ACB traps HC Police Station Kathua, flees spot, accused at large

Kathua, Jun 14: Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday said to have trapped a Head Constable of Police Station Kathua for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 15,000.

As per a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging therein that a public servant namely HC Roshan Din, No. 432/K of Police Station Kathua who is investigating the case FIR No. 193/2025 registered at Police Station Kathua demanded illegal gratification from the complainant on account of deleting/removing his name from the list of accused persons in the said case, even though he provided CCTV footage/attendance in the factor on the date of occurrence in order to prove his innocence.

“The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant for deleting his name from case FIR No. 193/2025 registered at Police Station Kathua. After negotiation, the accused agreed to take a bribe amount of Rs 15,000 from the complainant,” the statement reads.

Since, the complainant didn’t want to pay the bribe and he approached the Anti Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servant under law, it reads.

“On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirms the demand of bribe by the public servant concerned and accordingly, a case FIR No. 12/2025 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered in Police Station ACB Jammu and investigation taken up,” the statement added.

During the course of investigation, a trap team headed by Gazetted rank officer was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servant after accepting bribe amount of Rs 15000 from the complainant, sensing the presence of ACB on spot, fled away from the spot and threw the tainted bribe money in the bushes on the NHW near Palli, it added.

“The tainted bribe money was recovered from the bushes by independent witnesses and seized in the instant case,” it reads, adding that the search was also conducted in the residential house of the accused in the presence of magistrate and independent witnesses. LG Manoj Sinha Reviews Multi-Agency Security Preparedness for Upcoming Amarnath Yatra

Focus on Seamless Coordination & Foolproof Arrangements for Pilgrims’ Safety

Srinagar, Jun 13 (JKNS): The Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials to review the security arrangements for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

The meeting was attended by Shri Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Shri Nalin Prabhat, DGP J&K; Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, GoC 15 Corps; Shri S.J.M Gillani, Special Director General (Coordination), PHQ; Shri Pankaj Thakur, Joint Director IB; Shri Nitish Kumar, ADGP CID J&K; Shri Rajesh Kumar, ADG CRPF; Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, CEO SABS and Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor; Shri Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Shri Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Shri VK Birdi, IGP Kashmir; Shri Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Jammu; senior officials of Police, Army, CAPFs and Intelligence Agencies.

The Lieutenant Governor took a comprehensive review of the security apparatus and measures deployed by the security agencies to ensure safety of the pilgrims.

He directed for seamless coordination among the Civil Administration, Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, J&K Police, Army, Security Forces, and all the other crucial stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and successful holy pilgrimage.

The Lieutenant Governor reviewed the working of the security grid and various significant steps being taken by Army, CAPFs and J&K Police to ensure foolproof security for the Yatra.

The Lieutenant Governor also reviewed the contingency plan, deployment of Police and security personnel, preparedness and response mechanism of line departments and emphasized on better coordination among all stakeholders involved in yatra management.

Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor gave an overview of the Yatra arrangements and key measures taken to further enhance the facilities and services for pilgrims and smooth conduct of Yatra. (JKNS)

Strongly urges Chief Minister to reform PDD functioning, fulfill promise of making electricity cheaper, take measures to provide 200 units of free electricity

Srinagar, Jun 12: Random increase by 200 rupees on electricity bills is injustice to people and needs to be rectified. People have been expecting electricity at cheaper rates given the promises and repeated assurances made to them before and after the elections, especially after the formation of the Govt.

It is astonishing that despite ensuring electricity on cheaper rates as was expected, the PDD department which is under the direct control of the Chief Minister is overcharging fees against the usage, violating the agreement between the consumer and the department (PDD), which cannot be justified. There is a need to reform PDD, for that matter, Congress Party seeks immediate indulgence of CM Omer Abdullah, who promised 200 units free to the poor consumers when elected to power. After failing to come upto the expectations of the people on this count, people are feeling betrayed leading to the disillusionment. The overcharging of electricity fee has contributed to further economic burden on consumers.

Congress Legislature Party Leader and AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmad Mir made these comments while reacting to the random increase of 200 rupees on electricity bills in Kashmir and elsewhere in J&K, as reported from various districts.

One fails to understand that despite ensuring supply of electricity on cheaper rates besides promises with regard to providing 200 units free as was promised, the unnecessary economic burden is being put on the consumers forcing them to pay extra charges which is against the violation of the agreement, Mir added and sought immediate indulgence of Chief Minister while strongly urging him to rectifying the overcharging process which is being unleashed by the PDD for unknown reasons, regretting that this is not the first time that PDD has randomly over charged the consumers, rather such unnecessary increase has been meted out to people multiple times during the last one year.

Govt must realize that people are under stress due to the economic crisis, so the unnecessary overcharging against electricity usage sans logic, cannot be justified, Mir rued, reiterating that the Govt is required to provide 200 units of free electricity to poor, besides roll back the unnecessary increase of 200 rupees on electricity bills.
