MES Recruitment Scam Busted, 5 Accused Arrested in Kupwara

Kupwara, Sep 5 (GNS): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said to have busted a recruitment scam in Military Engineering Services (MES) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“In a significant breakthrough, the Kupwara Police has successfully dismantled a fraudulent recruitment scheme preying on the aspirations of young job seekers. On September 1, 2023, one Mumtaz Ahmad Mir, residing in Gund Zonareshi Chowkibal, lodged a formal complaint with the Kralpora Police Station, alleging that his son, Mohd Sami Mir, had fallen victim to a recruitment scam orchestrated by a person namely Nazir Ahmad Khan, a resident of Doolipora Trehgam. The complainant asserted that his son had been swindled of Rs. 70,000 under the false pretense of securing employment within the Military Engineering Service (MES), accompanied by a counterfeit appointment letter”, reads a statement issued to GNS.

“Responding swiftly to this complaint and supported by credible intelligence from the Military Intelligence (MI), the Kralpora Police Station initiated legal proceedings by registering FIR No. 76/2023. This FIR encompasses pertinent sections of the law, marking the commencement of a thorough investigation.”

“During the investigative process, statements from key witnesses were recorded, and counterfeit appointment letters were seized as evidence. Nazir Ahmad Khan was subsequently apprehended in connection with the scam. Further revelations unfolded as the accused disclosed his affiliation with a group of scammers employing a distinctive modus operandi to defraud unemployed youths eagerly seeking positions within MES. Additionally, he divulged the identities of his four collaborators as Zahoor Ahmad Mir, resident of Rawathpora, Shakeel Ahmad Makroo, resident of Awantipora, Feroz Ahmad Khashu, resident of Shaltang Srinagar and Shafkat Ahmad Shah, resident of Pampore Pulwama”, reads the statement.

“Utilizing the evidence at hand, special police teams dedicated to this case swiftly apprehended all four individuals. Notably, Shakeel Ahmad Makroo emerged as the mastermind, operating under the alias “Raju,” presenting himself as an influential Kashmiri Pandit and an MES officer stationed at Rangreth Srinagar. He enlisted the assistance of Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Feroz Ahmad Khashu, and Nazir Ahmad Khan as field agents, entrusted with the task of extracting money from unsuspecting job seekers, promising them MES positions. Shafkat Ahmad Shah, the technical expert of the operation, was responsible for fabricating and printing counterfeit appointment letters and other documentation. He operated from the “Helpline advertising agency” in Rangreth Srinagar, where he manufactured these fraudulent documents”, reads the statement.

“As of now, the gang has duped approximately eight innocent unemployed youths hailing from North Kashmir, amassing an illicit sum of roughly Rs. 25 lakhs. Substantial evidence, including counterfeit appointment letters, gate passes, laptops, desktops, printers, and cellphones, have been seized from the possession of the accused. The investigation remains ongoing, with expectations of additional arrests and further financial recoveries as the case unfolds.”

Board Exams Twice a Year from 2024 Onwards: FULL Details Here

The National Curriculum Framework 2023 (NCF 2023) has proposed major changes to the CBSE & state board exams in India, starting from 2024. These include holding board exams twice a year instead of once a year, doing away with the traditional science, commerce, and humanities streams, and specifying how board exams should evolve in the next 10 years, with a focus on making them more competency-based and less focused on rote learning, making the board exams easier from 2024 onwards among others. Read More: CBSE 10th Board Exam 2024

The NCF 2023 aims to make the Indian education system more student-centric and holistic, and these changes to the board exams are a step in that direction. By holding Board Exams twice a year, students will have more opportunities to demonstrate their learning, and by doing away with the traditional streams, students will be free to choose subjects that interest them and that are relevant to their future goals. The focus on competency-based assessment will also help to ensure that students are learning the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in life.

Board Exams Twice a Year: What Does it Mean?

The National Curriculum Framework 2023 proposes that school boards hold board exams twice a year instead of once a year. This will allow students to take the exam twice and retain their best score. The NCF believes that this will reduce the pressure on students and give them a chance to improve their performance.

The NCF recommends that board exams be held twice a year to mitigate the impact of a single day’s underperformance. This would give students the opportunity to improve their scores and demonstrate their knowledge and skills over a longer period of time.

The NCF’s proposal to hold two board exams in a year is a step towards making the assessment process more fair and equitable for all students. It would also reduce the stress and anxiety associated with board exams, and allow students to focus on learning rather than just passing the test.

Other Changes Proposed by NCF 2023

The National Curriculum Framework 2023 has also proposed various other changes that can significantly impact the students and the school education system in India. These include:

Two Compulsory Languages in Classes 11 &12

The updated curriculum framework now requires that all students in Classes 11 and 12 must study a minimum of two languages, with one of them being an Indian language. Currently, students are only able to choose a single language. According to NCF 2023, this revised choice should be promptly implemented, starting from the board exams in 2024.

Science, Arts & Commerce Streams to be Replaced

The NCF has suggested the elimination of inflexible categorization of subjects into traditional streams like science, arts, and commerce. Instead, these streams will be substituted by four distinct “groups” of subjects that students can choose from. The first group pertains to languages, while the second encompasses art education, physical education, and vocational education. Social science and interdisciplinary fields make up the third group, while the fourth group encompasses mathematics and science.

Board Exams Will Become Easier

The NCF 2023 mandates a student-friendly approach for all board examinations, including the upcoming CBSE board exam 2024 and various state board exams like those conducted by the Rajasthan Board, Uttar Pradesh board, and others. The underlying principle of this educational policy is to assess fundamental concepts and skills across different subjects, ensuring a rigorous evaluation of authentic learning without sacrificing quality. The updated curriculum framework emphasizes a departure from memorization-based learning methods.

Board Exams to be Replaced in 10 years

The National Curriculum Framework 2023 proposes that the current system of annual or biannual board exams be replaced by modular exams in 10 years. Modular exams are smaller, more frequent exams that allow students to take exams on a subject soon after it is taught in class. This will help students learn more effectively and reduce the stress of taking large, high-stakes exams.

The NCF 2023 is a major overhaul of the Indian education system, and the changes to the board exams are just one part of it. However, these changes have the potential to make a significant difference in the way students learn and are assessed in India. (The Indian Express)

‘Process going on, 2nd phase to be started from next month, cabling work being done simultaneously’

Owais Gul

Srinagar, Sep 04 (KNO): Amid the installation of smart meters across the Valley, the government on Monday said that at least 26000 consumers have switched to prepaid mode so far in the valley.

“The process to switch the smart meters into prepaid mode has already started for those whose smart meters have been installed in the phase-I. We have crossed about 26000 smart meters so far,” Javaid Yousf Dar, Chief Engineer, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said that the process is going on gradually and all the consumers will have to switch the smart meters into prepaid mode.

Asked when the smart meters installed in the second phase will be switched to prepaid mode, KPDCL Chief Engineer said that at present the integration process is going and the smart meters will be switched into prepaid mode once the integration process is completed. “It will hopefully be started from next month,” he said.

Earlier in July this year, the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) had directed over 57,000 smart electricity meter users to switch from postpaid to the prepaid mode to keep receiving electricity. Else, their connections would be cut off.

About installation of smart meters, the KPDCL Chief Engineer, said that the process is going on and will take almost one or two years more to complete.

Amidst the installation of smart meters, the KPDCL Chief Engineer, told KNO that the cabling work is also being done simultaneously. “In many areas, not only in Srinagar but in towns too, the new cabling work has been done and furthermore, the process is still going on,” he added—(KNO)
