NC Set for Major Cabinet Reshuffle in Jan 2026; Three Slots Vacant

0

Srinagar, Nov 29: The ruling National Conference-led government is likely to go for a cabinet reshuffle and expansion in January 2026, sources disclosed.

Sources told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah dropped broad hints of a cabinet expansion/ reshuffle during the two-day Central Working Committee meeting held in Srinagar on November 27 and 28.

“During the meeting, the CM told party colleagues that the party president will assess the performance of the council of ministers over the next one-and-a-half months and then accordingly decide whom to retain and whom to drop,” sources said.

During the CWC meeting, several MLAs pushed for an expansion of the cabinet. They argued that a larger council of ministers would help improve the visibility and outreach of the government.

Currently, three cabinet slots are vacant in Jammu and Kashmir, as the maximum strength of the council of ministers is capped at 10 percent of the total number of members in the Legislative Assembly. In the 90-member House, the maximum limit of the council of ministers is restricted to nine. At present, the council comprises six members – the Chief Minister and five cabinet ministers.

Even if five nominated seats are taken into account, the strength of the council of ministers cannot exceed nine, as 0.5 is treated as no increase, while fractions above 0.5 are rounded up to one—(KNO)

CBSE Board Exams 2026 — What Students Must Know 📚

0

CBSE Board Exams 2026 — What Students Must Know 📚

The CBSE has rolled out a significant overhaul for the 2026 board examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 — changes that signal a shift from traditional rote-learning to a more concept- and competency-based evaluation.

🆕 Major Changes at a Glance

  • New question-paper structure: For both Class 10 and Class 12 exams, roughly 50% of the questions will now be competency-based — including MCQs, case-based, source-based or integrated questions, data interpretation, or situational problems. An additional 20% will be select-response (MCQ) and 30% will be constructed-response (short and long answers).
  • Reduced emphasis on rote memorisation: The redesigned format intends to evaluate students on understanding and application of knowledge — not just recall.
  • Two-exam system for Class 10: From 2026 onwards, Class 10 students will get two board exam windows — the first in February (mandatory) and a second optional exam around May (for improvement or if they missed the first).

📅 Dates & Schedule Overview

  • The exams are scheduled to begin from February 17, 2026.
  • For Class 10, papers like Mathematics (Standard & Basic) will start the exam cycle. Class 12 will begin with certain electives such as Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, and Shorthand (Hindi/English) on the first day.
  • The Class 10 exam cycle ends by March 10, 2026, while Class 12 exams conclude by April 9, 2026.

Why These Changes?

  • The new pattern aligns with the recommendations of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), which emphasises holistic, competency-based and application-oriented learning over memorisation.
  • By making half the paper competency-based, CBSE aims to test not just knowledge but analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and conceptual clarity — abilities that are more relevant to real-world learning and future academic/career needs.
  • Offering two exam windows gives students flexibility: those who miss the first exam (for any reason) won’t lose an academic year, and those who wish to improve their scores have a second chance.

What This Means for Students & Teachers

  • Shift in preparation strategy: Students must now move beyond memorising facts. Instead, they need to focus on understanding concepts deeply and practising application-based problems, case studies, and data interpretation.
  • Smart time-management: Given the mixed question types (MCQs + short answers + long answers + case-based), time management during exams will be crucial. Practising sample papers will help build speed and accuracy.
  • Opportunity for improvement: Class 10 students should view the second exam window as a valuable backup — or a chance to improve marks without waiting an entire academic year.
  • Teaching approach needs adaptation: Teachers may need to adapt teaching methods — focus more on interactive, analytical and application-oriented teaching rather than fact-memorization.

The CBSE’s 2026 exam reforms appear to be a thoughtful step towards modernising school assessments in India. By prioritising conceptual clarity, application skills and giving students flexibility, the board aims to reduce exam-stress and produce learners equipped for complex thinking and real-world challenges. While the transition may demand extra effort from students and teachers initially — especially in adapting to a more rigorous evaluation style — in the long run, these changes may meaningfully improve the quality and relevance of school education.

JKBOSE Issues Important Notification: Proposes ‘Basic & Standard’ Level Mathematics for Class 10, Seeks Public Opinion

JKBOSE proposes ‘Basic, Standard’ level math for Class-10, seeks public opinion

Srinagar, Nov 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) Friday proposed to introduce dual-level mathematics examination for Class-10 wherein students will have the option to choose between ‘Basic or Standard’ levels.

The official according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the proposal is aimed to reduce the stress among those students who do not wish to continue mathematics at senior secondary level.

“The idea behind introducing the two levels or two Question papers of varied difficulty is that the students who do not study Mathematics after Class 10th need not to be tested for the standard skills,” the official said.

