GMC Srinagar Selection List 2026 Released for Senior Resident Posts in Paediatric Nephrology & General Surgery

Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has officially released the selection list for the tenure post of Senior Residents in the Departments of Paediatric Nephrology and General Surgery. The notification has been issued under Notification No. 17-RA of 2026 dated 07-05-2026.

The announcement comes as an important update for medical aspirants and candidates who had applied for the Senior Resident positions in GMC Srinagar. GMC Srinagar and Its Role in Medical Education

Doctors selected in this department are expected to gain advanced exposure to pediatric renal care, critical management, and multidisciplinary treatment approaches.

Why GMC Srinagar Did Not Conduct a Written Examination

One of the major highlights of the notification is that GMC Srinagar skipped the written examination process for these departments.

This decision was made under Government Order No. 383-JK (HME) of 2024, which states that written tests are not required in cases where applications are less than or equal to available vacancies.

This policy helps:

  • Reduce delays in appointments
  • Ensure timely engagement of medical professionals
  • Streamline recruitment procedures
  • Address manpower shortages quickly

The move is particularly important in healthcare institutions where vacancies can impact patient care services.

Verification Process and Candidate Responsibilities

Candidates selected under the notification must understand that selection remains subject to successful physical verification of documents.

Authorities have clearly mentioned that if any candidate fails to produce valid documents during verification or does not fulfill the eligibility criteria mentioned in the advertisement notification, the selection will be forfeited without further notice.

Therefore, candidates should ensure:

  • Original certificates are genuine and complete
  • Affidavits are properly executed
  • Educational qualifications meet prescribed standards
  • Registration documents are valid

Any discrepancy during verification may lead to cancellation.

Career Growth After Senior Residency

A Senior Residency tenure at GMC Srinagar opens multiple career pathways for doctors.

After completion of residency, candidates may pursue:

  • Academic faculty positions
  • Super-specialization courses
  • Consultant roles in hospitals
  • Research fellowships
  • Government medical services
  • Private healthcare practice

For many postgraduate doctors, Senior Residency acts as a bridge between postgraduate education and independent professional practice.

Departments such as:

  • Nephrology
  • Surgery

Some major trends observed in recent years include:

  • Faster selection processes
  • Relaxation in written examinations for low applicant numbers
  • Increased digital verification systems
  • Transparent merit-based selections
  • Department-specific recruitments

The use of the Employee Verification System (EVS) also reflects the growing shift toward digital governance in healthcare recruitment.

Important steps include:

  • Monitoring official websites regularly
  • Keeping documents updated
  • Ensuring valid medical registration
  • Preparing academic records in advance

  • Applicable government order
  • Reporting timelines
  • Verification requirements
  • Consequences of non-compliance

Impact on Healthcare Services

The appointment of Senior Residents directly contributes to improving healthcare delivery in hospitals attached to GMC Srinagar.

Benefits include:

  • Better patient management
  • Reduced workload on faculty
  • Enhanced emergency coverage
  • Improved specialist care
  • Better training environment for students

Departments such as General Surgery and Paediatric Nephrology require continuous manpower support due to heavy patient inflow and specialized treatment requirements.

Digital Transformation in Medical Administration

The mention of the Employee Verification System (EVS) reflects the increasing digitalization of administrative procedures in healthcare institutions.

Digital systems help:

  • Reduce paperwork
  • Ensure faster processing
  • Improve transparency
  • Minimize verification delays
  • Maintain accurate employee records

Such reforms are becoming increasingly common in government institutions across India.

The release of the GMC Srinagar Senior Resident selection list for the departments of Paediatric Nephrology and General Surgery marks an important update for medical professionals in Jammu & Kashmir.

A total of five candidates have been selected under Notification No. 17-RA of 2026. Since the number of applicants was equal to or less than the available vacancies, GMC Srinagar completed the selection process without conducting a written examination as per existing government rules.

Students, Parents Stage Protest Over Closure of Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom in Shopian, Seek Immediate Reopening

Students, parents protest closure of Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom in Shopian; demand reopening of institution

MLA Shabir Kullay says innocent students should not suffer for management’s actions; DC assures alternative admission arrangements

Shopian, May 07: Hundreds of students and parents associated with the Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom on Thursday staged a protest at the Mini Secretariat here, demanding the reopening of the institution. They expressed deep concern over the uncertain academic future of students after the seminary was sealed under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Carrying placards reading “Save Our Future” and “Open Our School”, the protesters marched peacefully towards the office of the Deputy Commissioner, urging the administration to reconsider the closure and ensure that students preparing for board examinations do not suffer academic losses.

Students said the sudden closure of the institution had disrupted their studies at a crucial stage of the academic session, creating anxiety among hundreds of families across the district.

“We want to continue our studies. Board examinations are approaching, and we are worried about our future,” said a student.

Several parents who joined the demonstration appealed to the authorities to separate the educational interests of students from the allegations levelled against the institution’s management.

“We are concerned about our children’s future. They have already lost valuable time. The government should make arrangements so their education does not suffer,” a protesting parent said.

The protest also witnessed participation from teachers and staff members of the seminary, who demanded revocation of the notification declaring the institution an unlawful entity. Protesters maintained that education was a fundamental right and urged the administration to find a solution that safeguards students’ careers.

Meanwhile, MLA Shopian Shabir Ahmad Kullay visited the protestors and interacted with students and parents.

Speaking to reporters, Kullay said the government had repeatedly issued warnings to the management of the institution over the last two years regarding alleged anti-national and unlawful activities, but the management allegedly failed to respond appropriately.

“The closure of the institute is unfortunate, but the government says it was compelled to act because the management failed to address repeated concerns. However, the future of students must be protected, and the institution should be reformed on modern educational lines,” the MLA said.

Kullay assured the protesters that he would take up the matter with senior government officials to ensure that students are accommodated properly and do not face interruption in their studies.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian Shishir Gupta also met a delegation of parents during the protest and assured them that alternative arrangements would be made for admission of affected students in nearby schools.

According to parents present during the meeting, the DC directed the Chief Education Officer (CEO) to facilitate a smooth and hassle-free admission process for the students so that their academic year is not wasted.

The authorities sealed the premises of Darul Uloom Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom at Imam Sahib on April 27 after it was declared a “notified place” under the UAPA.

The action followed an order issued by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg under Section 8(1) of the Act, declaring the institution a place allegedly being used for purposes linked to an unlawful association.

Subsequently, District Magistrate Shopian imposed prohibitory restrictions under Section 8(4) of the UAPA, banning entry into the seminary premises without prior permission from the district administration.

Officials said the action was taken in the interest of public safety and national security, alleging that the institution was linked to activities prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of the nation, including alleged radicalisation of youth and financial irregularities—(KNO)

3. Multiple Admit Cards and Clubbing Requests

One of the major instructions in the notification concerns candidates who had received multiple admit cards or roll numbers due to separate applications.

JKSSB has advised such candidates to submit requests for “clubbing” of their admit cards/roll numbers in the prescribed format.

This process is important because some candidates applied under different advertisements or item numbers and may have appeared multiple times.

The Board wants such cases to be consolidated properly before final processing of recruitment records.

Candidates are therefore advised not to ignore this instruction if they fall under this category.

JKSSB Driver Recruitment 2026: Why This Recruitment Matters

The Driver recruitment process conducted by JKSSB has received significant attention because government driver posts are considered highly stable and secure employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Several government departments require drivers for administrative work, transportation duties, field assignments, logistics operations, and official mobility support.

These posts often provide:

  • Government salary structure
  • Job stability
  • Pension and service benefits
  • Departmental promotions
  • Allowances and perks
