The government has decided to announce early winter vacations for the kindergarten classes.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Minister for Education, Sakina Itoo said tomorrow (November 25) will be the last working day for students enrolled in kindergarten classes.

“I have discussed the matter with Director School Education Kashmir. Tomorrow will be the last working day for students of kindergarten classes,” Sakina Itoo told Greater Kashmir.

The decision comes in wake of the demand from parents for early announcement of winter vacation for kindergarten classes in view of the dip in weather conditions across Kashmir.

The demand comes days after the government announced that the winter vacations for classes up to 8th will commence from December first week.

“Temperature is already below normal. The time of mulling over a decision is over, they need to act now for primary kids sake. Think about kids with asthma and cold allergy. Going out right now is literally suicide for them,” said Asma, a parent from Srinagar.

The parents argued that the government should announce winter vacations for kindergarten classes in view of the prevailing cold weather.

“Entering a classroom which is centrally heated and then going out in the ground for morning and afternoon assemblies is dangerous for the small kids,” the parents said.

The parents said that continuing schools amid the prevailing weather was damaging and can prove fatal for the small school going children.

“The sunlight that we see in the afternoon is appealing and enticing to the eyes but it is not good for the general health,” the parents said.

Minister for Education also acknowledged the dip in weather conditions across Kashmir.

Says MBBS admissions based on merit only, seat allocation cannot be decided by religion

Anantnag, Nov 24: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday dismissed rumours about an increase in electricity charges in Jammu & Kashmir, asserting that the Government has neither discussed nor proposed any hike in power tariffs.

Speaking to reporters in Anantnag, the CM Omar as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC said, “There is no move to hike electricity rates. I have no idea where these rumours originated. As the Power Minister as well, I can say with certainty that no such proposal has been discussed or placed before the government.”

Earlier in the day, Union Coal & Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy, the Chief Minister and Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary jointly launched the maiden e-auction of seven limestone mineral blocks in Anantnag, Rajouri, and Poonch — a major step under mining reforms of the MMDR Act, 2015.

Abdullah clarified that the allocation process of these blocks remains fully under the jurisdiction of the J&K administration. “These blocks are not being handed over arbitrarily, nor does the Centre control them. The Union Ministry of Mines is only assisting to ensure transparency and efficiency in allotment,” he said.

He added that limestone is crucial for cement manufacturing, and the Government intends to promote industrial units near the mining sites to create employment opportunities for local youth.

On seat allocation in Mata Vaishno devi University, CM Omar said that the law does not restrict entry based on religion. Referring to the Mata Vaishno Devi University Act, he said, “Where was it written that boys or girls of any particular religion would be excluded? Admission has always been merit-based.”

He stressed that any deviation from merit would require Supreme Court approval, adding that bringing religion into admission processes would violate constitutional safeguards. “If decisions start being made on the basis of religion, should social welfare schemes or policing follow the same pattern?” he asked.

Abdullah advised Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma to re-examine the Assembly record, stressing that no clause allows seat distribution on religious lines. (KNC)

Weather Update J&K: Dry Spell to Continue, Fog Likely Across Kashmir | 24 November 2025

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather forecast for Jammu & Kashmir, indicating a prolonged dry spell across the Union Territory with a slight chance of light snowfall over higher reaches in early December. Authorities have also issued an advisory regarding fog and a drop in temperatures.

🔹 24th November – 1st December 2025:
Generally dry weather conditions are expected to prevail across Jammu & Kashmir. No major weather activity is anticipated during this period.

🔹 2nd December 2025:
The weather may turn generally cloudy by the afternoon, with a brief spell of very light snowfall likely over isolated higher reaches.

🔹 3rd – 10th December 2025:
Once again, the region is expected to witness mainly dry weather, with no significant precipitation.


Advisory Issued ⚠

The MET Centre Srinagar has advised residents to remain cautious regarding the following:

Shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue at many places in Kashmir Division and isolated areas in Jammu Division.
✔ A further fall in both maximum and minimum temperatures by 1–2°C is expected over the next week.

Persistent fog may result in reduced visibility, affecting transport, especially early morning travel. People are advised to take necessary precautions.

Railway RRB Group D Admit Card 2025: The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released the Group D admit card/call letter today, November 24 for the examination scheduled to be conducted from November 27, 2025 to December 6, 2025. Candidates who have applied for the exam can check and download the admit card on the official board website rrbcd.gov.in.The city slip was released on November 19, 2025.

RRB Group D Exam: How To Download Admit Card?

Visit the official website rrbcd.gov.in. On the homepage, click on “Group D Admit Card (Level 1)”. Enter your registration number and date of birth and the admit card will be downloaded. Save it to take it to the examination centre.

The examination covers multiple subjects to assess a candidate’s suitability for the post. These subjects include Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness and Current Affairs.

What Are Minimum Marks Required To Clear Group D Exam?

  • UR: 40 per cent
  • EWS: 40 per cent
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 30 per cent
  • SC: 30 per cent
  • ST: 30 per cent

The CBT exam will be conducted for 90 minutes and will consist of 100 questions. Candidates will receive one mark for every correct answer, while one-third of a mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

RRB Group D Recruitment: Over 1 Crore Applications

Group D remains one of the largest recruitment exams in India, with RRB confirming that over 1.08 crore candidates applied for the Group D posts under CEN 08/2024. The Mumbai region received the highest number of applications at 15,59,100 (15.59 lakh). A total of 32,438 vacancies have been announced across various regions.

The Group D examination is conducted to fill several roles such as Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Assistant Pointsman, and various technical positions in departments including Electrical, Mechanical, and Signal & Telecommunication.
