entire economic life.

The proposed gas pipeline shall originate from the termination point of GAIL (India) Limited’s Gurdaspur-Jammu Natural Gas Pipeline.

“GAIL’s pipeline shall also act as a source for the proposed Jammu- Srinagar Natural Gas Pipeline,” the documents state.

According to documents, the spur-lines shall be provided by the authorized entity as per the customer’s requirement en-route the pipeline in line with the provisions of the relevant regulations.

IUST Announces Admissions for Postgraduate Programs Through CUET-PG 2024

The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Kashmir has announced admissions for various postgraduate programs for the 2024 academic session. Admissions will be based on the candidate’s performance in the Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate Programs (CUET-PG) 2024.

Programs offered include M.Sc. Statistics, Master of Computer Applications, M.Sc. Information Technology, M.Tech Food Technology, M.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc. Physics, M.A. Political Science, M.A. Arabic Language & Literature, M.A. English Language & Literature, M.A. Economics, M.A. International Relations, M.A. Journalism & Mass Communication, M.A. Islamic Studies, Master of Business Administration, and MBA-International Business.

Candidates need to appear for the specific CUET-PG 2024 test paper code mentioned against each program. The last date to submit the online application form for CUET-PG 2024 is January 24, 2024. IUST has released a detailed notification regarding the admissions process on its official website www.iust.ac.in.

The announcement was made through a notification issued by the Office of the Dean Academic Affairs, IUST on January 19, 2024. With IUST adopting the national level CUET-PG entrance exam, admissions to postgraduate programs will now be based on a standardized test score.

Jammu, January 19 (KSA): The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has announced that it will be issuing admit cards for the OMR based written examination for the post of Accounts Assistant, Finance Department. The exam is scheduled to be held on January 28, 2024.

In a notice, the JKSSB informed that the admit cards will be made available on the official website www.jkssb.nic.in from January 22, 2024 onwards. Candidates can download the admit cards using their email ID and date of birth.

The JKSSB has advised candidates to read the instructions on the admit card carefully. In case of any issues related to downloading the admit card, candidates can contact the JKSSB Help Desk at 0191-2461335 (Jammu)/ 0194-2435089 (Srinagar) or email helpdesk.jkssb@gmail.com between January 22-28, 2024 during office hours.

The notice further states that there will be negative marking for wrong answers attempted in the exam. Candidates have been advised to keep checking the official JKSSB website for latest updates as admit cards will not be sent by post (Kashmir Student Alerts)

Srinagar: Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Pre-Matric Scholarships for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students studying in classes IX and X is implemented by the Department of Social Welfare, Jammu and Kashmir. The scheme aims to support SC/ST students to complete their secondary education and reduce the dropout rate.

Eligibility:

  • The scholarship is awarded to SC/ST students whose parents/guardians’ income does not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakhs per annum.
  • Students should be enrolled in class IX and X in a government school or a school recognized by the government or a central board.
  • Students should not be receiving any other scholarship for studying in classes IX and X.

Scholarship Components:

The scholarship provides a maintenance allowance of Rs. 250 per month for day scholars and Rs. 500 per month for hostellers.

NSP Post Matric Scholarship 2024 Jammu Kashmir

  • it also provides reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees charged by the school, subject to a ceiling of Rs. 1500 per annum.
  • An additional allowance of Rs. 500 per annum is paid as an escort allowance for severely disabled students.

  • Students can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at scholarships.gov.in.