In the meantime, Director Academics of JKBOSE in a notification seeking public opinion has said that as per the Guidelines of National Education Policy 2020, JKBOSE intends to implement a mechanism for offering two level Mathematics ‘Basic and Standard’ for class 10th.

“The move is aimed at making board exams less stressful and to optimize the assessment as per the future endemic interest for the students desirous to pursue mathematics at higher secondary level,” it reads.

The proposed roadmap for implementation of the scheme states that there shall be a single examination comprising two levels of mathematics that is ‘Mathematics Basic and Mathematics Standard’.

“The students shall have an option to choose any one level. The difficulty level of the Mathematics-Standard exam shall be the same as the existing exam and the Mathematics-Basic Question paper will be easier in comparison,” it reads.

It also said that the standard level will be meant for students, who wish to opt for Mathematics at Senior Secondary Level and the Basic Level would be for students not keen to pursue Mathematics at Higher Secondary level.

“The syllabus, classroom teaching and internal assessment methods for both the levels will remain the same to allow students to study a range of topics and then decide upon the level for which they wish to appear during the board examination,” it reads.

JKBOSE notification further said that the students, who opt for Mathematics-standard and fail in the exam will be allowed to appear in the Bi-Annual Exam for Mathematics-Basic or Mathematics Standard.

“In case a student opts for Mathematics-Basic and passes in the exam but changes their mind later and wishes to pursue Mathematics at Higher Level, they will be allowed to appear for Mathematics-Standard Compartment Exam,” it reads.

JKBOSE said that in order to generate informed opinion regarding the implementation of the scheme, all stakeholders including civil society, academicians, parents, scholars, students are requested to send their views within ten days from the issue of this notification—(KNO)

CTET February 2026: Information Bulletin Released – Eligibility, Exam Date & Full Details

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national-level eligibility exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for candidates who wish to become teachers for classes I to VIII in India. Under the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE Act), clearing CTET is a mandatory qualification requirement for appointment as a teacher in central government schools and many other institutions that follow national standards.

CTET is widely considered a benchmark for teacher quality and is recognized across numerous schools — including those run by central agencies, state governments, and private institutions that accept CTET certification.

What’s New for February 2026 Session

  • On 27 November 2025, CBSE released the official information bulletin for the CTET February 2026 session and opened the online registration window. The last date to apply is 18 December 2025 (till 11:59 PM IST).
  • The exam is scheduled for Sunday, 8 February 2026. There will be two papers — Paper I (for Primary level, i.e. Classes I–V) and Paper II (for Upper Primary, i.e. Classes VI–VIII).
  • The 2026 session will follow the standard model: offline, pen-and-paper mode (OMR-based), MCQ format, no negative marking.

Who Can Apply? — Eligibility Criteria for CTET 2026

Other Key Points

  • NCTE emphasizes that CTET qualification alone does not guarantee appointment — final selection depends on the recruiting authority, vacancy, institutional norms, and other criteria.
  • Applicants must fulfill nationality/identity norms if applicable (Indian nationals or those eligible under specified categories for migrants/residents) as per earlier CTET guidelines.

Exam Pattern — What CTET 2026 Will Look Like

Understanding the exam pattern and syllabus is vital for effective preparation. Here is a breakdown of what to expect for CTET February 2026.

Feature Details
Mode Offline (OMR-based pen-and-paper)
Total Papers 2 — Paper I (Classes I–V), Paper II (Classes VI–VIII)
Number of Questions 150 MCQs per paper
Total Marks 150 marks (1 mark per MCQ)
Duration 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes)
Marking Scheme +1 for correct answer; No negative marking for wrong answers
Qualifying Marks 60% (i.e. 90/150) for General category; relaxation for reserved categories as per norms (usually 5%)
Validity of Certificate Lifetime — once qualified, the CTET certificate remains valid, and the candidate can apply for recruitment as per institution’s norms.

Syllabus & Subjects

  • Paper I (Primary, Classes I–V):
    • Child Development & Pedagogy
    • Language I
    • Language II
    • Mathematics
    • Environmental Studies
  • Paper II (Upper Primary, Classes VI–VIII):
    • Child Development & Pedagogy
    • Language I
    • Language II
    • Mathematics & Science or Social Studies/Social Science (depending on teacher’s specialization)

Candidates aspiring for Paper II should be comfortable with subject-area content at senior secondary / graduation level (depending on the stream chosen).

