Rains Lash J&K, Pahalgam Receives Highest Precipitation; MeT Predicts More

Srinagar, July 16 (GNS): Rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir since overnight with Pahalgam receiving highest precipitation during the last 24 hours, a meteorological department official here said on Sunday.

A meteorological department official here told GNS that in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours, Pahalgam received 34.9mm followed by Bhaderwah 19.8mm, Jammu 14mm, Katra 12.8mm, Batote 6.6mm, Banihal and Kokernag 6.0mm each, Qazigund 1.6mm, Gulmarg 0.8mm and Srinagar traces.

Regarding the forecast, he said, generally cloudy weather is expected with 1-2 spells of rain at most places of Kashmir and at scattered places of Jammu region in the forenoon today.

From July 17-20, he said, rain/thundershower was expected at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir towards early morning, late afternoon and evening.

From July 21-22, he said, intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershower were expected at scattered places of J&K. “Overall, there’s no forecast of any major rainfall till July 25th,” he added.

As regards temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of Srinagar recorded a low of 21.6°C against 20.2°C on the previous night and it was 3.5°C above normal for the summer capital.

Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 19.4°C against 16.8°C on the previous night and it was 2.7°C above normal for the gateway town of the Kashmir Valley.

Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 16.2°C against 12.1°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 4.2°C for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at 17.9°C against 18.2°C on the previous night and it was 1.3°C above normal for the north Kashmir area.

Kokernag recorded a low of 18.8°C against 16.5°C on the previous night and it was 1.9°C above normal for the place, the officials said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 14.0°C against 13.0°C on previous night and it was 2.2°C above normal for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

Jammu recorded a low of 25.1°C against 26.6°C on the previous night and it was 0.3°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 20.5°C, Batote 19.6°C, Katra 22.2°C and Bhaderwah 18.3°C, the official said. (GNS)

Consequent upon the declaration of the NEET UG- 2023 result by the National
Testing Agency (NTA) on 13-06-2023 and subsequently notified by the Board vide Notification No.035-BOPEE of 2023 dated 06.07.2023, the candidates belonging to the UT of J&K / Ladakh

who have qualified the NEET-UG 2023 having scored the cut-off marks prescribed by the NTA and whose names figure in Annexure-A to the Notification No.035-BOPEE of 2023 dated 06.07.2023 and also the candidates whose names were not available in the said annexure but are the domiciles of J&K/ Ladakh and have deposited their documents in response to Notification No. 035-BOPEE of 2023 dated 06.07.2023 forming Annexure -A to this Notification are hereby informed through the medium of this notification that to prepare the Provisional UT Merit List (PUTML) of such eligible candidates belonging to UT of J&K/ Ladakh shall be required to register themselves and upload the following documents online w.e.f 19-07-2023 to 23-07-2023 (mid-night):

1. NEET-UG score card – 2023.
2. 10+2 Marks Card.
3. Domicile Certificate of UT of J&K / Ladakh (ST Category certificate in respect of candidates belonging to the UT of Ladakh).
4. Category Certificate, wherever required.
5. Date of Birth Certificate (Matriculation).
6. The candidates belonging to the UT of Ladakh are required to upload Compulsory Service Bond (which shall be available in the Information Brochure to be uploaded by the Board on the official website (www.jkbopee.gov.in).

Around 8 lakh unemployed youth registered: Labour & Employment Dept

Srinagar, Jul 15 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir has roughly eight lakh unemployed youth registered with the Labour and Employment Department, officials said on Saturday.

Commissioner Secretary Labour and Employment Department Fatima Batool told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that there were roughly eight lakh people registered with them.

She said the department taking several steps to mitigate the unemployment problems. “Out of the total working force economy, and the data collected from different sources, we have roughly eight lakh unemployed people,” she said.

Batool said that as a part of their initiative to mitigate the unemployment problems, they organised a job fair in which companies of both local and national repute participated for manpower requirements.

The entire process of the job fair is on the digital lines for both job seekers and providers, she said, adding that they are going to take more measures in the future.

Earlier, Director Employment, Nisar Ahmad Wani told KNO that they were providing a single platform to both job seekers and providers.

For the job fair event, around 10,000 youth registered, he said, adding that the other line government departments have also made their participation to showcase their schemes for the unemployed.

As per a government spokesperson, 205 companies, including 25 of the national repute with more than 7000 vacancies, participated in the event—(KNO)

Protests against smart meters continue in Sgr

Srinagar, Jul 15 (KNO): The residents of various areas of Srinagar continue to hit the roads against the installation of smart meters.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the protests against smart meter installation were held in Habba Kadal, Nawabazar and Batamaloo areas of the city.

The people from these areas came on the roads all along with their children and raised slogans against the administration. They termed the smart meters as unacceptable.

