Winter break upto 8th class from Dec-01: Sakina Itoo

Says vacations for other classes upto 12th standard from second week of December

The government Monday said that the winter vacations upto 8th standard will commence from December-01 for the winter zone of Kashmir division.

It also said that the vacations for other classes upto 12th standard will be from the second week of December.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Education Minister, Sakina Itoo said, “The proposal for winter vacation upto 8th standard has been approved and the vacations will begin from December-01.”

Itoo further said, “In case of other classes upto 12th standard, the vacations will likely begin from December-12 or December-13.”

Earlier, the minister had said that the winter break for students up to the middle classes is likely to begin from the first week of December amid cold temperatures.

She had said that the parents repeatedly requested for the announcement of the schedule for winter break. “The winter season becomes difficult for younger children.”

Itoo had further said that, “We have already conducted a meeting regarding the winter break and we have tentatively decided that for lower classes from Class 1 up to middle grade, will probably observe the vacation from the first week of December.”

About the textbook issue, the minister had said, “We have already streamlined the matter to a large extent.”

“Directions have been issued to ensure there is no shortage of books or uniforms,” she said.

Pertinently, KNO two weeks back had reported that the School Education Department has tentatively decided to announce the winter vacations in a phased manner from the first week of December for the winter zone of Kashmir division—(KNO)

Young India Fellowship Opens Scholarship Applications for Academic Session 2026-27

The prestigious one-year programme at Ashoka University (YIF) has officially opened its application process for the 2026–27 academic session. Marking its 15th year (with the 16th cohort), the Young India Fellowship (YIF) is offering a fully inclusive scholarship model this year: all selected Fellows will receive financial support.

In this article, we explore what YIF offers, eligibility criteria, the application process, why the scholarship matters, and how you can position your application strongly.

1. What is the Young India Fellowship?

Launched in 2011, YIF has built a reputation as one of India’s leading postgraduate programmes in liberal education, leadership and interdisciplinary learning. According to media reports, the 2026–27 cohort of YIF will offer a Post-Graduate Diploma in Interdisciplinary Studies, broadening the academic framework beyond its earlier format.

YIF’s structure includes:

  • Core and elective coursework spanning across disciplines.
  • Experiential learning, real-world project work, and holistic engagement.
  • A campus environment designed to bring together Fellows from diverse backgrounds—academics, professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs.

Over the past decade and a half, YIF alumni have gone on to careers across public policy, research, civil society, entrepreneurship, the arts and the corporate sector—reflecting the programme’s broad ambition.

2. Why this year’s scholarship announcement is significant

For the 2026-27 academic session, Ashoka University has emphasised that all selected Fellows will receive scholarships. The financial support is funded largely through philanthropic partnerships—most notably with HDFC Bank.

Key highlights:

  • Selected candidates will receive need-based waivers from 25 % to 100 %, covering tuition, residence and meals.
  • In the most recent batch, 59 % of Fellows received full tuition waivers or more; 32 % were fully funded; and within the fully funded group, 24 % received additional support.
  • There is no age limit for applicants, and those from diverse socioeconomic, academic or professional backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

This inclusive scholarship model signals a major step toward widening access—removing one of the traditional barriers to elite postgraduate programmes in India. In that sense, applying this year is a timely opportunity for ambitious candidates across India.

3. Eligibility & Who Should Apply

Eligibility Criteria (2026–27)

  • Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) from a recognised institution by July 2026. Final-year students completing their degree by summer 2026 are eligible.
  • There is no age limit for applying.
  • Work experience (full-time jobs, entrepreneurship, freelancing, internships) is viewed as advantageous, though not strictly required.
  • Applicants are evaluated on a set of qualitative characteristics such as:
    • Intellectual curiosity and drive.
    • Open-mindedness, capacity for leadership and emotional maturity.
    • A track record of meaningful engagement—academic, professional or non-academic.

Who should consider applying?

  • Graduates (or soon-to-graduate students) seeking a transformative, one-year postgraduate programme that emphasises liberal education, leadership, critical thinking and a broad intellectual foundation.
  • Candidates who are not strictly focused on a technical specialization but wish to develop skills for policy, entrepreneurship, social impact, arts or interdisciplinary careers.
  • Applicants from non-traditional backgrounds (e.g., first-generation college students, those with diverse life experiences) who bring distinctive perspectives and are motivated to engage in a peer-rich, academically rigorous environment. The 2025–26 batch reportedly included 35 % first-generation college students and 59 % women.

