Northern Railways begins commercial operations of Vande Bharat train between Katra and Srinagar

Jammu, Jun 8: The Northern Railways on Saturday commenced commercial operations of Vande Bharat trains between Katra and Srinagar, officials said.

The Vande Bharat express train, which was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Katra on June 6, connects Kashmir with the rest of the country through rail.

Passengers who boarded the trains from Katra to Baramulla, or vice versa, expressed immense enthusiasm, with many stating they had eagerly awaited the opportunity to travel to Kashmir by train.

The first day of commercial operations went smoothly, as the trains reached their destinations by the evening, officials said.

They added that public excitement was high, with most of the seats booked within hours of the train’s inauguration.

According to Northern Railway, two Vande Bharat train sets made four trips during the day between Katra and Srinagar.

They said the train has two travel classes — Chair Car (CC) and Executive Class (EC) — with tickets priced at Rs 715 and Rs 1,320, respectively.–(PTI)

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE) has officially extended the last date for physical submission of documents by eligible candidates from UT of J&K and Ladakh who have appeared in NEET MDS 2025 under the All India Quota.

This extension is applicable only to those candidates:

  • Who have appeared in NEET MDS-2025.
  • Belong to the Union Territories of J&K or Ladakh.
  • Whose roll numbers do not appear in Annexure-A of the earlier notification (No. 052-BOPEE of 2025).
  • And are willing to participate in the counselling process for MDS seats in J&K.

Important Instructions:

All relevant documents must be submitted physically by the extended deadline. The rest of the terms and conditions remain unchanged and are as per the earlier notification and the e-Information Brochure.

Candidates are advised to act promptly and ensure their documents are submitted at the designated office of JKBOPEE before the deadline to be considered for the counselling process..

National Testing Agency, NTA has released UGC NET June 2025 exam schedule. Candidates who have registered for the examination can check the exam timetable through the official website of UGC NET at ugcnet.nta.ac.in.

The UGC NET June examination will begin on June 25 and will end on June 29, 2025. The exam will be held in two shifts- first shift from 9 am to 12 noon and second shift from 3 pm to 6 pm.

The Test paper will consist of two sections, both of which will consist of objective-type, multiple-choice questions. There will be no break between the papers. Paper I will comprise 100-mark questions, and Paper II will comprise 200-mark questions. The medium of the Question Paper shall be English and Hindi only, except for language papers. Candidates are required to answer in the medium as per the option exercised in the Application Form.

JKBOSE Issues Notice to Schools Regarding Extension of Affiliation – Submit Pending Documents Within 15 Days

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), Rehari Colony, Jammu, has issued an important notice concerning the schools that applied for Extension of Affiliation.

As per the official communication, a UT Level Affiliation Committee meeting was held on 01 July 2024 to evaluate the applications for Extension of Affiliation. During the meeting, it was observed that certain school cases were impacted by SO 177. These schools were granted conditional extension, subject to submission of lease deeds in favour of the sponsors and fulfillment of other necessary compliances.

While several schools have responded by submitting the required documents and deficiencies, enabling processing of their affiliation orders, a number of schools are yet to comply with the set conditions. Their cases remain on hold due to non-submission of required documents.

JKBOSE has now notified these defaulting schools—listed in Annexure “A”—to submit the pending deficiencies within 15 days from the date of issuance of this notice. Failure to do so will result in further action in accordance with the rules governing school affiliations.

Dy. Forester, Forest Guard Caught Taking Rs 11,000 Bribe by ACB

Srinagar, June 5 (JKNS): The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday trapped and arrested a Deputy Forester and a Forest Guard red-handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹11,000 from a complainant in Kalidhar Forest Range.

Spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, ACB received a complaint alleging therein that public servants namely Surinder Kumar, posted as B.O (Deputy Forester) in the Range Office, Kalidhar, Block Chowki Choura (now under transfer) and Kewal Krishan, then posted as Forest Guard with the said Dy. Forester (now posted at Forest Check Post Bridge, Akhnoor), demanded illegal gratification for release of additional CDR., it reads.

The accused persons had demanded a bribe of ₹14,000 from the complainant for release of additional CDR, which was deposited by the complainant during the execution of the work namely “Construction of 126 Boundary Pillars in Compartment No. 12/K, Nada Chargiyal Forest, Kalidhar Forest Range” allotted in reference to e-NIT No. 27 of 2024-25 dated 07-11-2024 of Forest Department, it reads.

After negotiation, the accused public servants have agreed to take bribe amount of Rs 11,000/- (Rs 3000/- for the Dy. Forester and rest of the amount for Forest Guard) from the complainant for doing the needful. Since, the complainant didn’t want to pay bribe and he approached Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servants under law, it reads.

On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirms the demand of bribe by the public servants concerned and accordingly, a case FIR No. 11/2025 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and section 61(2) BNS, 2023 was registered in Police Station ACB Jammu and investigation taken up, statement reads.

During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servants were caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of ₹11,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses. The accused persons were arrested on the spot by the ACB team after following due process of law., it reads.

The bribe money was also recovered from their possession in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team. Moreover, searches are also being conducted in the residential houses of both the accused in presence of independent witnesses and Magistrates, it reads.

Srinagar, June 06 (KNO): A 30-year-old man from Srinagar lost his life and four others sustained injuries late Thursday night in an accident on Boulevard Road here.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Danish Ahmed of Harwan died after suffering critical injuries when two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK01AQ-9509 and JK05K-4404 had an head on collission near Nehru Park.

Other injured were identified as Parvais Mir, son of Mohammad Afzal, resident of Baramulla; Amir Wani, son of Abdul Rashid Wani, resident of Bandipora; Yasir Ahmad Khan, son of Abdul Hamid, resident of Pattan; and Abid Hassan, son of Ghulam Hassan, resident of Wahdatpora Budgam.

They are undergoing treatment in the hospital and their condition is stable, the official added.