“We are poor and middle-class families here; we cannot afford to pay hefty bills generated by these smart meters. It is totally unacceptable,” they said—(KNO)

Cites breach of peace, disruption of public order if JKHCBA proceeds with elections

Srinagar, July 15 (KNO): Deputy Commissioner Srinagar on Saturday imposed restrictions on conduct of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Elections, citing breach of peace and disruption of public order.

According to an order, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said that it has come to the knowledge JKHCBA has circulated a notice regarding the conduct of elections.

“I have perused the material facts of the matter placed before me and I am satisfied that there is an emergent situation which can lead to breach of peace and disruption of public order, if JKHCBA proceeds forward with the scheduled elections. Therefore, I, District Magistrate, Srinagar, by virtue of the powers vested in me u/s 144 CrPC direct that no gathering of 4 or more persons shall be allowed in the premises of District Court Complex Batamaloo or any other place for the purpose of conduct of elections till further orders,” reads the order.

It reads that SSP Srinagar has reported that during the meeting held on 13-07-2023 by Kashmir Advocates Association(KAA) at Court Complex Srinagar, members of another association under the nomenclature of JKHCBA entered into the Bar room and started shouting upon the members of KAA which led to scuffle between the two groups.

“Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar has highlighted that there is every possibility of internal rivalries between the two factions of the lawyers resulting into clashes between them. He has also cited in his report that JKHCBA is having past history of intimidation and provocation of other groups of the advocates which may lead to breach of peace in the instant matter.”

It added that SSP Srinagar has further stated that there are reports regarding activities of JKHCBA for forceful conduct of elections and the same may result into clashes between the above named groups.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar has asked Senior Superintendent of Police to ensure implementation of the order and that any violation by anyone of shall invite punitive action under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code, 1860—(KNO)

JKBOSE 11th class Admission Notification for failure, Reappear students

School Edu Deptt orders to provide provisional admissions to reappear, failed students till declaration of Annual Pvt results

Srinagar, July 15 (KNO): School Education Department Saturday ordered all government and private schools to provide provisional admissions to all those unsuccessful candidates who failed or couldn’t qualify one or more subject in board exams.

The directives were issued in the backdrop of complaints where the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) said some complaints were pouring in the department regarding denial of provisional admissions to such students.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), DSEK in a communique to Chief Education Officers (CEO) of the region said, “Many Schools affiliated with the JKBOSE are denying provisional admission to next higher class in favour of the candidates declared unsuccessful be it fail or reappear in board exams.”

“In pursuant to the previous notifications issued from time to time, all the candidates who have been declared unsuccessful that is fail or re-appear in one or more subjects, shall be provisionally allowed to continue their studies in next higher class till the declaration of Annual (Pvt) and bi-annual examination result 2023,” it reads.

DSEK however said that even after declaration of annual (Pvt.) and bi-annual result, if any of the provisional admitted candidates are declared fail in one or more subjects, “Their admission shall automatically stands cancelled and the cases of only those candidates will be considered, who will be declared successful in all five compulsory subjects.”

“In view of the matter, I am directed to request you to pass instructions to all Hols of your concerned schools in the district to make wider publicity of information to all the stakeholders including student and teachers to provide provisional admission to these students in next higher class as per the provision government order and notifications issued by the JKBOSE,” DSEK said—(KNO)

Baramulla, July 15 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Saturday said that no outsider was being given land under Pradhan Mantri’s Awas Yojna (PMAY) and those who grabbed state land illegally should stop misleading people.

Addressing a function at Dak Bunglow, Baramulla district of north Kashmir, the LG as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that many people came to him stating that they were eligible for the PMAY but they had no land.

“So the administration took a review and decided to give such families 5 malras land under PMAY so that they can constructed their own houses. So far, 1,99500 homes have been sanctioned for homeless families. The figure includes 46000 SC and ST category families who were eligible for the scheme besides 2711 families who had no land,” he said. “Unfortunately, some people are misleading the people by claiming that land is being given to outsiders. No outsider is being given land in J&K.”

Without naming any political party or leader, the LG said that those who grabbed state land and constructed huge houses not with their own money, should stop misleading people. “These people should stop creating confusion. I would not go into where they got money to construct huge palaces on illegally encroached state land,” the LG said as per KNO.

The LG also inaugurated a multipurpose100 seater Cinema Hall at Maqbool Sherwani Hall, Baramulla. He said after 30 years of gap, Baramulla has got a 100 seater Cinema hall. “This Cinema at Maqbool Sherwani hall Baramulla will not just be the source of entertainment but also a great source of learning for the youth who want to excel in education, technology and art,” he said.

Seeking support of people for cementing peace in J&K, the LG said that security forces and police are doing a great job but it is the collective responsibility of every single citizen to contribute towards peace building in J&K. The LG said that he was open to all suggestions regarding making J&K prosperous. “But if there are political suggestions, I was not interested in the past neither will be I interested in them in future,” he said—(KNO)