4. Application Process & Important Dates

The application cycle for YIF 2026–27 is structured in rounds. According to the admissions site:

Key Dates (Round 1)

  • Priority Deadline: 8 December 2025
  • Final Deadline for Round 1: 19 January 2026
  • Personal Interviews: December 2025 – February 2026 (for shortlisted candidates)
  • Offer Decisions: March 2026 (for Round 1)

Steps to Apply

  1. Visit the YIF Admissions portal at Ashoka University.
  2. Complete the online application form: provide personal details, academic and professional history, motivations, etc.
  3. Submit any required supporting documents—this may include transcripts, a letter of recommendation (LoR) and possibly a personal essay.
  4. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online personal interview. In some cases, the top-candidates may also be invited for the “Chancellor’s Scholarship” interview.
  5. After offers are made, admitted or wait-listed candidates will have the opportunity to apply separately for the need-based scholarship.

Cost of Application: The application itself is free of cost.

5. Programme Structure & Experience

Understanding what the YIF programme comprises helps applicants align their expectations and prepare accordingly.

Overview of the Student Journey

  • Duration: One academic year (residential) at Ashoka University’s campus. (Ashoka is located in Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Sonepat, Haryana)
  • Curriculum: Around 18 courses (core + electives) across disciplines like humanities, social sciences, economics, management, data, environment, arts. This breadth allows for intellectual exploration.
  • Experiential Learning: Fellows engage in applied projects, potentially working with NGOs, social enterprises, startups or research teams. Real-world implications matter.
  • Holistic Engagement: The programme emphasises community living, peer interactions, mentorship from faculty/alumni, and leadership development through active learning.
  • Outcomes: YIF alumni pursue careers globally—in government, private sector, academia, civil society, media, arts and entrepreneurship. The network and brand of YIF are strong.

Why Choose YIF?

  • For those who wish to reimagine their career path rather than follow a conventional trend.
  • For individuals looking for a transformative experience – not just academically, but personally and professionally.
  • For applicants eager to join a cohort of diverse intellectual peers, develop leadership and critical thinking, and engage in meaningful projects rather than rote learning.

6. Tips for a Strong Application

Given the competitive nature and holistic evaluation of YIF, here are key suggestions to strengthen your candidature:

  1. Clarify purpose and vision
    • Be ready to articulate why you want this programme: what drives you, what you aim to learn, and how you plan to contribute to the YIF community and beyond.
    • Go beyond résumé-style achievements; focus on insight, reflection and future orientation.
  2. Highlight diversity of experience
    • Because YIF values interdisciplinary thinking, show evidence of curiosity beyond your main discipline. It could be reading broadly, side-projects, volunteering, travel, leadership roles etc.
    • If you come from a non-traditional background (first-gen, alternate path), emphasise how this context has shaped you and how you will add value.
  3. Demonstrate intellectual and emotional readiness
    • Use concrete examples: projects you initiated, problems you tackled, leadership roles you held, obstacles you overcame.
    • Show maturity, adaptability and the ability to work collaboratively in an environment of peers from varied backgrounds.
  4. Research the programme deeply
    • Read about YIF: course catalogue, alumni profiles, campus life. This will help you tailor your application to reflect genuine fit.
    • Clearly articulate what aspects of YIF appeal to you (e.g., residential community, experiential projects, liberal education) rather than generic statements.
  5. Prepare for interview
    • Be ready for a conversational, thought-provoking interview (online). Practice discussing your motivations, experiences and reflections.
    • Show authenticity and enthusiasm—interviews often assess fit not just credentials.
  6. Financial preparedness
    • Even though the programme offers scholarships, you may still need to think about logistics (travel, personal expenses). Be ready to indicate your financial need or plan.
    • When applying for need-based scholarships, ensure you submit accurate and honest financial information.
  7. Apply early
    • Submitting in the priority window (by 8 Dec 2025 for Round 1) can give you earlier interview dates and more time to plan.

7. Potential Outcomes and Future Pathways

What might your journey post-YIF look like?

