Meet Masrat Bashir, who etched her name in KU’s Cricket Team

Bandipora, Nov 11: Breaking gender stereotypes, Masrat Bashir, a 20-year-old B.A student from Malangam village in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, has etched her name in the Women’s cricket team of Kashmir University after qualifying trials conducted by the Varsity.

Masrat stands out as the lone player from Hassan Khoyhamia Degree College Bandipora among the ten women cricket team players who underwent trials. Belonging from the Malangam village of Bandipora district some eight km’s away from district headquarters the village where mostly the Gujjar tribe resides.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by girls in rural areas, she expressed gratitude to her college authorities and her father for their unwavering support.

Speaking with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Masrat said that the college authorities have supported her a lot in achieving a spot in women cricket of Kashmir university. Her aspirations extend beyond university accolades, aiming to don the jersey of team India in the future.

“People said what they want, whom you control if someone has to achieve big hard work, commitment and dedication is the key,” she said.

She emphasized the role of hard work and commitment in achieving success in any field. Her fellow teammate, Iqra, while congratulating Master’s performance, attributed it to relentless dedication.

She also highlighted the transformative power of sports, particularly for girls, as a deterrent against the looming menace of drug addiction.

The women’s cricket team of GDC Bandipora, under Masrat’s leadership, has already made a mark in the inter-college women’s tournament conducted by Kashmir University, securing a spot in the semi-finals.

Her journey exemplifies the triumph of determination and the breaking down of barriers, paving the way for more aspiring talents in the realm of women’s cricket.

In a message to girls, Masrat stressed the importance of staying connected to sports for both physical and mental well-being.

TRAFFIC POLICE HEADQUARTERS, J&K, JAMMU/SRINAGAR
1. From 10-11-2023, 1700 hrs. to 11-11-2023, 1700 hrs., Jammu-Srinagar NHW remained blocked for 05 hrs 30 mins due to mudslide/slush/shooting stones at Dalwas and Mehad. Slow movement was observed on NH-44 due to breakdown of 02 HMVs, Nomadic flocks and poor surface condition of road at Dalwas and single lane traffic at Cafeteria-Mehad, Magerkote, Nachlana between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel.

2. Passengers/LMVs operators are advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during day time. Please avoid journey during night hours as movement of nomads from Kashmir valley towards Jammu may cause inconvenience to the commuters.
3. HMVs Operators/Owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW. It is further requested that vehicle owners must double check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW.

4. HMVs with only 06 and 10 tyres shall be allowed to ply through Dhar road.

TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 12-11-2023:-
Subject to fair weather and good road condition, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars/HMVs/Load Carriers shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline.

*SFs Convoy Movement:-*
Subject to fair weather and good road condition, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.

*SSG ROAD*
Subject to fair weather and good road condition, vehicular movement on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road shall be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 0730 hrs. to 1100 hrs. Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1300 hrs to 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings.
*SFs Convoy, plying from Srinagar to Kargil, shall leave Srinagar at 0800 hrs. SFs Convoy plying from Drass to Srinagar shall plan their movement in such a manner so that Civil Traffic doesn’t get disturbed.

Mughal Road:-
Subject to fair weather and good road condition, vehicular movement on Mughal road shall be allowed from both sides viz. Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) between 0600 hrs. to 1800 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut of timings

Rule violations: Staff on academic arrangements assigned administrative posts in newly established GMCs

Srinagar, Nov 11 (KNO): Government rules are reportedly being violated in the newly established Government Medical Colleges, as staff engaged in academic arrangements are being assigned administrative posts, while deserving candidates are forced to work under them.

Top health officials informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that when new medical colleges were established in Jammu and Kashmir, there was a shortage of doctors and other paramedics. To address this gap, the government decided to give retired doctors and paramedics an opportunity to serve on academic arrangements.

In this context, the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department issued a notification in January 2019 – SRO 24 of 2019. It strictly directed that retired doctors engaged in academic arrangements should not hold any administrative post.

The notification states, “Staff engaged in teaching posts shall be put on teaching and research duties and shall not be assigned any administrative duties at any level, such as the positions of Principal, Head of the Department, and Head of the Unit.”

However, in violation of these orders, staff engaged in academic arrangements have been holding administrative posts in these medical colleges.

At GMC Anantnag, Dr Sheikh Mushtaq, who was engaged in academic arrangements, is holding the administrative post of the head of the Department of Pediatrics, while the deserving candidate, Associate Professor Dr Showkat Hussain Tali, is being forced to work under the one engaged under academic arrangements.

Official sources reveal that Dr Showkat Hussain has even approached the court regarding this matter and is awaiting justice. They said the differences between the two doctors are affecting patients, students and other staff.

“Higher-ups are aware of such issues, but no positive steps have been taken,” they said.

They have urged the immediate attention of the Chief Secretary and Secretary Health and Medical Education to ensure that deserving staff promotions are not affected and that staff engaged in academic arrangements do not hold any administrative posts.

If the government implements its own orders, it will contribute to the improvement of healthcare facilities and ensure that patients and students do not suffer due to such internal conflicts—(KNO)

Srinagar, Nov 11 (KNO): Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Tassaduq Hussain Mir Saturday said that the department has not any inbuilt heating facilities in government schools, however was providing coal chimneys to all those schools who have asked for it.

DSEK said this on the sidelines of the Annual Day function organised by Government Boys Higher Secondary School Zainakout on Srinagar outskirts.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) exclusively, Mir said, “We encourage such events so that we will have an idea about the talent of our students and the hard-work of our teachers.”

He said: “At the end of the academic year, we try to explore the things which were conducted by the institutions so that students and teachers will be encouraged.”

The director further said that the department used to have fewer institutional days. “But after 30 years, we had 220 academic days in the previous year and that has empowered us to conduct such events as per the NEP.”

He said, “We don’t have inbuilt heating systems but we have placed coal Chimneys wherever required. We have already provided available heating facilities to all those who have asked for it.”

Asked about the winter break in the hilly and snow bound areas, DSEK said, “There are no special provisions for hilly and terrain areas to announce winter vacations but we monitor the weather situations out there so that we can take call accordingly.”

On the untrained ReT teachers in the department, Mir said, “Maximum of our ReTs are trained and others are enhancing their qualifications. Infact as of now, the National awardee of Jammu Kashmir from the education department is a ReT teacher.”

Meanwhile, DSEK and principal of the school released a school magazine of BHSS Zainakote, Srinagar.

The teachers of the school said that it has collaborated with the department of wildlife and wetland for the collective response for the Hokersar cleaning campaign.

Principal of the school, Ali Mohammad Rather appreciated the students and its faculty for their performances.

“I have faith in my students and teachers. I am pretty optimistic that they have been and will be bringing laurels to the school,” he said—(KNO)

Pulwama, Nov 11 (KNO): An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Parigam village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday, police said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation following information about the presence of terrorists in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, terrorists fired upon them, which was retaliated to, triggering an encounter.

As per the sources, two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area—(KNO)
