Jammu, Mar 19 (KNO): Out of 86 non-standard samples of pesticides and fertilizers found in J&K, 85 were found in Kashmir Valley.

These details were disclosed by the Jammu & Kashmir Government in Legislative Assembly on Wednesday in response to a starred question by MLA Sonawari, Hilal Akbar Lone.

The minister in-charge Horticulture Javaid Ahmad Dar, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) informed the House that out of 86 samples of pesticides and fertilisers found non-standard in the Union Territory, 85 were found in Kashmir Valley and one in Jammu.

These details shows that substandard pesticides and fertilisers are found in abundance in Kashmir where a large chunk of people earns their livelihood from horticulture.

According to the minister’s reply, 57 samples of pesticides in Kashmir were found non-standard in Kashmir and one in Jammu.

Similarly, the minister said that 27 samples of fertilisers were found non-standard in Kashmir and none in Jammu.

In total, 4075 samples of pesticides and fertilisers were collected in Jammu and Kashmir for testing in 2024-25.

Of which, 2912 were found standard and 86 non-standard, the government said,adding that reports of 1045 samples were awaited—(KNO)

Srinagar, Mar 19 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a high-level committee to address the long-pending issue of regularizing casual, seasonal, and other temporary workers across the Union Territory.

The move comes as a step toward providing job security to thousands of workers engaged in various government departments.

According to an official order, a copy of which is in possession of the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), states that the committee will be chaired by the Chief Secretary and will include senior officials from the Finance, Planning, Law, and General Administration Departments.

“The panel is mandated to examine the humanitarian, legal, and financial aspects of worker regularization and propose a comprehensive framework for implementation,” the order states.

“The committee will consist of Chief Secretary, Chairman, Additional Chief Secretary, Member, Administrative Secretary, Finance Department Member, Administrative Secretary, General Administration Department Member, Administrative Secretary, Planning, Development & Monitoring Department Member, Administrative Secretary, Department of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Member,” it states.

“The General Administration Department (GAD) will provide secretarial support, and the committee is expected to submit its report within six months. It also has the flexibility to co-opt additional members if needed. The issue of casual and seasonal workers’ regularization has been a long-standing demand in J&K, with thousands of workers engaged in public works, agriculture, education, and municipal services awaiting a structured employment policy,” the order reads—(KNO)

SBI INTERNSHIP 2025: ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has announced the results for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2025). Candidates who appeared in the exam can visit the official  website of GATE 2025 to check the results. GATE 2025 results are hosted at https://goaps.iitr.ac.in/login
Applicants will be required to enter their enrollment number, password and an arithmetic expression to check the results.

Scorecards will be available for free download from March 28 to May 31. Beyond this period, candidates will be required to pay a fee of Rs 500 per test paper to download their scorecards. IIT Roorkee conducted the GATE 2025 on February 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025.

The exam is conducted to evaluate candidates’ knowledge in various undergraduate-level disciplines. Qualified candidates with a good score will be able to pursue Master’s and Doctoral programmes, potentially with financial aid. No ration halted to BPL families due to verification concerns: J&K Govt

Srinagar, Mar 19 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday denied any stoppage of ration to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families due to verification issues.

In response to a query by MLA Mir Saifullah, the government, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) stated that all eligible households are receiving their entitled food grains under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and at subsidised rates under the Non-Priority Household (NPHH) category.

Minister in charge, department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs said that no ration has been halted due to verification-related concerns.

“All eligible households/beneficiaries are getting food grains as per their entitlement/approved scales, free of cost under NFSA and at highly subsidized rates under the NPHH group,” he said—(KNO)

Govt to take up establishment of FMGE exam centres in Kashmir with GoI

Srinagar, Mar 19 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said that it will take up the matter of establishing Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) centers in Baramulla, Anantnag, and Srinagar with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Minister I/C Health & Medical Education Department, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), confirmed that the matter would be taken up with the relevant central ministry.

The minister responsed to query raised by MLA Dr. Sajad Shafi, who sought clarification on whether the government would push for the establishment of FMGE examination centers in these locations to facilitate aspiring foreign medical graduates from the region.

Notably, the demand for local examination centers has been a long-standing request from Kashmiri medical graduates who complete their studies abroad.

Currently, the students from Kashmir are required to travel to centres in Samba, Noida, or Amritsar to appear for the FMGE, causing logistical and financial difficulties—(KNO)