  • Career Switch: Many Fellows pivot into new domains—policy, social impact, consulting, entrepreneurship, creative fields—leveraging the interdisciplinary toolkit YIF offers.
  • Leadership Roles: The emphasis on leadership and impact means alumni often assume responsibilities beyond entry-level roles.
  • Social and Civic Engagement: With YIF’s ethos centred on change-making, several Fellows move into sectors that address societal challenges.
  • Academic/Research Options: For some, YIF becomes a launching pad into higher studies or research globally—with the benefit of a strong peer network and foundational skills.
  • Networking and Community: YIF’s alumni network (2,400+ Fellows reported over the years) allows cross-sector collaboration and mentorship opportunities.

8. Key Things to Keep in Mind

  • The programme is intensive: One year residential, full-time, high engagement. Be sure this format aligns with your personal/career situation.
  • While financial support is generous, being prepared for non-academic costs (travel, personal spend) helps.
  • The selection process is holistic: academic performance is just one aspect—character, purpose, readiness and fit matter significantly.
  • Be realistic: Competition will be strong (around ~100 candidates selected) and you will be evaluated among peers with strong backgrounds.
  • Use the time before application wisely: reflect on your story, gather strong recommendation(s), complete necessary documents and prepare for interviews.

The Young India Fellowship’s 2026–27 application cycle represents a true opportunity: a fully scholarship-driven, high-impact residential programme designed for ambitious individuals seeking transformational learning. If you are driven by purpose, open to interdisciplinary thought, keen on engaging with diverse peers, and eager to lead change—this could be the right step.

The key now is to act early, clarify your vision, and prepare thoroughly. Let your motivation and uniqueness shine through your application. With the financial barrier significantly lowered this year, the focus shifts even more to who you are, what you want, and how you will contribute.

Resolve Reservation Row Now or I’ll Join Student Protests After Dec 20: MP Aga Ruhullah

Says this time protests will not be for a day, dont push entire generation to the wall

Srinagar: Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, on Monday expressed strong concern over the prolonged uncertainty faced by aspiring youth, urging the government to immediately resolve the pending matter affecting students across Jammu and Kashmir.

In a post on X, Ruhullah Mehdi as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, questioned what it would take for the authorities to “understand the agony and hopelessness” faced by the youth. He said the continued delay was “suffocating an entire young generation and pushing them to walls,” adding that even the latest case reported at Vaishno Devi University should have opened the government’s eyes to the urgency.

Ruhullah said last year the government had assured a six-month timeline to address the issue, but “those six months have turned into a year.” He added that before the Budgam Assembly election, authorities claimed the matter would be resolved in a few days, “but those few days are now turning into more than a month.”

“Even if they solve this issue sometime in future, which I think is unlikely, what will compensate the years already lost and the vacancies that are gone?” he asked.

He further questioned whether “personal egos” were at play and whether an entire generation was being punished because he had been raising his voice for them. Mehdi said he would withdraw himself from the matter for a month to avoid being seen as an obstacle and urged the government to meet the students and resolve the issue rationally.

Srinagar MP warned that if the issue remains unresolved after the conclusion of the Parliament session on December 20, he would join the students again “the way we did last December,” adding that this time his protest “will not…” be for a day only. (KNC)

JKSSB Declares Result/Score-Sheet for Junior Engineer (Electrical) Posts – Download PDF

The Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has issued the result/score-sheet for the written examination conducted for the posts of Junior Engineer (Electrical) in the Power Development Department (PDD). The exam was held on 25 October 2025 under Advertisement No. 02 of 2025 (Items 02, 03, 04 & 05).
This notification dated 24 November 2025 officially publishes the result-score sheet (Annexure “A”) and gives important instructions for the next stages of the selection process.

Important Highlights

  • Exam Date: 25 October 2025 for JE (Electrical) posts.
  • Result Notification Date: 24 November 2025.
  • Vacancy/Advertisement: Recruitment notification for JE (Electrical) was under Advt. No. 02 of 2025 for the PDD.
  • Score-sheet Released: The board has released the score-sheet of all candidates who appeared in the examination, identified as Annexure “A”.
  • Next Stage – Document Verification (DV): The notification clarifies that mere appearing in the score-sheet does not guarantee being called for document verification; only those candidates falling in the “consideration zone” based on merit will be shortlisted.