What CTET Certification Means — What It Does and What It Doesn’t

  • Clearing CTET makes you eligible to apply for teaching positions in central government schools (like those run by central agencies), some state-run and private schools which consider CTET as a minimum requirement.
  • However, CTET qualification does not guarantee appointment. Employment depends on many factors such as availability of vacancies, school-specific recruitment rules (as per RTE Act or other regulations), performance in selection processes (interview, document verification), and institutional discretion.
  • The exam aims to maintain a common standard of teacher eligibility across the country — ensuring that teachers for classes I–VIII meet certain pedagogical and academic benchmarks.
  • Once qualified, the CTET certificate remains valid for lifetime — you can appear for recruitment whenever a relevant vacancy arises, without needing to re-qualify (unless specified otherwise by a recruiting agency).

Tips & Recommendations for CTET 2026 Aspirants

Given the importance of CTET — and the volume of aspirants — proper planning and preparation can significantly improve chances of success. Here are some practical tips:

  1. Apply Early, Don’t Wait: The registration window has many aspirants; to avoid server overload or last-minute errors, apply as soon as you are eligible and have required documents ready.
  2. Read the Information Bulletin Carefully: The notification PDF contains official details — syllabus, eligibility, exam cities, fee structure, document upload specifications. Download it from the official website and go through it thoroughly.
  3. Check Eligibility Twice: Given multiple eligibility routes (D.El.Ed., B.El.Ed., B.Ed, etc.), ensure your education credentials exactly match one of the permitted combinations before applying. Mistakes may lead to rejection later.
  4. Focus on Syllabus & Pedagogy: Particularly for Paper I (Primary level), Child Development & Pedagogy — along with languages and basic mathematics/environmental studies — is crucial. For Paper II, besides pedagogy, include a strong revision of subject–specific content.
  5. Practice MCQs & Time Management: With 150 questions in 150 minutes (approx. 1 minute per question), speed and accuracy matter. Practice previous years’ papers and manage time per section carefully.
  6. Don’t Rely Only on CTET — Keep Options Open: As CTET certification doesn’t guarantee job placement, consider other eligibility exams or academic qualifications depending on your career goals.
  7. Plan for Document Verification & Recruitment: Once CTET certificate is in hand, stay alert about recruitment notifications of relevant schools (central or state), and keep documents ready (mark-sheets, identity proof, certificate, etc.).

Why CTET Still Matters — Significance & Broader Impact

The CTET continues to play a critical role in shaping teacher recruitment and quality standards across India. Here’s why CTET is important:

  • National Standardization: With diverse state boards, languages, and educational backgrounds across India, CTET provides a common benchmark for teacher eligibility for classes I–VIII. This ensures a uniform minimum standard for pedagogical training and subject knowledge.
  • Quality Assurance: By testing pedagogy (child development, teaching methodology), language ability, subject knowledge and mental agility, CTET helps filter candidates who are academically competent and understand teaching fundamentals — contributing to better quality education in the long run.
  • Wide Recognition: Since many central (and state) government schools — and even private schools — accept CTET, clearing it widens the opportunities for candidates across regions, boards, and school types.
  • Flexible & Lifetime Validity: One-time qualification with lifetime validity allows aspirants to attempt the exam when they are ready and apply for recruitment whenever suitable vacancies arrive.
  • Encourages Teacher Education: Through required qualifications (D.El.Ed, B.Ed, etc.), CTET pushes aspiring teachers to obtain formal teacher-training before they start teaching, enhancing professionalism and credibility in the teaching profession.

Common Queries & Clarifications (FAQs)

Q: Is there any age limit for CTET 2026?
A: No. There is no upper or lower age limit. Candidates of any age can apply.

Q: Can I apply for both Paper I and Paper II together?
A: Yes — if you satisfy the eligibility criteria for both papers, you may apply for both. This helps if you want to keep options open for both primary and upper-primary teaching.

Q: Is there any negative marking in CTET 2026?
A: No. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers. Each correct answer awards +1 mark.

Q: What is the minimum qualifying mark for CTET pass?
A: Generally, 60% (i.e. 90 out of 150) for general category candidates. There is relaxation for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) as per government norms — often about 5%.

Q: Does CTET guarantee a teaching job?
A: No — CTET is only an eligibility/certification exam. Actual appointment depends on recruiting agencies, school vacancies, and additional selection criteria (interview, document verification, etc.).

Q: Is CTET valid for lifetime?

Conclusion

With the release of the CTET February 2026 notification on 27 November 2025, the registration window is now live — offering a new opportunity for aspirants across India who wish to pursue a teaching career in primary or upper-primary levels. This is a critical step for many future teachers: CTET certification not only validates their eligibility but also paves the way for potential employment in central government schools and other institutions that recognize CTET.

However, while CTET is a key qualification, it is not a guarantee of job — success depends on thorough preparation, meeting eligibility criteria, strategic application, and subsequent recruitment processes. Aspiring candidates are advised to carefully read the information bulletin, verify their eligibility, prepare systematically, and apply early.