Understanding What the Score-sheet Means

The release of the score-sheet is an important milestone for candidates, but it is not the final selection list. Instead, it lists the marks obtained by candidates in the written examination.
The key take-aways for aspirants:

  • Being listed in the result/score-sheet means you appeared in the exam and your marks have been published.
  • However, being listed does not mean you will necessarily be called for the next phase (document verification).
  • The Board will determine a merit-based “consideration zone”, and only candidates within that zone will be invited for DV.
  • The schedule, venue and list of documents for DV will be notified separately by JKSSB.

This distinction is explicitly spelled out in the notification.

What Candidates Should Do Now

  1. Download the PDF: Candidates should immediately download the score-sheet from the link above, or visit the JKSSB website under the Results section.
  2. Check Your Roll Number & Score: Look for your roll number in Annexure “A” and check the marks obtained.
  3. Stay Updated: Watch for the upcoming notification regarding document verification (DV) – including date, venue, list of eligible candidates, and required original documents.
  4. Organise Documents: Since DV is the next step, it is wise to keep all original certificates ready (educational/technical qualification, domicile, category certificate if applicable, identity proof, etc.).
  5. Be Prepared Mentally: Even if you have been listed, your DV eligibility depends on your position in the merit-list and available vacancies. Don’t assume automatic selection.

Some Context & Background

  • The JKSSB had earlier released the provisional answer key for this examination (JE Electrical), held on 25 October 2025. The answer key allowed candidates to file objections within a stipulated timeframe.
  • According to various exam-updates, the online application process for JE (Electrical) had commenced in early 2025, and the number of vacancies reported for the electrical discipline were in the range of ~292, under the same recruitment drive.

Why This Is Important

For candidates from the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir aspiring for government engineering posts, the JE (Electrical) recruitment through JKSSB represents a major opportunity. Given the technical nature of the post, it requires a valid Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering and other eligibility criteria. The release of the score-sheet allows transparency in the process and enables candidates to see their performance relative to norms.

For JKSSB and the PDD, publication of the result/score-sheet signals completion of the major examination phase and paves the way for next steps — document verification, final short‐listing and eventual appointment.

Key Points to Note

  • This result covers only the written examination stage, and does not mean final appointment.
  • The merit-based “consideration zone” will determine which candidates are called for DV.
  • Candidates from all categories (Open Merit, SC, ST, OBC, EWS etc) must check their eligibility and ranking.
  • The PDF includes roll numbers, candidate names (as per application), father’s name, and scores.
  • Candidates must monitor the official JKSSB portal for DV notification, cut-off marks, and further instructions.

Q4: What documents do I need for DV?
A: Original qualification certificate (Diploma/Degree), mark sheets, domicile certificate, category certificate (if applicable), identity proof, photographs, and any other document as specified by JKSSB in the DV notification.

JKSSB Declares Written Examination Result for Junior Engineer (Civil) – Advt. No. 03 of 2025

The Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has officially released the result/score‐sheet of the written examination for the post of Junior Engineer (Civil) under Advt. No. 03 of 2025 (Items No. 06 & 07) for the Public Works (R&B) and Jal Shakti Departments. The result notification, dated 24 November 2025, makes the score‐sheet publicly available for candidates who appeared in the written test held on 2 November 2025.

Key Highlights

  • Exam Conducting Body: JKSSB, located at Muthi, Akhnoor Road, Jammu / ZumZam Complex, Rambagh, Srinagar.
  • Post: Junior Engineer (Civil) – Public Works (R&B) / Jal Shakti Departments.
  • Advertisement: Notification No. 03 of 2025.
  • Written Examination Date: 02 November 2025.
  • Result Notification Date: 24 November 2025.
  • The result is in the form of a score‐sheet (Annexure “A”) listing candidate roll numbers, names, father’s names and score achieved.
  • Importantly, the notification emphasises that mere figuring in the score-sheet does not entitle a candidate to be called for document verification or final selection. The Board will call candidates falling in the consideration zone on merit basis.

What the Notification Says

In its notification, JKSSB states:

“Mere figuring in the result/score-sheet shall not entitle a candidate to be called for document verification or figure in the select list and that he/she has to fulfil other eligibility conditions, as laid down and decision of the Board in this regard shall be final.”
“The Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) will call candidates falling in the consideration zone, based on the merit obtained by them for Document Verification. The schedule for Document Verification shall be notified separately.”

This makes it clear that the score‐sheet is not the final merit list or selection list. It is a transparency move to show how many candidates appeared and how they scored; the next steps will follow for those shortlisted.

What Candidates Should Do Next

  • Check your name and score: Download the PDF and locate your roll number and details in Annexure “A”.
  • Note that this is only the score‐sheet: Listing here does not guarantee you a call for next stage; it just means you appeared and your marks are reflected.
  • Await the Board’s notification: JKSSB will separately issue a list of candidates invited for Document Verification (DV). This will be based on a “consideration zone” determined by merit and number of vacancies.
  • Prepare original documents: Those likely to be called should keep ready all required certificates: engineering diploma/degree, domicile, category certificate (if applicable), identity proof, etc.
  • Stay updated: Keep checking the official JKSSB website regularly for updated notifications, cut-offs, DV schedule, and final selection list.

Importance of this Recruitment Drive

The recruitment for Junior Engineer (Civil) holds major significance for aspiring engineers within the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. As per the official Notification No. 03 of 2025, a total of 508 vacancies have been announced for the Civil engineering discipline — comprising 150 posts under Public Works (R&B) and 358 under Jal Shakti Department.

This provides a substantial opportunity for diploma/degree holders in civil engineering to secure a government job in a technical role, especially within UT structures.

Recruitment & Selection Overview

  • Advertisement: Notification No. 03 of 2025 for JE (Civil).
  • Eligibility: Candidates must have requisite engineering diploma or degree in civil engineering as specified, and domicile of J&K UT.
  • Selection Process: Written Examination → Document Verification → Final Selection. No interview for many posts.
  • Written Examination Format: An objective‐type paper with multiple choice questions, negative marking for wrong answers (0.25 marks) as per standard.
  • Merit & Consideration Zone: The Board will determine a cut‐off/consideration zone based on vacancies and scores attained; those above the zone will be invited for DV.

Why Release the Score‐Sheet Now?

Publishing the complete score‐sheet offers transparency: all candidates can see where they stand in terms of marks. It allows aspirants to know whether they are in contention for further rounds. It also helps avoid confusion about selections being arbitrary. By clearly stating that listing does not guarantee selection, the Board maintains procedural clarity.

What This Means for Aspirants

  • If your name appears in the PDF, congratulations — you have your score.
  • If you scored high (compared to peer scores in previous years or your estimate), you have a strong chance of moving into the next stage.
  • If your score is lower, this is still a learning point: you now know your performance level and can plan for future attempts or improvement.
  • Stay alert for the next stage notification — printouts, document verification calls, original certificates ready.
  • Check the official site regularly so you don’t miss any deadlines (for DV or final selection).

Sample Timeline

  • Notification released: 25 April 2025 (Online application window opened shortly thereafter).
  • Written Exam Date (Civil): 02 November 2025.
  • Result / Score‐sheet released: 24 November 2025.
  • Next stage (Document Verification) to be notified by JKSSB soon.

For Web Site Readers: Download and Print

We encourage all candidates and website readers to download the official PDF of the result from the JKSSB website (link above). Once downloaded:

  • Use Ctrl+F (or search) functionality to look up your Roll Number quickly.
  • Print a hard copy for your records, especially if you believe you may advance to the next stage.
  • Compare your score with past years (if available) to estimate chances of making the merit list.

Important Caveats & Notes

  • Inclusion in the score‐sheet does not equal selection — the selection will follow per merit and eligibility criteria.
  • The Board explicitly reserves the right to decide eligibility, to invite candidates in the consideration zone and rule out candidates who do not fulfil documentary or other eligibility conditions.
  • Keep in mind that category‐based reservations, tie-breaking rules, domicile requirements etc., may apply.
  • After DV, there may be further processes (medical, verification etc) before final appointment.

Final Word

For all aspiring Junior Engineers (Civil) in Jammu & Kashmir, this is a significant milestone. The release of the score‐sheet by JKSSB marks the conclusion of the written examination phase and provides clarity on where candidates stand. The next few weeks will determine who among them is invited for Document Verification and ultimately selected for appointment.

If you are one of the candidates, this is the time to stay alert, ensure your documents are ready, keep track of official notifications and, if shortlisted, be fully prepared for the next phase. For all those looking ahead, take this as a guide to the level required, plan accordingly for future attempts, and use this result as a reference point.

We congratulate all candidates who secured their names in the Mumbai—sorry, Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board’s result sheet, and wish you all the very best for the next stage of selection. Stay connected with the official site of JKSSB for timely updates and further instructions.
